Well personally I would much prefer to see a 'West-end Warsaw' than a Londonistan, which is what that once great city has turned into. And sadly, it looks as if the damage is irreversible.

I'm slowly working my way through it, maybe I'm exceptionally dumb, but I think that listening to each lesson just once, at a rate of one per day is too fast for me. I find it better to listen to each lesson 2 or 3 times 'til it gels. Apart from that it's an excellent way to learn, as far as listening and speaking goes. Opinions seem to be divided on whether one should learn to speak first, read first or learn to speak and read simultaneously. Pimsleur seems to suit me the best out of all the methods i tried, but everyone's different!

P.s. i think they recommend that you don't attempt to try to read at the same time, precisely because it will probably look so different to how it sounds.

It seems that if one is a white, Christian European in Britain, then ones needs, beliefs and culture will be ignored by the powers that be. But if one belongs to an ethnic minority and an alien religion then the authorities will fall over themselves to accommodate you. Or perhaps its just me- but I do feel like a stranger in my own country nowadays.

Thank you. One of the aspects of British culture that I admired the most was its tolerance- but now I think it is TOO tolerant. Again, at the risk of being called a racist- I regularly travel abroad, and when in someone elses country I do not expect people to hide their beliefs and culture away for fear of offending me, I respect that i am a guest of that country and i am grateful to be admitted into it- i am of course, speaking of certain non-European elements in the U.K. As for Britains benefit system, it is a well-known fact that the amount of claimants receiving welfare has risen in accord with the generosity of the payments, affording them a relatively comfortable & indolent lifestyle. And i refer to native Britons, not Polish immigrants, who by and large travel to Britain to work, not sponge from the state.

Very true. I left Britain in 1990, when I returned 12 years later i did not recognise the place- a nation of indigenous chavs and sullen asian immigrants, mosques and bargain supermarkets, obese couch potatoes, (usually unemployed through some vague, hard to disprove ailment such as depression or back pain.) & religious fanatics preaching hatred and resentful of the country they chose to dwell in.

Notions such as freedom of speech, concerns for ones culture, and patriotism are quickly quashed and labelled racism. I would welcome all Polish people to Britain and Ireland, because generally they work, they respect that they are in someone else's country, they integrate and are not trying to force their culture on us, but then maybe that is because we share a similar culture anyway.

a warning to the Polish- do not let your country and culture be overrun and destroyed in the same way that Britain has. So far you have not had a large influx of immigrants, but when your economy improves, when they think that there is something to be gained- then you must beware.

i put RAF in capitals because i was in the services, sometimes i bother, but only when i think it's worth the huge effort of pressing the caps lock.

yes it was a gamble, because the polish pilots were mostly newly converted to RAF fighters and largely untested in battle- and i don't use capitals when i'm typing as i can't be bothered...

seanus- not really, when the RAF was on its last legs air vice marshal dowding released the polish squadrons that were in reserve- he had to, there were few trained pilots left. his gamble paid off, though the polish pilots were inexperienced they proved to be ferocious fighters.

p.s, im confused by the 'practicing my conditionals' bit- i'm english in case you didn't know....

i couldn't have put it better. we could all be under nazi rule today if the polish pilots had not tipped the balance in our favour in 1940, and of course the efforts by other branches of polish forces later on.

my Polish girlfriend and i plan to move to poland some day, i'd like to teach english there as i believe native english speakers are sought after, but does anyone know what qualifications i would need, either to teach in a school or teach privately?
