Food / Borscht - Zurek / Bialy barszcz recipe [153]

I bought some of that bottled stuff and I put about half the jar in mixed with water, but it tasted disgusting. I decided to add a bit of vegetable stock to it, which made it better, but was wondering if I should have added cream or maybe a bit of milk?

Food / Borscht - Zurek / Bialy barszcz recipe [153]

I have recently developed an addiction to Zurek and want to make my own (not from packet mix). Does anyone know where I can buy the Zurek liquid or rye flour in the UK? Also what is the herb that is commonly floating on top of it..Marjoram maybe??

Love / What are Polish Women like? Just started to date one. [256]

Sapphire: remember to dance on the pub table and be sick outside afterwards. You don't want to let the side down.

Absolutely! and whilst waving the Union Jack and downing 10 pints of real ale. I wont take the boyfriend though as I dont want to put him off with my English behavioural traits. He can stay home drinking wodka.

Love / What are Polish Women like? Just started to date one. [256]

It has completely shocked me just how english women spend their time and how plastic they talk, smile and want to be the best..

Well I can see you are making an effort to integrate into the UK! You clearly dont have any English female friends.. guess you are just here for our men and work. You are deluded if you think that Polish people dont divorce or cheat and that its only English women who can do a man's head in.... anyway Im off to the pub now to get trashed cos i dont have anything better to do and after all its my culture. Now go top up your sunbed tan.

Love / Are there Polish women who date black guys? [281]

yes there are some. Polish women who date black men.. and why not. Espana is a Spanish cow and he has as much right to be here as any of us... or is there an entry form to prove your credible links to Poland. Ive decided to answer all useless threads today.

UK, Ireland / Britain... What the Poles did for us. [444]

I agree with that. But this generation of Poles has nothing to do with the article posted by the OP, which refers to the recent wave of immigration.

UK, Ireland / Britain... What the Poles did for us. [444]

The fact is the average Pole has 4 years more education/training than a Brit of similar age.

If this is a fact then I would like to know where this information comes from? Education or training? they may not be the same thing!

I think that Polish people have largely bought positive things to Britain, but if they choose to go home the British economy is not going to collapse (its already done that) and I also resent the stereotype that British people are lazy and the attitude of some Polish people here who think that we (Britain) owes them a living, whether it be in work or State handouts. If only Poland could show as much of a welcome to Brits working there as we have to them we could all be happy. Its true that there is racism towards Polish people in Britain, but as a percentage of the population I would say there are far more racist views in Poland than in Britain.. only my opinion of course.

Life / Is it me or do any guys in Poland not have shaved heads? [113]

regardless of nationality..guys who shave their heads are either going/gone bald, have head lice, want to look hard, in the army, like ska music, fresh out of jail or cant be bothered/cant afford to go to the hairdressers/barbers.

Not all Polish men are shaven.. but those that do shave their heads, do they shave their pubes too? oh sorry, thats a whole other thread.

UK, Ireland / Time for the Poles from the UK to go home [437]

Brown made him look like a bumbling fool as Blair always did.

True. But Brown is hardly the most respected head of state either... I reckon he's on the way out.

UGG boots: I went to Africa in a pair of cheap Ugg boots.. well it was cold when I left home and I didnt know the airline was going to lose my luggage for 5 days.. so until I could get to the local market to buy some flipflops I was traipsing around in 30 degrees in a pair of the aforementioned boots, which I can tell you is not a good thing in that kind of weather. Personally I resisted buying any of these boots for a very long time as I thought (and still do) that they are ugly, however, when its cold outside there is something to be said for them. Has anyone seen those disgusting knitted versions .. they are just wrong on all levels. Last week I saw a man in a pair of Ugg boots in London, is this acceptable? He had his jeans tucked inside them and I just thought.. .wrong!

UK, Ireland / Time for the Poles from the UK to go home [437]

Its not a question of being lazy, its about knowing what you are worth. If you are more skilled than someone else then you wouldnt (or shouldn't)feel happy accepting a lower wage or even the same wage as them.. and why should you? Employees who look for cheap labour will generally get what they deserve.. inexperienced workers and/or a shoddy job. The amount of cheap labour flooding the workforce in the UK is providing choice and competition but is also undoubtedly forcing some professional tradespeople to change profession as they do not want to work for a pittance.

does anyone think those Polish street fashion pics are really fashionable?

No no no. You see, "fashion" in America starts in California

OMIGOD.. dont even get me started on Californian 'fashion'. I may not be American, but even I know that the fashion capital of the USA is New York.

why is there no colour in the streets?

Do they? Maybe in the City during the week when some people have to conform to a dress code. Otherwise this just isnt the case at all. Maybe its the kind of places that you go and people that you meet?

Just out of interest, was his dress sense that bad before that you needed to save him

not too bad, just Polish style. Cheap trainers and jeans. However, you need to be careful what you wish for as now he is more into clothes than me and i can hardly get in the wardrobe. Not sure about the polka dot jeans, unless they sell them in TopMan?

bit Whitney dressed as Britney

I love that! would rather look like Whitney than Britney these days. I'm older than you and I like to dress up too, its all about knowing your body and what you can (and cannot) get away with isnt it. The wrong clothes can be so ageing. I dont know why some people think they have to radically change their style when they reach a certain age. When Im older I want to be one of those eccentric old ladies who dont give a damn what people think and dress eclectically.

pink is not for polish males

Ive got my partner into pink, at first he thought it was a bit gay, but has now embraced it. Only tops though, not trousers. I am now trying to convince him of the merits of purple.

My predictions for spring are coral, lemon, all range of pinks and other sorbet colours. Plus red and navy, especialy nautical stripes. Green and will always be a winner in my book and polka dots too.
