Food / Are eggs in Poland refrigerated/not refrigerated? [33]

It made no sense to them that I refrigerated my eggs.

Very strange.I always thought eggs have to be kept in a fridge and I am surprised it is not exactly true.

Also, it blew their minds if I boiled a dozen eggs and then put the hard-boiled eggs in the fridge and ate them over the course of a few days.

Why?People in Poland do that too but mainly during and shortly after Easter.

Then I left for Toruń and eventually got so sick that I spent three days in a hospital.

I got sick (food poisoned) after eating fast food in the US at least 4 times (Wendy's and McDonalds).

USA, Canada / Why do Americans (and Canadians) hate Polish people? [226]

I thought you were against the furniture to be moved when you were in someone else's house.

I don't,when told Polish joke (it happened),I just politely ask them "So you basically saying that I am stupid because I am from Poland?"That's all I am doing. So far every single one apologized to me. Some time ago at work the manager an American born in the US to Polish parents, made a comment about other guy who is from Poland in which he called him "Polack" so I asked him "Do you know that "Polack" is considered ethnic slur"?He said "Oh,I am a Polack too" me "I don't care what you are, "Polack" is ethnic slur and you should not be using it ,specially in a work place".I never heard him saying "Polack" again.I am not affraid to speak up. I had problems renting place from Long&Foster, they were telling me AC doesn't work and this and that but I said "I don't care you can fix it later" because I really needed this place right away.It was still a problem until I said "Look lady it seems to me that you don't want rent it to me because I am a foreigner!" an hour later I was moving in.Speak up,at work talk to manager,if that won't help, talk manager of the manager.Just don't be a coward FFS.

Life / Poland: The land of -isms [63]

it seems that Americans don't criticize you for 'moving their furniture', do they?

Because I don't (anymore). At first I was pointing out to them things I didn't like but their answer usually was "Why don't go home if you don't like it here?".And you know what, they were right! Now when asked I like everything.

He is exactly the kind of person unpleasant stereotypes of Poles are derived from.

I am a very pleasant person but if you came to my home and kept telling me that I need to move my furniture around because you don't like the current setup i would lose my patience after maximum 2 hours and knocked you the **** down then throw out the door.Poland is the home for Poles so don't you tell us how do we need to set up our furniture because you are only a guest.

European homogenous country that needs to progress in order to function better as a future multicultural nation.

As a past multicultural country we have learned that multiculturalism doesn't work. Assimilation yes, multiculturalism no.

Because we live in Poland and can comment on what we see.

You can comment, true, but you are not entitled (and never will be) to be telling us what we need or should do.

you've criticised Poland constantly on here.

I criticize (and will continue doing so) oppressive antiPolish regime which is currently governing Poland but never Poland herself.

Because you and your ilk clearly aren't.

Another one.Morda krótko przybłędo! or out!

if I mention the fact that Poland still needs to progress

What makes you think that you are the right person to tell "Poland" what she needs?Leave it to the Poles and mind your own business.

They were pretending to be some Polish,

They pretend to be Polish all the time but neither of them is.

It was supposed to be a criticism of the attitude of some Poles to Ukrainians coming here to work and doing jobs like cleaning ladies, etc., in their mind.
After the sh1tstorm ensued they were saying "don't shoot the messenger", I guess.

I bet you are "young, educated and from a large city" since you are buying this explanation. It was one of their Polonophobic rants as very few Poles can afford Ukrainian maid.

I do hope this isn't going to be another case of 'That foreigner is criticising my fellow Pole! I must defend my fellow Pole!'.

He is as much Polish as you are Harry. It is not any secret that Kupa Wojewódzki is a Jew.

UK, Ireland / Why can't unemployed Polish people on benefits just leave UK and go home please? [240]

I wouldn't be happy if I was Polish and I knew someone that was english for 20 years and could not speak to them, I'd demand they go home.

Why?I don't care if they don't speak Polish as it's only for their benefit to speak the language of the country they live in.If they don't want to learn, let it be so but they shouldn't complain that they can't get done simpliest things because, surprise very few Poles speak English. One can live in Chicago whole life and get every single thing done without speaking a word of English but I can't imagine myself being miserable outside Polish community.

so they live in the uk and boo our national anthem

Do they? How do you know the ones booing live in the UK?

News / Lech Walesa vs Immigration: Brits humiliated him at London Heathrow Airport [105]

From comments on Gazeta Wyborcza:
author: qurczak111

"A więc wojna!

Nie będzie angol pluł nam w twarz
ni w majtach nam buszował
orężny stanie hufiec nasz
Lech będzie nam wodzował."

I want to share this comment as I find it very funny. It's in Polish but I am sure that PF members who are residents of Poland know Polish.

Translate it please or it will be moved.

So what? He isn't a diplomat so can't refuse the normal procedures.

What do you mean "so what"?Whether you like him or not, (I don't), he is the most recognizable Polish face in the whole world . Can you imagine Nelson Mandela or George Bush having to undergo this "normal procedure"?I can't.My God,if they disrespected even L.W I can only imagine what ordinary Poles have to go thru in this forsaken country full of Polish haters.I will never ever set a foot there.Poland has to protest and those who humiliated Lechu have to be fired from their jobs.

Real Estate / How the Poland property market became a HUGE bubble [35]

2. Do you remember what it was like before the E.U.? The unemployment rate and most importantly for me, there was no real freedom of movement.
The next generation are going to grow up and take the Schengen area for granted, as if it has always been there and personally I think that is brilliant.

