History / Did British public protest against the sell out of Poland to the Soviets? [286]

I understand why Polish people feel betrayed and I'm not getting into all that about treaties ect but what I don't understand is why only anti-British. If I was Polish I would be Anti-French who surrendered against the Germans or anti-Italian who fought with the Germans. It's these countries who prolonged the war, weakened the American and British armies and strengthened Russia's hand. Why is there no Anti-French & Italian feelings?

Real Estate / Credit secured against the land in Poland I wish to purchase. [5]

Good Morning,

It's a lovely sunny morning here is Piaseczno, I hope it is there where you are too.

I have a question, I want to by some land in Wilcza Gora, I have seen the land and I'm going to gmina Lesznowola to get the plot number then Gmina Piaseczno to get the land registry (equivalent) information today, but before I make an offer I want to find out if there is any credit secured against the land, is there any way of doing this?

Thanks,

Work / Cost of Living, Average Salaries and Job sites in Poland [263]

@Pushbike

A public school or Esl? That seems really quite low for Warsaw, my sister-in-law is a public school teacher and she earns 5,000 Zloty netto and I'm an ESL teacher and I earn between 250-400 Zlotty per day, depending on how many lessons. Are you newly qualified?

Regards

UK, Ireland / Poles in England / English in Poland crime [25]

I was just wondering, with the influx of Poles to the UK and the English to Poland. What kind of co-operation does the UK police have with the Polish police?

If someone commits a crime in the UK and returns to Poland. Does the UK police work with the Polish police to bring them to justice or will it be a case of, can't be bothered?

I think murder will be a no brainer. But in terms of theft, fraud, driving offenses ect.

It's just I know someone who has done a runner back to Poland for an offense, that's in my eyes minor, but he is scared that the police is coming for him.

Life / Internet access, speeds and companies in Poland. [8]

Hey just a quick question or 2. Who is your ISP and why? What kind of speeds can I expect? And if I wanted too can I set up Mobile satellite access? Or do authorities take a negative view of these.

"oh hi Pauline, what you doing tonight?"

" I don't know I'm thinking about going out a getting myself raped." " it's £20,000, don't you know?"

Real Estate / Best Mortgage Lender in Poland? [25]

Amen to this! Before we signed our credit agreement, we had to get the contract corrected 3 times before we signed. The bank apparently made a mistake. Yer right!!!

A few points.

1. Look at the repayment schedule. They will give you a simulation for 30 years but in the contract it can say anything. Ours was 46 years!

2. Taking insurance is mandatory, but you don't have to take the one with the bank. They wanted to add 28,000 PLN to our mortgage for the insurance.

3. If you take a mortgage not in PLN check that there is no clause saying that currency will defult to PLN in 2 years! Ours was in € and there was a clause saying it would automatically default to PLN after 2 years.

This was all with a top name high street bank. Just assume that everyone is out to rip you off. And you won't go wrong!!! :)

Law / What's the best way to transfer £20,000 into PLN [31]

Oh great, now I don't know what to do! :( this is so frustrating! It's my money. I should be able to do with it whatever I please.

I've been checking a FX company who supposedly charge a flat rate and as being I want to transfer £20,000 they gave me a quote of 1:4.72 which I know is great. But I'm worried if there is any secret charges or charges by the receiving bank.

News / HIV infected Nigerian has bitten bus ticket's controler in Cracow! [56]

2/3 days still wouldn't give an accurate result. the quickest accurate HIV test can be done is 2/3weeks. There is a rapid test (results in 30 min) but this is an antibody test, so the results or reliability of the test is very poor. The most likely scenario is, they will have a rapid test but will have to wait up to 3 months for the official yes or no.

The Nigerian man, as should anyone who deliberately tries to infects someone, be put on trial for attempted murder!

Law / What's the best way to transfer £20,000 into PLN [31]

Also, I know I can use MasterCard and Visa in Poland. But if the bank blocks my card, which they probably will, (Because i plan on spending a few 000's buying stuff for the new appartment). I'm pretty screwed.

It's crazy that I can't take my money, however I want too.

Life / Moving to Poland - what is the most important thing I need to do, once I'm in Poland? [51]

Well, I will study an intensive CELTA in September. So unfortunately will be unable to move immediately. I think my experience may help my cause though? I'm 34, I have an MBA from Cardiff Uni, 13 years managerial experience, (mostley retail) lots of experience in presentations and in training classes.

As for my girlfriend, her sister is a public school teacher (same school for 9 years) which I think means she can't be fired? Or something like that. And she assures my girlfriend a job in her school. I thought about translating because. There is only 1 in Mysiadło and she is constantly busy. We were waiting 4/5 days for a 1/2 page document and she said that she just has so much work. If not translating, I was thinking about a PRET A MANGER type business in Warsaw.

Life / Moving to Poland - what is the most important thing I need to do, once I'm in Poland? [51]

Hey,

This is not a thread asking if I should or should'nt move to Poland. because I've already brought a flat in Mysiadlo. :)

Both me and my girlfiend (and soon Son) will be moving to Poland to start new lifes. we have purchased a great little 2 room appartment 56 sq metres or so. and the plan is we will both teach, me as a native English speaker in a private School and her in a public school (her sister will apparently help with this)

My questions are around. what is the most important thing I need to do, once I'm in Poland? with regards to registering with the local authorities ect. and is CELTA or TESOL essential to teach in Poland?

Many Thanks

Chris
