Life / Could Poland become an immigrant country? [42]

Poland has always been an immigrant country. Poland was the first multicultural country. It's only been just Polish for the last 50 years - when Stalin kicked out/killed all the foreigners.

It is inevitable that immigrants will come to Poland. Already happening. It will help Poland's economy - like it helped UK economy.

Western Europe is saturated and stagnant.

Does anybody familiar with Poland & the UK know what percentage of Poles are coming back to Poland?

Not sure of general figure but I had about 8 Polish friends here in UK and they have all returned to Poland for better paying jobs.

USA, Canada / American family moving to Poland - looking for advice! [44]

Basically, it is not a simple decision, you need to find what works for you.

Anna77 - it should never become more complicated than that.

To simplify things - I guess your experience will be quite similar to what I imagine happened in England. In Poland - all your important transactions will probably be in English - as most people speak/understand it

(unless you want to buy a banana on a common local fruit stall - in which case you say "ba-na-na" ;)

Warsaw is a very interesting place for different reasons. There is only one way you will find out :)

Love / Wedding in Poland, Bydgoszcz Ideas! [6]

What! No Meat?! You crazy? Split the table. Half meat - Half veg.
All the Polish weddings I've been to were serious experiences. Wodka came out the taps. Pigs on spits. People partied as if there was no tomorrow (mostly the priest). Good traditional music

with frantic accordions and whooping yeehas. They normally lasted 3 days - with 2 days recovery. For 5K you can deliver good. Get good musicians! Go to a Polish wedding first and take notes

before you pass out and wake up in morning in neighbours greenhouse.

USA, Canada / American family moving to Poland - looking for advice! [44]

You will get a nice 3 bed apartment for USD 2,000 per month.

would the prospect of buying a place - with mortgage - and selling afterwards (with maybe small profit) be insane?

Travel / Poland Baltic Sea holiday [30]

I'd recommend giving Leba a very wide swerve: the place is utterly packed and also famed as the summer resort of choice for the Polish mafia.

Leba is not packed - but there are anough people to create an 'atmosphere'. Who really wants a deserted beach/town? Mafia? Is that what your insider tipped you off about last time he

clashed with their shorts and mulit-coloured flip-flops?

Travel / Poland Baltic Sea holiday [30]

Fly to Gdansk - hire car from airport - ask them if they can arrange a baby seat - they have them in Poland :) Stop off in Sopot - wonderful main street and beach. Gdynia also worth a pit stop. Nice beach there and lots of shops. Hotels not sure about. The hire car people usually know all about that or call the local information centre.

Drive to LEBA - great little town with loads of guest houses and great beach - in fact the beaches are all great all the way along the coast - white sand with a line of trees. I think mosquetos turn up in late July/August. Weather wise - when I was there - late July early August it was HOT - approx 35C every day for 11 days - but generally it will probably be warm and sunny. And yes - it will also rain believe it or not! The rain may fall but the sun will come out again. You will be unlucky to run into a long period of rain. Great fresh fish to eat in many restaurants.

There are also lots of Polish travel agencies in UK - try google

History / Memos show US hushed up Soviet crime against Poland [97]

Nothing at all, but it might make people realise that America is not the ally that certain quarters believe she is.

depends on what the deal is at the time - people change

History / Polish relation about Russians, Ukrainians? [281]

VLAD123 "And didn`t Russian saved Poles from total distruction? For example: they saved them from full scale Tataro-Mongol invasion, they saved them from Swedes (Poland was devastated by Swedes), they saved them from German Nazies. I guess you know that Nizies planned to eliminate 80-85 % of Poles and rest of them either sterilize or send in Siberia?"

The Mongols defeated Russia and occupied Moscow. The Mongol army continued into Poland and were eventually stopped by Polish knights. Ghengis Khan also died and the Mongols settled in the Tartar Mountains - and later fought with the Poles/Lithuanians to defeat the Teutonic Knights. Ghengis Khan said of the Polish troops - you can cut them down like grass in a field - but drop your guard for one minute and the grass will grow around your ankles and strangle you. Sweden devastated much of Poland but the Poles held out in the southern town of Zamosc. The Swedes killed the Polish Princess and took the crown jewels back to Sweden where they still are. No sign of any Russians. Russia waited for Nazis to weaken Poland before they INVADED on the 17th September. NOT helped. NOT saved. But invaded. they executed many on the spot and deported 700,000 to Siberia - including my Grandfather. In the Gulag he watched most of his friends starve to death. Russia ONLY released the Poles because they were stupid enough to deal with Hitler who invaded Russia. Russia denied aerial support for the Wasraw uprising. Waited on the left bank of the Vistula until the Germans slaughtered the Poles in Warsaw. After the war Russia denied Poland freedom to move, talk, print, speak. Most young men were turned into alcoholics, brainwashed, families destroyed, shot, deported. Russia DID NOT rescue Poland from the Nazis. USA supplies 40 MILLION tonnes of equipment to Russia to keep it alive so it could attack Germans. Poland helped allies by giving the Anigma code - fighting battle of Britain (12% kills) fighting all over - including with Red army to take Berlin. Russia did NO FAVOURS to Poland WHATSOEVER. The sooner you realise that the better. Then we can go for a pint.
