Love / I'm a black African man and can't cope with my Polish mother in law [34]

What a lovely bunch of people. He is having a hard time with something and you mock him and insult him. This forum is pathetic. There is zero moderation and the place is run by the convicts. A bunch of racist and childish BS seems to be what entertains most of you. Ironside you can shove your tough guy nonsense up your arse.

Negra there are meddling mother in laws all over and some cultures have more close and involved families than others. Poland is one of them so if you get a meddling mother in law from a closer culture I can see how it could be horrible.

Talk to you wife...work together with her as the team you are supposed to be. She should stand with you and not let her mother control her and her family.

Love / Love without chemistry? (Asian in love with a Polish woman) [195]

Answering you will accomplish nothing. You are just searching for more to try and twist or throw back at me. In fact at this point I can't win at all because if I do not reply you will just make something up assuming what that means. You have already made a decision about what you believe is right and are not interested in points of view...only validation.

Tis the internet...nothing changes.

Figure it out...or don't. It doesn't matter to me beyond that fact I felt like posting my opinion.

Carry on.

I should have known better. Get on with your all knowing selves then. Really. It makes no difference to me. I was just commenting because I saw so much drivel that I know from experience is not realistic. But like all things with humans we normally need to learn it first hand. Going back and forth here won't help anyone and will just lead to more nonsense. You are free to think and act however you like. Beauty of choice.

Best of luck.

Love / Love without chemistry? (Asian in love with a Polish woman) [195]

I can base my opinion of them by their repeated stressing of what they "need" and "want". It's easy. She has clearly pointed out she is someone with unrealistic notions of what love is and you have as well.

Good try with the turning it on me thing. The only thing I am aggravated about when it comes to young people is how they never listen and think they know everything.

I am just giving my view and experience and am not going to play your internet games dtaylor. You can take it or leave it but the attempt to try and discredit my opinion buy claiming I have some related "issue" that makes my view wrong is silly and childish.

You sound like a very naive young person with a very naive young view of life. Sex is not as important as you think it is in your young horny years. The reason people cheat is because they are selfish ******** who cannot honor a promise. Don't you dare blame it on lack of them getting their sexual fill....that is selfish nonsense.

Nobody is forcing you to do anything. YOU are the one setting your expectations and setting them on unrealistic and fairy tale notions as well. Go ahead...keep looking...and die old and alone. It is 100% your choice. Nobody is making you do either.

In any case best of luck to you...you are going to need it with your view of things.

You will never find what you are looking for young lass if you expect everlasting "spark". That is not real life. Ask anyone who has been married happily for 50 years. You DO form relationships with friends and your mate should be your best friend. You seem to put far too much importance on sex if lust is such a big deal to you. You will look back and say "hey that guy was right" some day. I am sure of it.

There are a lot of lonely people at 50 still looking for that "everlasting spark" while wishing they had someone to trust and rely on. Life is not a fairy tale. Besides nobody is forcing any of you to be in a relationship just to be in one. You choose that if it is what you are doing. Be realistic or be unhappy. No matter to me.

Love / Love without chemistry? (Asian in love with a Polish woman) [195]

I will take the word of those who I know who have been together for 30-50 years and have been mostly happy. They know far more than young people on the internet about what true love is.

Sure you cannot force someone who is unwilling but at the same time it requires work from both sides...it is not some magical event like most women and a lot of naive young guys would want it to be. If someone is not interested then leave it be but I really get tried of listening to women moan about lack of romance etc when I see them often doing very little to engender trust and connection. They expect some magic to happen and that is why so many people are unhappy and so many relationships fail.

gg4 I agree with you. People who chase some idea will never be happy. Love is built and grown much like respect and other good ideas. It isn't "at first sight" or other silly childish notions. It takes work and time and is built on the back of trust and respect.

Far too many people mistake selfish lust or pleasure seeking for love.

"Spark" is a romantic notion and fades like all romantic notions. People who chase it will never be happy. True love is not what women's romance novels and movies show it as...true love is being able to trust and depend on someone without reservation. It is putting someone else above all others and as much as possible above yourself. True love is a choice more than a magical thing that happens. You CHOOSE to make this one person your focus and help each other through good and bad times. That is love.

Travel / Why do people say that Poland is so unsafe? [60]

I never had once single moment of danger living in Warsaw for years. Even in the horrible "Praga" that everyone tells new people to avoid. Sure there is some crime and I know one or two people who had their flat broken into and a couple more who had cars stolen but that happens in every city all over the world. Only ONE of my friends ever got into a fight and he put himself in that position by being drunk in the middle of the night around a rowdy crowd. I don't know anyone personally who has been mugged there.

There is very little violent crime in Poland relative to the average worldwide I would say. I lived in the busy part of town and was out often late and never once felt unsafe. Though I did have an old lady kind of freak out thinking I was following them once or twice :) But I was really just going to same way as them and you would think me having shopping bags in both hands would be a clue.

Travel / WHAT TO WEAR END OF JUNE FIRST WEEKS OF JULY IN WARSAW [25]

the polish jeans are not the same as the american ones..

