UK, Ireland / Unemployed Poles in Ireland : a crash course in milking the system [323]

I think you will find that Ivan is Russian pretending to be Polish - that is not a Polish name

here he is on a Russian ham radio site

qrz.ru/callsign.phtml?callsign=EI8JN

here he is again, having been jailed for threatening to kill his wife

to build houses to import moreimmigrants

well it is one way of kick starting the building industry I suppose

Magda speaks

very articulate and great English and got a sympathetic reception from John Murray

As I have quoted the source, I can copy the entire text from Gazeta That is not the rule.

"Poles in Ireland. I love you, unemployment."
Written by Katarzyna Brejwo
Published in Gazeta Wyborcza

(...)
The sound of the ocean
It's six o'clock in the morning and we're walking in complete darkness through a golf course.

I travelled to Ireland to see what life is like for Polish people who've lost their jobs. I thought that when you're unemployed at least you don't have to jump out of bed so early in the morning, but no such luck.

Magda (36 years old, almost 2 years on unemployment benefits in Ireland): "I always start my days in the same way: I go down to the beach to see the sunrise. It sets me up for the rest of the day. I used to sleep until noon, but now I don't want to waste my life."

(...)

The nerves were getting to her, she had no regrets leaving her job.

UK, Ireland / Unemployed Poles in Ireland : a crash course in milking the system [323]

since when was Bosnia in the EU?

Jimmy is clearly against anyone getting massive dole payments irrespective of nationality

''Labour Party Senator Jimmy Harte has called for a cap on the amount of social welfare payments a family can receive. Harte received the information about this family from the Department of Social Protection officials. He says that $68,000 (€50,000) is more than enough for one family per year.

Harte said "The family are doing nothing illegal but the system is wrong when a couple are able to receive €90,000 [$121,000] per year for doing nothing. I don't think this sort of payment is acceptable in the good times, never mind the bad times we find ourselves in now.''

besides which the first duty of any government is to look after its own people

as for the newspaper headlines, the best one I saw was 'Living the Dole-ca Vita'

I just thought of a good one

'El-Dole-Rado'

History / Would you classify the Poland's Communist years as a "Soviet occupation" ? [221]

Operation unthinkable was always a non starter the first death rattle of a dying Empire

more a case of Churchill being able to see Stalin for what he was
Churchill had aspirations to increase the British sphere of influence in certain countries such as Greece

the next exciting update, Labour senator Jimmy Harte hits back

you tell 'em Jimmy, I will hold your jacket as you give 'em all a good dressing down

Jimmy would appear to be an anti-dole crusader

irishcentral.com/news/Bosnian-family-earning-over-121000-on-welfare-in-Ireland-130743648.html

a Bosnian family earned or should I say blagged 90,000 euros over the course of a year in Dublin.

They dont get benefits within weeks as far as i know, they have to work and pay NI for a year minimum

that is my understanding as well
however some of my Polish friends in Glasgow got council housing the moment they rolled up
in fairness it was an absolute kharzi of a place with smack heads for neighbours but anywhere you lay your hat....

Law / If you lose your job in Poland is it easy to claim welfare? [36]

Spain's is pretty cushy too

four years work then two year's welfare at 1200 euro per month if I recall

you would have to be doing quite well to bring home 1200 euro net every month in the present economic climate

Being work shy doesn't mean you're a freeloader in Poland. There's little to "freeload".

that just about sums it up

6 months pittance on the rock and roll and then 'hustling just to survive' (excuse the 1970s ghetto parlance)

Law / If you lose your job in Poland is it easy to claim welfare? [36]

it is rare in Poland but I know a lot of people in the UK and The States who quit their jobs without anything lined up

I knew a few people who did the same thing in Warsaw as they could not stand working where they were

this would lead us to a great new thread as some Poles put up with working conditions that are abominal - McCain french fries salesmen

for example. No one in Europe would put up with the manipulation that their salesmen had to put up with

it is not the wisest course of action perhaps

I just posted the same link but a moment ago

great minds... do you speak Polish?

Crazy so just to confirm if you quit you can only get unemployment for 3 months?

bingo

no I talked to the natives. I can do that by being based in God's own country and possessing a knowledge of the lingo

Law / If you lose your job in Poland is it easy to claim welfare? [36]

1) No housing benefit
yep
2) Unemployed for 6 months
nope
3) Can only claim for a year
nope
3 months if you jack, 6 months if you were canned

I also found online that the average payment is 147 euros a month....

maybe

what do you do?
get an old pram, convert it to an all purpose scrap metal collecting buggy and join all the other unemployed monkeys
an ability to fight may come in handy otherwise you will be robbed blind by other pikeys

Life / What is the school bus security standard in Poland? [18]

what Poland really needs is flashing LED signs stuck to the back of the school bus in order to warn drivers that there is a school bus up ahead

.... if only someone could help....

