News / Don't let Poland become like my country, France. [630]

I've been living in Poland for 3 months now.
For the first time of my life I feel like living in Europe.

I come from Paris and this city, as beautiful as it is, became a Hotel. But not a luxurious one, if you know what I mean.

I still love my country but I am very sad how it became ... and it's getting worse, year after year.

Polish people can be proud.
If you wave a french flag in France, some people will call you nationalist or patriot. How sad.
Long live to Poland and its people and I hope the country will still remain strong.

Travel / Wieliczka Salt Mine Receiving Intense Interest This Year: 1 Million Visitors! [6]

Merged: Does anyone know which Chopin song is played during the visit to Wieliszka salt mines?

Hello everybody,

I visited the mine salt near Krakow a few weeks ago. It was a great experience and I highly recommend it.

During the visit, we entered a dark cave with water and large stairs on the right side. Then, some lights appeared et a Chopin's song was played for a couple of minutes.

I've been looking for this one on internet but I cannot find the title of this song. I remember it was amazing and I'd love to hear it again!

So, if anyone has any clue, I'd thank you very much !

Life / How can I change 100 PLN bank notes for smaller currency? [17]

Hello everybody,

I've been through an issue since I've been living in Poland.

Basically, when I exchange euros for some zlotys, they always give 100 PLN bank notes. When I want to buy something, they always refuse my 100 bank notes, arguing that they do not have the change. Even in some big supermarkets, like Carrefour, they sometimes prefer that I give small amounts.

I tried to ask people of Kantor to give me small bank notes but they do not want. Only 100 PLN bank notes.

My question is : How to break your 100 PLN notes without problems/rip-off ?

Thank you very much

Travel / Are there any travel agencies in Poland that offer Disneyland Paris packages? [10]

I live in Paris, I will give you my personal thoughts.

Firstly, 5 days at Disneyland is way too much. I would say, 2 days is enough to do the main attractions - even twice - and have a global overview of the park. After 2 days, you will feel bored to be at the same place again and again.

To reach Disneyland, it's quite easy actually. You have what we call "RER" - express suburban trains - that allows you to reach the park from anywhere in Paris.

If I were you, I would stay in the West of Paris - not in Paris, it's very expensive - but in a nice city like Vincennes for example. In this city, you have RER station that allows you to go to Disneyland and also a subway stations to reach the centre in Paris in 15 minutes. Consequently, you will have the opportunity to go to Disneyland for two days and then spend the rest of your time sightseeing in Paris.

For the weather, it could be anything. You can have snow, sunny days, rainy days, cloudy days ... it really depends. I would say it's quite cold - at least for me - from 5 degrees during the day and 0 or -5 degrees in the morning. Sometimes you have days where temperatures can drop until minus 10. But it would last a couple of days only.

Regarding the cost, it depends on your standard.

Transportation flights : 100€ x 3 with a low cost company such as easyjet. No luggages, be careful.
Hotel : between 50€ and 100€ per day for a standard hotel outside Paris x 5
Transportation : RER/Subway tickets : 35€ x 3 for one week unlimited utilization
Food : Really depends

Life / What type of clothing is suitable for winter in Poland? [5]

Hello everybody,

I will be soon be relocated to Krakow, and I was wondering what kind of clothes to bring to survive the polish winter :)

I'm from France, during our winter temperatures goes somewhere between 5 and -5 degrees. Sometimes we have a couple of days reaching -10 degrees in the morning but it's very rare.

In your opinion is it more interesting to buy warm clothes such as wool socks for example in Poland or can I use the same as in France ?

How do polish people wear basically ?

Also, could you give a hint of the climate from November to March in Krakow, please.

Thank you for your time

Life / Which bank in Poland should I join for basic services? [14]

Where are you going to live?

Krakow

I'm not looking especially for a french bank actually.

To be honest, I would prefer to have an account in a bank from Germany, Poland or the Netherlands for example.

If you have faith in ratings, here is a rating agency's list of banks and their assessed rating:-

Very interesting links actually.

It gives a global overview, we can see that Millenium and Alior are pretty badly rated.
In the other hand, Pekao and ING sounds nice.

Life / Which bank in Poland should I join for basic services? [14]

Hello,

Thank you for your answers.

My bank at home is LcL.

Is BNP a good bank in Poland ? I mean, I don't have much interest in customer service, but mostly about the fees you have to pay to get a card and to manage your account online.

I will check Millenium even if I've never heard about it in the past.

I was thinking of ING or Deutsche bank because they are solid, but I don't know what they offer actually.

Life / Which bank in Poland should I join for basic services? [14]

Hello everybody,

I will start a new job in Poland in a couple of weeks and I would like to open a bank account in Poland.

I am an EU citizen.

Basically, I'd just need a credit card to withdraw money and pay.

Also, an internet management of my account.

No transfer needed between my bank at home and the one in Poland.

Do you have any information ?

Thank you very much :)

Travel / How would you describe Krakow ? [8]

Basically, you are telling me that Krakow is a nice city worth a visit for one week or so, but can be boring for a long stay ?

I enjoyed Warsaw, it's a big city, and many things to do. Also, I found out, maybe it was just a feeling, that the population was not really young, meaning that the students were not the vast majority of people hanging out.

I'm in my early 30's and I don't go to a night clubs a lot. Moreover I prefer to meet people of my age than young ones.

As you told me Krakow is mostly a student city, I'm wondering How I'll feel over there if I'm surrounded by drunk students in converse.

Travel / How would you describe Krakow ? [8]

Hello everybody,

I will be in krakow at the end of September for some job interviews.
I was in Warsaw in August for tourism and I loved the city and the people.

I would like to know for people who has been living in Krakow for a couple of years or born here, how would you describe Krakow in a few words ?

I'm from Paris and I love history and architectural things, and it seems that Krakow has a lot to offer.

In the other hand, my polish friends in Paris told me when I went to Poland on August, to not stay too long in Warsaw and hit Krakow instead. At the end of the day, I stayed in Warsaw because I liked a lot this city, even if many people described it as "ugly". This city has a soul and something special.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to reading your thoughts about Krakow!

Thank you
