Can't edit my post but would like to add although you do not need PESEL to buy the ZUS insurance, you certainly need it to make use of the health care NFZ.

I am just checking the ZUS site because it was there I read that PESEL to buy cover is not a necessity.

@ JollyRomek
"PESEL automatically.

They don't issue the PESEL automatically in every city or region, that's for sure. There seems to be some variation between administrative centres."

I must apologise as have read post 5 and the way you registered is correct if you have a Job, but if you don't and are looking for work or to start a business and need PESEL all you have to do is register for over three months. The point is PESEL will be issued automatically by Urzad Gminy/miasto after registering your permanent address, Which yours was or are you saying you had to fill an application for it?

So advice to OP or anybody else needing a PESEL is to register yourself first with Urzad Gminy/Miasto for a period of longer than three months and it will be issued automatically

No they do not issue it automatically. A person needs to go to the city building and show their rental contract and passport and blue card (or equivalent) and then the PESEL is posted to the registered address. There is no automatic PESEL issue here, I don't know about where you are. I repeat, no automatic PESEL issue here :)

(unless they recently changed procedures)

Never once have I needed to give my PESEL number.

Do you have a karta pobytu? If yes, you have to have a Pesel. If not, how do you get by without any of these?

Anyway, I don't understand your reluctance to have one. First thing I did in Poland was to get a meldunek and a pesel. And when I started to work, a NIP as well.

also to pay ZUS you do not need a PESEL (NIP)

I am going every month to our local ZUS office to have my declaration DRA printed and stamped, and for sure each time they ask for my NIP.

How to get PESEL: info request

Hi all,
I live in Wroclaw and I'm trying to understand the right procedure to get the PESEL.

In a previous POST #% in this TOPIC, I found this guide (thanks to user JollyRomek)

polishforums.com/law/pesel-citizen-working-company-krakow-73239/#msg1464032

Ok, most of this seems clear...except:

-- Applications forms, Statement specifying your arrival in Poland, Statement indicating that your understand your rights and duties of registration : what documents are these? Where can I find them?

-- "zaswiadczenie o zarejestrowanie pobytu obywatela unii europejskiej" is the "blue card"?

-- when I will go to town hall (for the second "step"), do I really need my landlord? Can I simply show document of my lease?

Can someone "help"me?
Thank you

I live in Wroclaw and I'm trying to understand the right procedure to get the PESEL.

I got mine after registering my place of residence few years ago. I remember never requesting or applying for it but just a week ago my employer told my Ukrainian colleague that she can only get NIP and not PESEL. According to our employer, the law has been changed quite recently. If you live in Wroclaw then you can go to the Urząd for clarifications.

So, are you saying that, after this new law, we can get only NIP? Are you sure?

Do I need a PESEL number for tax return in Poland?

Cześć!

I am a EU citizen who recently moved to Poland.

I registered my stay in one Foreigners office, and I thought that would be enough.

However, one non-polish coworker told me I might need my PESEL number for tax return.

Would I need a PESEL number for tax return?

Thank you in advance.

From which EU country do you hail? I ask because different countries might have different requirements, even within the EU, I'm no longer certain.

Spain may or may not require PESEL, being as it's also an EU country. Try inquiring at your local consulate. Learning the language too will be of immeasurable help, as most Poles are far less conversant in English than is the case nowadays in Spain, I'm sure:-)

If you will be paying taxes in Poland, you need PESEL or NIP.