I think it was a mistake on the side of Eastern European countries to join EU.We should have kept RWPG even at the cost of some political concessions towards Russia.Fueled by cheap Russian oil and natural resources from Syberia Eastern economies would be booming. It would be interesting to see competition of two economic blocks.

so you are definitely arguing with the wrong person.

I am not arguing Sean.

perhaps you can remember which book you listened to and what valid points it made on the topic?

"Szachinszach" about Reza Pahlavi's Iran and causes of Islamic Revolution.

As I said, it was not altruism, so you are definitely arguing with the wrong person.

Ok,I was kind of arguing as I thought you were saying that we in the East needed West to colonize us.

Real Estate / How the Poland property market became a HUGE bubble [35]

People often talk about the benefit to the accession countries but we must remember that it was them who needed us to join.

I am reading it for the 10th time and still don't understand.Who needed who again?

it was not altruistism which people seem to be lead to believe.

Altruism?Right. We (the Poles) have been colonized .Accidentally I just finished listening to R.Kapuscinski "Szachinszach" audio book (it's on YT) and it felt as if it was written about Poland.

This person is not Polish.
and this

Oczywiście, każdy z osobow w mojej rodziny w Polsce pije alkohol i ja często znajduje siebie odmawiac napoje alkoholowe oferowana. Jestem mężczyzna [urodzone bialy Polak] i po prostu ciekawi z ogólny sentyment do antyalkoholizm [lub abstynencji od alkoholu] w Polsce: czy to nawet istnieje?

UK, Ireland / Daniel Pelka murder: Polish mother and stepfather face life sentences [96]

UK, Ireland / Learning Polish - Polish shops in England? [34]

I guess it's changed a lot since I lived there, then :) Although, I lived in Arizona - two worlds from Chicago.

I don't think so.It's commonly used on the East Coast, where I lived for longer than I live in Chi, too.

In the UK, it's quite uncommon to hear on the streets. In fact, I'd go a step further and say it's often used in an unpleasant manner.

Strange.I better take some English classes before I go to UK (if I ever go, that is) because it seems I may be up to some culture shock. So what do you say in the UK when you see that a guy just dropped his wallet and is walking away?In the US you say "Sir..." and when he turns around "...you dropped your wallet.".Or a guy held door for you?"Thank you Sir".In most bussineses you are automatically "Sir".Do you have light bulbs?","Yes sir,we do.".Most kids and college students will address you "Sir".Soldiers and Police too.

I agree he was mean and this can break your day or at least part of it.It's hard for me to say that but people and services in Poland are in general pretty rude.I don't see what's the problem with being nice.Just nice, you don't have be exceptional like a dude from some store in ME who was yelling to me "How you doing today, man?!" with a big, friendly smile on his face, across a fairly large store.I still remember him after 10 years. It doesn't cost a penny to be nice and people like nice guys.

Back to the topic,in his defence I can say that he was a lowly paid employee, possibly having bad day.

UK, Ireland / Daniel Pelka murder: Polish mother and stepfather face life sentences [96]

Because in very large part they've got hardly any money, not enough staff and surprisingly few legal powers.

Excuses, excuses.Mail Online says this boy was scavenging for food scraps in trash bins!FFS,even I,not being trained or anything would show some interest.Ok,his mother lied about his eating disorder but I don't believe that CPS couldn't request his medical history or even order medical examination .Nobody cared because he was Polish.

Do you mean child protection services?

Yes.The British equivalent of it.

Anyway, Grubas, I seem to remember you praising that turd Rutkowski for abducting a child who was in the care of social services due to abusive parents.

You cannot compare both cases as in case of Daniel P. signs of abuse/mistreatment were (should be) obvious. In the other case not so much.

After reading more about the case in today's Mail Online it is clear to me that nothing was done because Daniel P. was, well, just a little Polack.

It also seems that Poland's and UK's agencies have much in common as nobody is being held responsible.Pretty shocking if you consider UK a "civilized" country.

oh right so the psycho stepfather and sick mother were not responsible for this, Britain was? I see.

Are you trying to argue that British CPS (whatever you call it there) did not totally fail?Who would expect it,right?Afterall police was called to their place only almost 30 times (according to today's GW) due to domestic violence.

this is something i have noticed time and again, even heard it said. 'not my fault, I am Polish'

I have noticed something different "I can't be/do wrong I am BRITISH".You people suffer from superiority complex.

Yes, it is definitely all the British fault.

No sane person would say that but the fact is that BRITISH services totally failed this kid.

UK, Ireland / Learning Polish - Polish shops in England? [34]

I think that's a bit dramatic

Not only that but also untrue. It,s not like you address Pan/Pani everybody every time.

In fact, the majority of people, when stopping me on the street, address me as 'ty' and they are not necessarily older (though I've been called Pan by many old folks, which sounds odd)

You must be a young person. It may sound odd for someone not familiar with customs (I am saying customs because there is not any written rule regarding Pan/Pani,though as a rule you can't go wrong with pan/i).To give you an example lets say I am 23 years old, talking to another 23 y/o in some formal situation (like office, store, etc)I would address him per Pan.But talking to the same man in some informal situation I would address him per ty.Now lets say I am 40.I would address another 40 y/o (as well as 23 y/o) per Pan in both formal and informal situations.Women, I always address per Pani regardless their (and my) age.

Few days ago in Chicago I was approached by a Polish middle age women per ty and to me it sounded awkward (crude?).I immidiatelly thought she had bad manners. With that being said, as a foreigner you will be given some slack and nobody will assault you just for addressing him per ty.Though, it is possible that he may not like it. I don't feel like writing a lot, basically you would have spend some time among Poles to get a grasp on customs.
