EU citizen - Register in Poland - Amount of a bank account

Hello everybody,

I will move to Wroclaw with my boyfriend because he found a job there (at least two years). I am an EU citizen teleworker (work at home) and I want to know how much money do I need to have on a bank account to register in Poland. Also, the amount of money has to be on PLN only (my salary is in euros)? The Voivodeship Office needs my employment contract (translated) and a bank account with enough money. The amount of money it depends on how long I will stay in Poland?

What do you mean by 'register in Poland' - do you mean to receive permanent residency status (karta pobytu)? From what I know, the minimum amount to have in a bank is 2500 PLN.Polish banks surely accept Euros but for official amount it's probably required to determine the amount in Polish Zloty (PLN). Still, they can calculate the amount from Euro to PLN using today's day rate if needed so I doubt you'd have to actually have your bank account in PLN.

@Nathans: permanent residence status is not issued right away in Poland ;). First, it's temporary residence status (same everywhere else).

I have private medical insurance in Poland and my question is about the financial resources. Does anyone have an idea about the amount of money is needed? I believe 2500pln are not enough. On other threads I read something like 10000 PLN but it was for students. Is it the same amount for someone who is not going to study in Poland?

Unless it's changed, there's no minimum amount and in any case the OP has the right to live in Poland without any conditions.


You don't need to register at all if you're an EU citizen - they can't force you, nor can they make you leave.


Makes no difference - if you want to actually register, you need to show you have a job, but as I say, registration is entirely unnecessary unless you want to vote or apply for credit within Poland.

From what I know, the requirement is slightly different - there is no minimum amount, but you have to be able to support yourself without using public funding. In practice, it seems that they apply the same rules to EU citizens as non-EU citizens in terms of disposable income.


There is still theoretically a requirement to do so, but there are no punishments for not doing so. Having said that, you can't obtain a Polish driving licence without being registered for instance.

I needed to give a photo copy of my Credit Card, not a statement just the actual card front and back, then a photocopy of my EU101 Health Insurance card.

Then I got my 3 month residence permit.

When I got my address I was then able to get a 5 year Temporary residence and PESEL Number.
