Life / What is with Polish and their indoor plants? [26]

I love plants. They make cleaner air inside a home and make it more inviting. Of course I have lots of them! Spider plant and mother-in-law's tongue are good to have in the bedroom. My place is not too sunny and many plants do not want to grow, but the ones which do not care about bright lite simply thrive. Mostly ferns and spider plants. I have some others but i don't know their names...I'm happy they grow without the sun ever shining on them. My balcony is my little, private jungle in the summer! :)

USA, Canada / Why are Polish restaurants not successful in the USA? [698]

Foods at any restaurants are coming out of can, the tasty marinara sauce in Italian place, the Italian beef, the sauce on your veggies in Chinese place, the frozen fries in most fast food places - all made to make your taste buds scream with flavor.

Polish foods (cooked at home) are WHOLE FOODS, not much out of a can. This makes a huge difference. Have any of you watch a program on TV how processed foods are made? If you did, you'd never want to eat it. Really, fried chicken is OK, as long as it ran in the back yard first and was fed with natural grains. A vegetable salad full of mayo is fine, as long as it was made from vegetables grown in the yard, not out of a can. You see, I have a lunch with some people at work, I have a salad (mayo, olive oil, apple vinegar etc. - made at home), they have a burger from McDonald's or a sandwich from Jimmy Jones, Subway or other place...considering it a good food. Well, it's not. The red , processed meat(if you can even call it that) went through many 'improvements', flavor enhancements etc, before it endead in the bun. Basically, we eat the same food, but what's IN IT it's different. So, the everyday polish food make seem bland, but it's much better for you. At the end, our body cells know the difference. That's when you end up with size 18. Not to mention, I get looks when I say I walked 6 miles last night...

UK, Ireland / Are Polish people importing a new wave of ancient racism into the UK? [402]

People seem to have racism on the brain, even when there isn't any. It's tiring

I totally agree with this one. The 'sensitive' part of people is tiring. Why do people feel so worthless nowadays? Why is every word and statement considered racist?

Do we really live in a touchy-feely world instead of the everyday reality of it? Can't we just pass it and move on?
At the end, we read the same fairy-tale stories as kids, we did and can listen to the same music now, we read the same books, we can listen to the same news and read the same Internet stories...can we not get along?

Off-Topic / How do Polish people operate? what makes them tick? [103]

I'm glad you have a sense of humor about it! It shows that you are happy and adapted to living in this country. Down with miserables!!! :) WE don't need them here.

I'm not feeling being screwed .

Me neither. God Bless America. No matter what the disgruntled people say. Their problem. Their loss. It just show that this country is not for former commie dwellers.

How typical, attacking America and it's policies. The thread is about Poles. You got you a** kicked here because you expected to have thing provided for you. You had been given opportunities. Just because you did not know how to take them, you are bitter. That's it.

We are talking about people, everyday folks.

Off-Topic / How do Polish people operate? what makes them tick? [103]

I don't exactly follow each and everybody posting here (on PF taht is - not this thread alone) but Havok has plenty of good points all who responded reacted in the typical, miserable Polish way. Why? Toilets and stuff... And, why are mixing 'American way' into it?

Havok tries to tell you his observations (they happen to be right) well, most of them. So, instead of immediately fighting him, think about it. No matter what anybody says, thinking and responding 'the American way' is great. When you debate something in this country, I mean when regular folks talk), they will hear you first - then respond.

Unlike my Polish compatriots, when they want to be heard but they don't know how to listen. It drives me nuts often, when I get a call and my friend keeps talking without listening! The last time I just had to say.."I liked your monologue, would you like to have a dialog now?". I think she did not like it because I did not hear from her for four days. Oh well.

Food / Polish food at home or out? [57]

Good job Des Essientes. I personally don't believe in the whole low fat marketing. It only 'makes' your body to want more and you end up with more calories. A marketing scam, that's all. Long time ago, when I was going to school and worked as a waitress, people drove me nuts when they ordered a huge steak and a diet soda. Why bother? Get the steak and regular drink. Just don't make it an everyday meal. The same with milk. Forget the blueish low fat milk. Yuck! Have the full 4 or 2%, but a glass only - not a half a gallon at once.