Study / Shocking! Test standards in Polish schools. [165]

Beats me why more companies don't simply hire one or tw o in-house teachers rather than relying on language schools, actually.

particularly when Poland is full of English teachers who would give their right arm not to work as English teachers

many graduates of English do not want to be doomed to have to spend the rest of their lives regurgitating last year's lessons in a state school

and would be very happy to man the photocopier, proof read sales materials and tidy up their colleagues English emails. This is the
first rung on the ladder to being a junior project manager or marketing assistant

News / Boom for food exports from Poland [17]

some culling of bisons is necessary

well said

rather than have a local hunter cull a couple of head, why not charge a German or American hunter several thousand dollars for the privilege?

the last time I was a Bialowieza I was speaking to a guide who was complaining that the Polish bison are getting very inbred indeed

and he felt that it was critical to introduce some fresh blood from the wild bison stock from Belarus

inbreding will endanger the entire herd, better to whack a few sickly bison now and use the money to sponsor the future health of the herd

by heading over to Belarus and returning to Poland with a bucket of bison mess and a pair of rubber gloves and a funnel

inbreeding in the Scottish aristocracy usually takes the form of receding chins and buck teeth whereas inbreeding in Bison manifests itself
by infertility, still birth and early death

News / Poland now soft-pedalling ACTA signing [107]

Not with ACTA in place you can't

no, you are wrong. after 21 years since its patent registration, Viagra's patent will expire
then it is open season and anyone can have a stab at making a generic

the fact that Sun did that in India years ago and market a pirate version called Erecto, is besides the point
they cannot sell it in Europe

what is getting Oxfam bothered is that these pirate drugs are being made in India and flogged in Africa
they are dirt cheap and poor African people can afford them

however as neither India nor any country in Africa (as far as I aware) signed up to Acta there is nothing to worry about

the price of drugs in the states is obscene so you might be illegally importing snide drugs through the Internet
if you are, ACTA will effect you big time

News / Poland now soft-pedalling ACTA signing [107]

What's new there?

this is what I thought

now if you are getting snide drugs delivered to you in the US, then you a reason to worry
however in fairness I would be far more worried about what was inside the bargain bucket medication you
bought on the internet

fair enough, Torrent and Ranbaxy are fairly kosher but there are some really nasty copies out there
which are just plain nasty

News / Poland now soft-pedalling ACTA signing [107]

I hope this is a rhetorical question. Obviously I am mighty peeved about the whole thing. It may well be the death knell for the European countries' national healthcare programmes.

if the patent for an Rx expires, you can make a generic version, if it hasn't, you can't

it is really simple and I cannot begin to think why you consider this to be dangerous for a nation's healthcare program
in order to insist on more generics being prescribed, each healthcare entity needs to beef up its national formulary

I am starting to feel concerned as perhaps I have overlooked something, so if you know of concrete reasons why generics are under threat, please let me know

News / Poland now soft-pedalling ACTA signing [107]

It will limit our access to generic medicines.

how do you feel that ACTA will result in governments insisting that physicians insist on prescribing the original Rx when there is a perfectly legal and viable generic available?

particularly at a time when there is no money about

News / Poland now soft-pedalling ACTA signing [107]

If file sharing is the REAL issue why not pass a law specific to that, then take down all torrent sites and implement huge penaties for anybody caught downloading copyright content.

good idea. Microsoft have been doing it for years. It is really risky using snide Microsoft software in Poland if you are a firm.

all the torrent sites are up and running and I may or may have not downloaded something last night and it worked fine and dandy

I suspect that the US government is looking at China with its terribly restricted internet access and how the country functions well
and want to implement something similar in the land of the free

as you know I have a lot of business partners in China and whenever I send them links of interesting stuff, they cannot access them

I would support legislation that would shut down all sites that condone racism (including this one).

Sir, you are someone who claims to work in the pûrn industry and considers Poland to be a sh!thole (your words not mine)

frankly your opinion means very little to me

the only thing about you that interests me remotely is why you visit a website focussed on a country which you know nothing about

News / Poland now soft-pedalling ACTA signing [107]

You started this with your sarcasm so don't go crying the victim,

believe me I am not crying the victim and your accusations of my lack of intelligence amuse me

and now back to topic, I stand by my comments about ACTA, I believe that the weight of public opinion
against it will torpedo it. So far, I have not contradicted myself however I do not have a crystal ball
and may be very well wrong indeed. perhaps this is just the beginning of a real crackdown
on personal freedom and perhaps this forum which you and I are enjoying bickering on will
itself be a victim of ACTA or a much worse piece of leglislation to come

I do not feel that silly really

I believe that this bill will be defeated by the weight of public opinion against it

moderate your tone, there's a good lad

News / Poland now soft-pedalling ACTA signing [107]

Poland was the perfect country to experiment with, nothing like a nation that is used to being shafted throughout the past 80 years to try and pull a fast one over.

so you are saying that the US picks the country that gave the Nazis more trouble than any other country in Europe (with the exception of Yugoslavia but they had the benefit of mountainous terrain) and who more or less brought down communism to use as a patsy to test a piece of controversial legislation?

erm ok... might it not have been wiser to try this in ultra conservative Austria, or perhaps Switzerland or maybe the Czech Republic?

the effects are taking a while to take effect

one thing immediately noticeable is that Youtube is now longer showing full length feature films

however full length documentaries do not appear to have been effected

bear in mind that if the law kicks in, you ISP will be forced by law to grass you up the moment
you download torrents

this weekend will be interesting to see what the public reaction will be in Poland
