News / Amnesty to Illegal immigrants in Poland [102]

Illegal immigrants won't be welcomed by the people here so I don't get what Tusk thought he was playing at. The man needs to go. He thinks the Euro is in the best interests of Poles and now this. He needs to listen to what his people are telling him.

Law / I need to stay here in Poland to see my child. [18]

Divorces are not that easy to get (irretrievable breakdown and all that). My best advice is, get a Polish friend to represent you, otherwise you don't stand much chance. Then propose mediation and state that the welfare of the child is paramount. Your wife and yourself obviously are important but it is the upbringing of the child that is the most important. Sorry but getting pregnant and then divorcing is shallow (I don't know the full story but in principle) so, together with your trusted Polish friend, seek out a mediation service. I've been a mediation translator and they favour the Polish person due to their ability to twist and squirm. I levelled the playing field and didn't allow it. Try that, I hope it works!!

No, just not dour faces with no enterprise in them.

They are your Slavic brothers and no amount of nationalistic gutrot will change that.

Life / You are Polish if... [433]

Well, you wouldn't though, would you? You have a completely different perception than others.

Yeah, they serve a very useful purpose ;) ;)

Slavic brothers, yes.

By some I meant just that. Some younger folk, for example. Here where I am, old folk walk the streets as if WWIII is set to decimate the place tomorrow. That's not the kind of people that inspire.

Life / Are there many crypto-Jews in Poland? [67]

Jews are nomadic by nature. I Get Around by The Beach Boys should be their theme tune. There are such people but not readily visible. Look within the ranks of PO or amongst the supporters of Widzew Lódź.

Pawian is a crypto-Jew ;)

Language / Etymology of Dupa [11]

Ta, dupa ;)

Is dupa an offshoot of pupa or quite separate?

Language / Etymology of Dupa [11]

I think you may well be right, Magda. Sanskrit for hole? Hmm...kha? How does that help?

The sound is different too. The Scots word is more like dowp whereas dupa is more like duped.

Language / Why is there no Polish word for Tacky? No, really, why? [18]

What's the difference between trite and tacky for you, Magda?

Morrissey once sang, "love at first sight may sound trite, but it's true you know". Trite is quite similar to tacky there. In the sense of rubbish, I mean.

Love / Problem with my Polish boyfriend [74]

Don't beat yourself up for the bad ways of others. Anyway, it's not for sure that he is cheating. Have some wine and forget about him.

It would also test out the tolerance concept. I think most Poles wouldn't even bat an eyelid when they found out they were sitting next to a standard Ukrainian or Belarussian in a bar or restaurant. There is really no threat there. Screaming mujihadeen may be a different matter ;) ;)

Harry, by here I meant Gliwice :) Some more Slavic faces with other perspectives would be welcomed by myself. Beyond Slavic too, of course.

If it leads to slightly more diversity, then I'm for it. Personally, I'd like to meet more Ukrainians and Belarussians here. Whilst Poland fits the homogeneity model well, I'd still like to see some more foreign faces

Love / Problem with my Polish boyfriend [74]

I don't mean to be overly suggestive here, drew, but have you tried more intimate texts? It's private, I know, so the response is purely at your own discretion as privacy should be respected. However, the logic is that guys (and girls too) tend to respond to more erotic messages. We are all adults here so I feel that you might just grab his attention with a somewhat spicier text (well, 14-year olds can type here but....). Just a thought!

Life / Importance of Religion in Poland [187]

I think it's often done out of a sense of duty and conscience cleansing. That's what I think.