News / Is it right for Polish citizens/Poles not living in PL to vote? [11]

Unless you are here only for a visit and are going back within a year ot two, yes, you can vote and you should. All others who live here and have American citizenship -- keep your hands off the polls. Let your family in Poland and Polish citizens decide their fate.

Well, it is what it is. I'm Taurus with my feet strongly planted on the ground. I'm not the one floating in the blue skies ruffling my feathers and denying reality :) A pretty picture, but real? Just like angels, I guess.

USA, Canada / Chicago's 1.1 million Polish Americans celebrated Constitution Day [47]

they like to be Polish when it suits them, but when it comes to actually doing anything for Poland, they run away and ignore it.

Delphia-Dope has so much to say about Polonia... instead, he should be talking about his Russki roots and be an expert in it. It's mind buggling that he can not be able to look in the mirror and assess his credentials. Living in Poland for a few years makes you an expert in NOTHING. Me, living in the US for 30+ years, makes me an expert and I can express my feelings about my Polishness and my US expertise. Going to Constitution Day parade or Taste of Polonia is one of them. So, put your face in a bucket of sh**t and hush. I will express my Polish roots just how I want it ant not how you think I should. Go and wave your commie Russian flag on October 17.

a crow knows it's a crow and not a swan

Not really, many crows think they are swans and it's good to bring them to reality.

Then it's time to join the civilized world and step away from 'natural selection'. Animals and birds do it. Not that it's wrong for a female bird to pick a boy with the most bright eyes or the the best looking nest he built for her... Humans have more choices. :)

Good job, Havok. I agree. Shake off the darn chip off your shoulder my dear Poles. You are not the most important person in the world. Not in the USA, not in the EU. Who the heck put it in your mind?

Life / Uptight Poles [262]

I agree, people tend to have certain believes (drugs, botox) yet, they see a harm in smoking. Some people I know are vegetarians, eat lots of veggies but don't believe in organic food...My friend eats only raw foods, no meat...., and looks quite aged for her age...really, we all need to let other people be. Does anybody know what really works? Naah..My former landlady lived to 93 and smoked since she was 17, healthy and smart as a button. I say, it's all in the genes.

Love / Hot Polish girls in clubs - why don't they dance/talk with the most attractive men only? [148]

I'm commenting on girls who rather date ugly colored or ugly whites with ponytails than

Maybe they are beautiful inside? Unlike you? Beauty is skin deep. Don't tell me that you never seen an ugly woman with a handsome man or an ugly man with a beautiful woman. Women like men with some kind deep essence in them... We are way too often disappointed with the cute but brainless ones. So, if she finds it with a colored man or an ugly man, who are you to judge? And, it's not just Polish women only. General statements like this make you come across as uneducated and full of prejudice dude.

Bzi, if a friend asked me not to smoke in her presence or in her home, I would certainly honor her wishes. I remember being in bars or homes full of smoke and without open windows... But, if she tried to give me a lecture about smoking, I'd tell her to go to he*l. It amazes me that people who who feed on canned and processed food dare to mind smoking. Processed food is much worse than smoking, yet - there are no restrictions. Being in a company of a smoker, OMG, it will kill you right away! I blame marketing for this BS. No, I'm not saying smoking is good, it is not. Let's just not make it the villain of diseases nowadays. Additive, Red No 5 or 3, which makes food look pretty, is just as bad.

History / Question on Poland 1980-82 (the history of Solidarity during the years of 1980 and 1981) [17]

I turned on Radio Free Europe. Yes. That night they elected Karol Wojtyla to be the next Pope.

I was a high school kid at that time. To this day I remember how it was announced on Polish TV news and how uncomfortable the speaker was. He just said it in a scripted, nonchalant way and it was visible how embarrassed and uncomfortable he was to say it.