Uh...yeah they are. I lived there for a long time until recently and the jeans are the same...there are even some brands that are sold in both places. I am not sure what the big deal is about jeans and why someone would suggest they make you stand out when half the people on the street in Warsaw are wearing them...especially younger people.

Life / Amazon Kindle in Poland? (updated Kindle 3 3G) [10]

Thanks cailczuk your post was helpful.

Shush...the Sony doesn't have free 3g internet, has slower refresh, lesser battery, and many less books to choose from. So I am pretty sure it is NOT better...but thanks for the reply that has nothing to do with my question of whether the KINDLE internet works in Poland.

Jeans are worn by Poles all over Warsaw. So I hardly agree with the "dead giveaway" comment. But yes it is better to dress nicer since you are doing research and will be meeting various people.

UK, Ireland / The number of Anti-English Poles... [228]

I cannot believe an Emergency Room doctor would refuse to care for you unless you had ZUS...if you actually had an emergency condition...not some cold or flu. Unless you just got someone who was a real *******. I would bet most of them would treat you and work it out later. I dealt with lots of good doctors in Warsaw even within the public system.

Why did you go to a govt hospital? I always used private ones and the prices were not bad. I would only go to a govt hospital when the private doctor I had worked there also and it was cheaper that way. Five days is criminal.

Does anyone use an Amazon Kindle in Poland? According to the service maps the 3G and internet should work fine there. But I am looking for real life info not claims from Amazon.

Thanks

Travel / cheapest air from US to Krakow [13]

It would cost just as much to fly that way as it would to fly with LOT right from Denver. You would fly a partner airline to Chicago and the direct to Warsaw on one ticket.

Travel / cheapest air from US to Krakow [13]

I would like to see this laid out. My gut instinct from flying back and forth a lot says this is not true. Berlin is not much cheaper than right to Warsaw. Plus add about 10-12 more hours on the train after an already long flight depending on which train you take.

In any case I don't believe 50% less.

LOT was always the best deal I found. And they are direct from the US as well. Changing planes in the UK sucks horribly.

Travel / WHAT TO WEAR END OF JUNE FIRST WEEKS OF JULY IN WARSAW [25]

What you said is fine in general but read below...maybe one jacket or sweater for the night if you are cold blooded. Daytime temps are 60s to high 80s F at worst with little if any humidity on normal days (Warsaw has a fluctuating climate so it can be 88F in the sun one day and 60 and raining the next). Adult Poles dress in general nicer than a typical American on the street so business casual or at least something other than ratty jeans and baggy shirts will make you blend in better and engender more respect when dealing with people in your research. But if you are just being a tourist and don't care what people think go as you wish. Umbrellas were my choice for rain as a rain coat was too hot for me in summer.

Money is best taken from an ATM (Bankomat) for the best rate. Call your bank as well and ask them what international ATMs will get you the best fees. For example Bank of America has a partnership with Deutchebank so you get no fees for withdrawing just the exchange rate. Normally you get charged like a 10usd fee plus a local fee etc. That said changing 20-50usd at the airport just to get a taxi etc won't be a bad idea but you will get horrid rates so don't waste a lot there.

News / Polish Policeman shoots down a foreigner in Warsaw [300]

I looked into it and the Polish police do NOT have a policy to shoot to wound first. There was such a thing decades ago but hasn't been in effect for a very long time.

Life / Apple v IBM computers in Poland [37]

That is purely your opinion and nothing more. I know plenty of businesses that use Macs. Your analysis of cost etc is very simplistic and leaves out a lot of factors.

I say people should buy what they wish but I get really tired of people trying to justify their opinion on products as fact.

Nobody is forcing anyone to buy a Mac if you don't want one...but the constant attempts to cut them down is pathetic. You make yourselves feel better about your purchases by trying to rip on people who have made other choices and belittling theirs.

Not everyone who buys a Mac is a fashion snob anymore than everyone buying a PC is a cheap loser who can't afford any better. It's ridiculous the lengths some of you are going through to try and "justify".

News / Komorowski for complex-ridden Poles? [94]

hmm has it ever occurred that these people are smart intelligent people well informed, and it is YOU who has little understanding of Polish politics and have a set agenda?

I hardly think Poles living abroad have as much of a grip on the issues as the locals. You may THINK you do but there is no substitute for living it and no amount of media or gossip from your granny is going to change that reality.

You really have no business voting in a place you don't live anyway...rights or not. Who are you to influence things for people who actually have to be there? You don't have to suffer the impacts of your decision like those living there do. I'd be fine with laws saying that in order to vote you had to be residing in that nation/

It used to be 5 years of marriage and residing in Poland. Has it been changed to 3? I just glanced at the first page of your link and saw 5 years mentioned but not 3.

News / Polish Policeman shoots down a foreigner in Warsaw [300]

People talking about shooting to "wound" have no experience with firearms. I even question this idea that Polish Police have a "shoot to wound" first order because it is extremely impractical. In most all Modern Police departments the firearm is a deadly force tool and you shoot to kill if it comes to that. Trying to shoot someone in the leg is ridiculously impractical and can still kill them by hitting a major artery. This kind of silly idea comes from TV and people who have never touched a gun, not real life.
