Moving back to Krakow: PESEL, bank account, passport, TEFL, work, accommodation

I'm moving back to Krakow in 6 months and just need to check I'm covering all the bases and putting everything in place before I go.

The last time I lived in Krakow I had a Polish girlfriend, so she did a lot of the work for me as I speak limited Polish.

I have a PESEL, a Polish bank account and (I think) I have work sorted out with the old language school I used to work for. However I need to sort out a place to live and I don't have the aid of a Polish person to stop me getting stung as a foreigner.

Any ideas where I can find a room or bedsit to rent which isn't a dump or full of damp and mould?

Also, have I missed anything?

PESEL - yes
Bank account -yes
passport - yes
TEFL - yes
Work - Yes (I think)
Accommodation - no

Also, any good expat groups? initially need a social life until I get established again.

I just learnt that foreigners can/have to have PESEL in Poland. Very interesting.

Yes you need a PESEL to work legally. I was fortunate to have a polish girlfriend who sorted it out for me as the place you get it is in the middle of some random estate not in the centre, then you have to find a tiny office and nobody spoke English.

Although, once you get it, it's done... I even got a polish tax return last year...lol..

Unfortunately, no Polish girlfriend this time, so learning as much Polish as I can (For the bureaucracy) and trying to get as much as I can sorted out before I go back.

Any advice on accommodation?

Of course we do, I had mine 5 years ago.

I think you are making a mountain out of a molehill.

You do not need an army of translators or a lot of advanced planning to find a room.

Why don't you hire a bilingual English- Polish student to help you? There are thousands of them in Krakow .
