Temporary Residence Permit in Poland for USA citizen--retired?? Do I qualify??

Hi, my grandmother is from poland and I recently reconnected with lots of distant relatives who are Polish. I am retired, and want to live in Poland for a year or two to do ancestry research, get to know my extended family, and take some language classes to develop fluency so I can eventually apply for citizenship. I have a pension, and my husband (EU citizen) will be staying in the USA to work. Finances and health insurance won't be a problem. Do I qualify for a temporary residence permit? I don't want to sign a lease and fly there until I'm certain I would qualify to stay for the full year. Thanks for your help.

Go to the Polish consulate and ask for extended stay permit for the reasons you mentioned above. Most likely they will give you a years permission to stay in Poland if you can prove your financials.
