Life / Looking for my old car in Poland (is it registered?) [16]

Try to write a letter to:

MINISTERSTWO SPRAW WEWNĘTRZNYCH
02-591 WARSZAWA
UL. STEFANA BATOREGO 5

Try to explain your problem and ask to check the cars data in CEPIK (central evidence of vehihicules and drivers). You must know VIN of the car.

Law / "Good" Polish Bank ? [19]

The best bank is PKO BP, because of highest capital and domectic (mostly) owners. They charge their customers higher then others, but in case of any crisis even ver bad this bank will survive. This info is from my frind working at international bank in Poland. I don't have an account in PKO BP, because I don't have deposits to keep in it, but I used their internet service at work. Comparing to some others is 8/10.

Life / Our Life impact and expectation in Warsaw During EURO 2012 [6]

I will go out for Holiday at the time of UEFA EURO, some of the main streets are already closed because of subway construction and some others will be during matches. It doesn't sound good for people living or working in a city center.

Travel / Wroclaw Euro 2012 - how much zloty I should be taking with me? [16]

sa11y is right, better use your cc, or take cash from ATM to spend in bars, clubs, etc, even if they accept cards. Wroclaw is an excellent place for "mad time" in my opinion better then Krakow. Just go to "RyneK" (old town square) and you wil see. All pubs, bars, clubs worth to visit are located there. You'll feel like a VIP spending 1700 zl/night.

Real Estate / Poland's flat rental agents and the anger they brew in me.... [60]

What kind of flat you want to rent in Warsaw? I will explain to you how to search offers excluding "biuro nieruchomosci", "agent nieruchomosci". Direct offers often contain word "bezposrednio" in title.

UK, Ireland / Sooo many Polski Sklep in the UK, LOL [64]

Polski Shop full of Polish imported Products shopped in by the Poles in exile by British money that ultimately finds its way to Poland (3 Billion taken out of the UK Economy a year by EU Immigrants)

British Money -> Poland

Most of small food shops in my neighborhood (Warsaw) bankrupt within one year after a new Tesco started with their 24/7 hipermarket. It is equiped with self service POS so has less employment then mid size Polski Sklep.

Polish Money > UK

Travel / What do you think about hitchhikers in Poland? [33]

Last year I took 2 hitchhikers with backpacks going from Eastern Poland to Warsaw. They were Russian girl students of Art University from St. Petersburg going to Paris. They told me they want to visit as much galleries as possible and they had a plan to save as much as possible slipping in their tent somwhere in public parks or train stations (even if they had some cash and credit cards). I was trying to explain them it is not a good idea, because it's not safe for 2 young girls and is not allowed in some countries (Poland and Germany for. example). Finaly I arranged a room in youth hostel for them. I hope they finally reach their destination and turned back home alive.

History / Early 80s - Could just anybody come stroling on in? [11]

would Americans have an "escort" or be free to roam during those turbulent Solidarity years?

Foreigners were mostly free to travel in Poland, but some of them had a record at SB (Security Service) files and could be even recorded when talking in a hotel bar. Most of staff in international hotels - Orbis chain was paid by SB. A lot of taxi drivers, money changers, prostitutes contacting with western foreigners could do their illegal job by condition they were colaboratoing with SB.

UK, Ireland / "If it's not Polish, it's shite" - What is great about Polish Beer in UK? [78]

Polish people don't have proper taste regarding beer and some foods. Most of Czech, Slovak and German brands of beer are better than polish, but the same big producers are also killing that quality. Local brewerys are still producing better beer using domestic ingedients, but most of polish population don't buy it (because of price, or lack of taste).

My favourite beers:
1. Fosters - Australia
2. Singha - Thailand
3. Radeberger - East Germany
4. DAB - Dortmund, Germany
5. Gambrinus - Czech Rep.

News / Don't go to Poland ... because you could end up coming back in a coffin [313]

As Michel Platini is not the man who will tolerate such things. He might even impose that Polish football teams not to participate in any Champions League or Europa League tournaments.

What for? In fact Platini knows better than you. He visited Poland many times during last 4 years and even earlier. Are you intolerant to Polish people?

Work / I will be in Wroclaw by October - getting employed while studying? [14]

They forced me to study Computer science , i am failing in my exams, i cant understand nor comprehend Programming :(

Then it's better to you you failed that exams, it's big competition of very skilled and educated programmers in Poland and some other EU countries. My company is doing IT business, so I know.

Mechanical and machine building engineering - lot's of good jobs in Poland now and it should't change soon. At Wroclaw University (or Polytechnical University?) your excellent math knowledge is required, maybe better then in others.

News / Don't go to Poland ... because you could end up coming back in a coffin [313]

In Poland, Jonathan Ornstein of the Jewish Cultural Centre, said football hooligans in the country are stuck in the past.

I do not recognize any.

I am concerned that they will be targeted by racists and fascists and anti-Semites in Poland and in Ukraine."

So what - racists, fascists or anti-Semites? All of them same from Poznan to Donetsk or any difference?

Nothing unusual will not happen in Poland and also Ukraine. There are 2 different reasons for both countries.

In Poland, in big cities there is a large population of immigrants from: Vietnam, China, Kaukaz, Turkey, India, North Africa and also Ukraine, Belarus, Bulgaria, Greece, Italy.

Nothing usual happens, everybody is doing his own business. Sometimes there are some incidents like this:
youtube.com/watch?v=NagShfwkmzk&feature=related

Sometimes immigrants are attackers also.

Ukraine is very open for foreigners, in most cases are friendly and helpful (even if some of them don't like Polish people for ex.). There is a large Jewish population in Odessa at the black sea.

Travel / American visiting for Euros, will standard American plug on Apple MacBook laptop work? [5]

Don't pay cc for taxi, even if the accept it. Take some local currency from ATM. Everything others you can pay VISA, or Master. AmEx or Diners may not work sometimes.

US power plug will not be OK in Europe (except some hotels), charger should work at 230V but you shoud check at the label.
Public buses, trams, trains in Gdansk are OK.
