UK, Ireland / I have concerns over the British immigration policy so I wrote to my MP. [126]

Question shall we repatriate all non English staff in the NHS, let us jolly Old Brits have our NHS back and run it as a proud British institution, Like Rover, or Northern Rock...

We are currently entering a period of recession and when the immigrant workers stop wanting to work in the UK, then my friend we will know that the Boat is sunk.

Life / Fashion and Style in Poland [174]

The first things i look at when I meet people is their eyes, their posture, shoes and their watch. You can tell alot about a person by their shoes and watch.

Work / Cost of Living, Average Salaries and Job sites in Poland [263]

Diesel 600zl pcm
Phone landline, mobiles and internet 400zl
Food 1200zl pcm
bills (water and electr) 300zl
Going out, fun 1200zl pcm

So thats 3700zl pcm NOT INCLUDING RENT OR MORGAGE.

We live in the Tri-city area, our lives are comfortable but not excessive.

Our combined income is between 7,000zl to 9,000zl a month after tax.

Wages do not match the cost of living here.

I would agree that is a second world country. But in no way Third World.
The following article seems well informed and does highlight the housing issue in Poland.

Work / Salary expectations in Poland [373]

When i registered in my local town hall, the woman at the desk asked me if I had a visa in my passport. we kindly reminded the woman that the UK was in Europe as is Poland and therefore a Visa wasn't needed. After double checking this revelation with here colleagues she agreed i didn't need a Visa.!!!!!!!!!!

Work / Salary expectations in Poland [373]

a Greek can earn more than 1000 euros per month as a waiter in the Greek islands.

Having been on holiday in Greece, I'm sure this is a minimum. However it is seasonal work.

I think instead of concerning yourself straight away with how much you get paid perhaps researching the cost of living would be a better way of calculating if what they offer you is enough for you to maintain your life style. The other factors such as language, culture and weather are all important. Its not just about the money. You will be adopting a different way of living. Good luck.

(Adim, by the way have you all lost your senses of humour or is it just collective OCD)

Work / Have been offered a job in Warsaw - should I move to Poland?? [48]

GO GO GO. Do it dude, no dout if you are being taken by an IT company they'll help with your relocation. It will be fun. Why not? If it all goes wrong, it wil be a lesson learnt. plus I'm sure if you are paid a decent wage your standard of living will undoubtably rise.

News / The New World Order and Poland's place [50]

H.G.Wells1939

By the way this guy also wrote about Alien invading.

The irony of conspiracies is that they usually create more speculation rather than expose real truths. I don't deny that some of these comments aren't far off the mark, however neither are they absolute fact.

Love / The age of consent in Poland is only 15 [147]

Crikey, even bringing up this thread seams to show an unhealthy interest in young girls noimmi

quite....

Seriously Noimmigration, you are extremely offensive.
Have you nothing better to do than rant and rave against Polish people, do you feel this way towards other ethnic minorities in the UK?

Anyone would think you had been properly ****** over by a Polish person and this is you frustrated revenge.

UK, Ireland / Polish immigration in UK [491]

Funny its all woe is me in the UK. But perhaps we ought to see the bigger picture. Maybe we in woeful down trodden England should spare a thought for all the Indian and Chinese kids who working 18 hours a day making our clothes. Or the Iraqi's, African's and other poor blighters that are constantly erradicated so we can lay pipelines and enjoy our petrol and oil driven society. Most people have lost perspective.

Travel / Starbucks in Poland? [149]

Maybe I could shed some light on why in Starbucks seems to be everywhere in the Uk and have as yet not overrun Poland. When the coffee scene took off in the Uk Starbucks operated a policy of "clustering". What this means is that they placed lots of Starbucks in one area so as to drive out the competition. If I remember correctly there is a book by a Canadian academic called "No Logo" and this book illustrates exactly how Starbucks operates. The reason I'm using the Uk as my example is I've not been to th States though I assume it is the same there.

I would have thought Starbucks would appeal to the young and well of, thus only the major cities would be able to support such an establishment.

My first coffee experience was appalling my girlfriend was shopping in our local town, it was winter and I was freezing so I headed to the only establishment which I could see served coffee. The coffee was served boiling hot in a glass, with no handle. The result was I couldn't even pick up the damn cup for about 10 minutes. When eventually I did the experienc was less than pleasant especially since the coffee grains remained in the glass. When I met up wit my girlfriend and related the experience, she couldn't stop laughing as I had been sitting in the equivelant of a soup-kitchen for the very poor and homeless. duh!!!
