Drive across the border?

You should register and insure it in Poland once your German insurance runs out. I don't know how expensive insurance is in Germany, but it will probably be cheaper in Poland.

Actually, you should check if your insurance is valid outside of Germany or if you have to pay extra or tell your insurer that you're taking your car abroad. You don't want to have an accident in Poland and find out that your insure won't cover you. Tell your German insurer, and register and insure the car in Poland if you need to.

Alan1, I assume you and your spouse are going to settle in Poland, in this case you want to naturalize your car(s) too.

It is relatively easy within EU, and if all is done right, you don't have to pay any taxes, but you do have to pay some fees.

Tax you save is 3.5% of car value for <2L engine and 18.x% for >2L engine.
However you cannot sell the car for 1 year (?) when here.
There may be some limitations, e.g. car cannot be brand new.

There are companies who can help you here in Poland, my weekly commute to gf's parents' passes one, so they gotta be rather common.

If you are going to do all the paperwork yourself, it's 3 offices (customs, tax, communications) and possibly some document translation.

In an ideal case the documents you need to drive and sell the car in Germany should be all you need to register your car in Poland, thanks EU.

I believe there is certain time limit within which you have to start the procedure, 1 mo? 3 mo? or something like that.

I'll post more if I find the right links.

Also, I heard that there company's that make this kind of business and take of everything but I havent found any...Does anyone know such a company?

hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

sorry it's because of all the Jimmy Savile jokes that have been flying around......

Regarding buying the car you will have German plates and you have to go to the correct registration office in Poland Urzad Celny, pay money, 7% or so of the value of the car. Therefore is for example you pay 1000 Euro and pay 7% off that to the Urzad Celny. Now if for example the seller were to write a receipt for X whilst the true cost was higher at Y you would pay less registration fee. Obviously this is illegal, as obvious it would me exchanging money off the books and writing a false receipt, which means criminal collusion as it would benefit both parties for tax and import reasons, so very naughty. ;)
