Is it the norm or even common? No
Spinning events to try and make them more frequent or out of control than is real is propaganda plain and simple.
Not provoking at all...just restating my view on the issue. Your's is the standard European reply that is based in what you "hear" not what you know about this issue. That view is not rooted in anything but emotion and perceived righteousness.

I am not supportive of Franeks racial issues but Seanus....you have a typical and very uninformed view of the USA and it's gun culture. I find the most vocal opponents are people like yourself they really don't have any first hand experience with the USA or guns. It is extremely common here and I find it a bit pathetic that so many Europeans think they have this issue figured out.
I agree with Svenski, Franek. Do you have guns to commemorate the Wild West? Do u fire off a shot when u greet each other? Do u say, 'mine's bigger than yours'? Come on, ever watched COPS? Even then, that's only TV but u know the reality as well as we do.

You are spinning things. There are violents crimes in the USA yes. Even when they dont have a gun they are usually in greater numbers, on drugs, have other weapons etc. In these cases I find it acceptable to use a gun to stop the assault.
The nuclear bomb thing is not even on the same page. This is a weapon that can do bazillions more times damage than a gun. And...before we give someone a gun we check out their history and make sure they are not violent criminals or psych patients. We have checked out Iran's history and they are a bit off...we don't think they would be a responsble bomb owner right now....sorry ;(

and people kill in other ways...and the bad bad guys still have guns here. In the UK they are banning knives now...what next sticks?
People will always find ways to kill. The bad guys do not follow laws...so if you ban guns the good people are the only ones not going to have them. I would love for all violence to leave the world but its not going to happen. Bad people have guns....all over...as long as they do I want one too.

Home invasions and armed robberies are common. I know the Euro way is to cover your eyes and hope they don't hurt you but in the US people fight back to protect family. If a few big guys with pipes or knives were in your house trying to rape your daughter what would you do? Have you ever been in a fight for your life Seanus? Do you really think you could beat off multiple (or even one) angry attacker? Nobody wants to take a life (nobody sane) but bad guys do bad things. If it is me or my family or the bad guy...I choose the bad guy.

Hunting as you said....sport shooting for competition like olympic events....self defense. I know the last one is the one most Euros take issue with but I have said before. Most people who carry for self defense hope to NEVER have to use it but to know it is there and can potentially save the life of your family or innocents (and it happens regularly) is worth having it.
It's all academic anyway as it is our right and in our constitution. We will continue to support it regardless of what Europe thinks about it.

Wrong. I carried most days when I lived there and never did anything nefarious with it. Neither do most people who own guns.
I know Euros don't get it or agree with it but guns are tools like cars and any other potentially deadly thing. Abuse them and they can be a problem. Cars kill far more people than guns.

Yeah I knew a Polish guy who was dark skinned and had black hair. He could pass for Arab, Turkish etc. We were at a dinner with a bunch of people neither of us knew and they asked him where he was from and said his Polish was very good. He told them he was 100% Polish and they didn't believe it. They made Turk jokes the whole night and gave him a load of trouble.

Compared to most other places I have been I have seen more overt and quiet comments directed at non-whites and obvious foreigners. In private when people speak openly...like during dinners...the prevailing attitudes toward non-white foreigners are bad. Most of the comments on this forum from Poles regarding the issue reflect the same beliefs. Polish girls dating non-whites are much less accepted than in many (many not all) countries.
Everything I have said has been mentioned unsolicited by other expats and Poles and is not just my opinion.
It is not saying Poles are inferior or somehow 'less' but that is how the react...as if you were saying such a thing. It simply means that there is an aspect of the culture that needs improvement.
So how we treat them ?

There is a huge problem with accepting responsibility here. Now...one theory as to why this is come from many old Poles I know. They say that in the communist times if you were deemed responsible for a problem bad things could happen to you or at the very least you may lose something. Thus is became a part of the culture to deflect blame. You see this to this day in many aspects of the culture and business here. Every expat I know agrees and has experienced this. Only 'some' Poles tend to disagree...several Poles I know even acknowledge this.
