News / What's the stupidest question asked about Poland? [414]

One guy asked me once if we have TV, power, and stuff ... and how long is the drive to Poland? ... considering I am in Canada. Those questions killed me as you have to fly through the ocean to get to Poland from Canada first and then the TV question ... ggrrr ... some people are really living in a jar or something...

Life / Poland's Environment, recycling [79]

I thought I would paste a snapshot of how Germany looks like where the tourist dont see it hehe. So not only Poland has problems with environment, it all depends on us, people living everyday lives and contributing to the mess around ourselves.

Food / traditional breakfasts in Poland [74]

My friends told me they've seen a couple, but it has to be rather a bigger employer .. besides, Poles still prefer to make their own lunch .. cheaper and perhaps healthier too

Life / Poland's Environment, recycling [79]

y Parents have 4 bins and this is the norm these days.

We do the same in Canada. I have 3 different bins. 1st for plastics/metals, 2nd for paper, 3rd for regular garbage. Yes it takes time to get used to the idea of recycling but after a while it's really no hassle at all.

...Customer service sucks in Poland big way

I agree with that .. but I think it will change over time. I've already noticed the difference when I visited Poland very recently.

I notice Poles don't save water. They'd wash dishes in running water, no soaking. It is happening especially in housholds where there is no individual meters

I always thought that there was a policy put in place couple years ago that every housing unit is supposed to have individual water usage metering to prevent such water waste. Once you pay for what you've used up, people actually started to conserve. I guess the regulation is not fully in place yet.

Life / Is the word "Polack"rascist? [185]

I think it depends, but I personally dont find it offensive in any way, it's just funny and that's all.. but this could depend on the context of your conversation though

News / Polish Immigrants Leave America for Europe [210]

... and it's so much closer to Poland .. cheaper to travel to visits old friends and family. Europe is probably less materialistically oriented than Americans too .. as Grzegorz stated previously. I think I noticed that in Canada as well. Some immigrants are tired of a constant money rush and come back with savings to Europe or even Poland.

Life / Favourite Polish movies? [107]

Maybe not everyone is going to agree with me but I would describe the majority of Polish ciema as depressing, hard-content, serious. For some movies you really have to be Polish to get what's going on, you have to know the ins and outs of the polish language and culture to really feel the movie. Foreigners often cannot handle our movies, subtitles aren't enough you know.

From those "hard" movies I would rate high the following titles: Dlug, Dzien Swira (all three episodes); Symetria; Seksmisja; Sami Swoi; Skazany na Bluesa; Samotnosc w Sieci ...

USA, Canada / Looking for Polish people living in Toronto [48]

Question is where are you all???

Hey Chris, I'm in Waterloo ... you're right. There is like half a million of Poles in Canada. Majority of that figure s/b in Ontario and Quebec but we're kind of unvisible comparing to other minorities which manage to organize themselves and be "out there"..
