Law / Can I take the Polish written test and obtain a Polish driving licence? [28]

Can anyone from any country visit poland with their existing driving license, take the polish written test and obtain a polish driving license. I am hoping someone on this forum knows the answer. They are not a resident of poland (they have a U.A.E. passport & driving license) but if they need a polish address they could use mine.

Thanks very much.

PS I have searched through the forum and this topic has been mentioned before
but I am just double checking.....

Law / Can I take the Polish written test and obtain a Polish driving licence? [28]

Thanks for the info. That scuppers that plan. The whole problem stems from the fact that they keep moving around - six months in one country and then six months in another. I understand you need to be resident in the UK for three years before applying for a driving licence and was hoping Poland did not have this type of requirement.

Thanks anyway

They have a International drivers licence as well as a UAE licence but have to return to the UAE to renew the international licence. It's not a problem in itself but of couse you have to return on a certain date each year so a europe wide licence would be better.

Law / Can I take the Polish written test and obtain a Polish driving licence? [28]

After checking with a test centre in Poland I am still unsure what is acceptable as staying in Poland for 185 days and having a personal contact is. This was the requirement for obtaining a Polish driving licence after passing the written exam for a non european citizen.

Can you just rent a flat for six months for instance and thus qualify as staying for six months and then take the test...

Life / Picking up BBC television in Poland [41]

I think there might be a shared sat dish on the block where I have a flat. Would anyone
happen to know if I buy a receiver would I be able to pick up english freesat programmes.
I think the sat for England is called astra on 28.2 degress east ( I looked it up) but is it
the same one as used in Poland..
Many thanks

PS The reason I think there might be a shared dish for our building is because it is much larger than other dishes around and I have a mystery cable coming into my flat and it's not the tv aerial cable....

Life / Picking up BBC television in Poland [41]

Thanks for the info. Looks like I would need a 90cm dish and then I would have to
sort out the installation..a friend of mine has offered me his old sky box (he's gone over to HD) so I suppose I could use his box (not with a subscription) and buy a dish.

Wonder how much a dish installation costs in Poland....

Thanks again for telling me about the different sat...

News / Zloty exchange rates - is this just speculation? [87]

As the Zloty appears to be getting stronger against other currencies and with the unofficial opion of friends in Poland that the economy is heading for trouble then the feeling was that the zloty would continue getting stronger for maybe another year or so and then nosedive - as an example you might get 4.20zl to the Pound today and maybe in a years time you might get 3.80zl to the Pound but from then on expect a decline to more like 6zl or even 7zl to the Pound.

Any thoughts from the forum or is this just speculation - this conversation came about because friends over in Poland have some income in Pounds and of course grumble about getting a bad exchange rate.

News / Zloty exchange rates - is this just speculation? [87]

I have some savings in Poland so when I visit (about every other month) I can either change more Pounds or withdraw out of savings. I was thinking of a cut off of 4zl to the Pound when I would start to withdraw savings but maybe I should be thinking of something like 4.10zl to the Pound as a cut off....

So in effect the exchange rate could go either way - but I have also heard that the Polish economy is not as good as the Polish government says it is.....

A discussion I started some months ago about which way the Pound/Zloty was
going to go - has anyone checked lately - I would not have belived it - 4.30ish
to the Pound - wonder if it was because of our hung parliament ..

UK, Ireland / EXCHANGE RATES BETWEEN POLISH ZLOTY AND BRITISH POUND [73]

What's the forum's views on the exchange rate at the moment. I am over to Poznan again in a few weeks - trying to decide whether to change Sterling (I usually go the the little Kantor

in front of Poznan station on the left) or to withdraw some Zlotys from my Polish savings account.

UK, Ireland / EXCHANGE RATES BETWEEN POLISH ZLOTY AND BRITISH POUND [73]

Just returned from Poznan - I changed Pounds at 4.50 but if I had waited a day I would have got 4.58 - having said that the Kanta chap best guess view was the Zloty going to 4.35

to the Pound. Still cannot understand the number of expensive cars that seem to be around.
I was waiting outside Zbaszynek station, just an ordinary Polish town, when a Porsche pulled up...pity it was'nt mine...

Work / Average monthly salary in Poland is around 1000 PLN (few hundred bucks). [387]

I visit Poland a lot and I have been told a typical low salary is 1000zl a month - yet there seems to be lots of expensive cars around and my friendly hotel receptionist has her own flat, small car and a trip abroad every other year - none of which adds up unless everyone is borrowing loads.

sky box in poznan

Would anyone know for certain that if I buy a 1m dish in Poznan
(a shop I visited said 85cm would be okay) I could receive some
english channels. I know I could not receive BBC1 or ITV unless
I had a giant dish but understand Astra 2a & 2b is okay just not
2d.

Which channels could I get - Sky news, BBC World news, Channel 5
for instance....thanks for any advice....and do I need a sky card
because I do not have one ...
