Genealogy / Jankowice Town in Poland - records [77]

KS: I am also looking at my ancestry and have found out a bit about mine who also came from Jankowice/Rudnia (Belarus) area during that time. If you're from Melbourne, register on GaduGadu forum on the DziuplaMelbourne site and we can chat there.

Hmmmm - you never know!! My parents told me it was a pretty small place and it also looks like that there were some major family groups who married into each other - surnames I am interested in are Klackiewicz, Bartoszewicz, Emilianowicz and others such as Miszuk, Adamcewicz, Staszkiewicz. Any of those ring a bell?

The LDS website only lists records for this parish for a couple of years, around 1850's, I think.

Yeah, I found no Emilianowicz records but plenty on Bartoszewicz, Klaczkiewicz - dating all the way back to 1670!

It would be interesting to know the connection between us.

M - Are you related to Gary? I am!! Gary and I share the same ancestor: Michal Bartoszewicz..Here's how it goes between Gary and me: Michal's son Tomasz was Gary's Great Grandfather and another of Michal's sons Wincenty was my Great Great Grandfather. So Gary and my mum are 3rd cousins down the line. I'm guessing the relatives in Adelaide you speak of are my mum's aunts/uncle and their offspring.

Any way - how are you and your family? I'm doing well, all my 'treatment' is over and I'm in stage 2 of this crazy life.

Australia / Polish Culture in Melbourne, Australia [87]

I know of 2 sites to go to for that sort of info:
dziuplamelbourne.com
melbourne.pl

The Dziupla organisation does discos in North Melbourne every 2 months and a Ball in November at Albion. The next disco is on the 30th of June. They are usually great fun - its 99% english music.

There is also a music night happening at 'Renix' pizzeria in St Kilda on Acland St on the 3rd of June at 7pm

The Melbourne.pl people do a BBQ where you can meet up with other poles (aged 20-40s mostly)

Life / What is going on in Polish Music [128]

I found a great site to listen to polish music live - its radioWAWA. Only a set amount of people can log into it at one time - click on 'sluchaj' when the page comes up to listen. They play older and new stuff too.

Hi Sisterowl - I know of some Adamcewicz's in Adelaide, South Australia - in a suburb called Mansfield. There was also a Franek Adamcewicz living in NewPort, Melbourne ( has since passed) who was somehow related to those in Adelaide. Do you know of them? I dare say they also came froma round the Naliboki region.

America and Australia were the two top picks for their immigration choice

Yes. this is true. Looking at when poles emigrated it seems like Australia was very popular in the 1950s and 60s when the 'flood gates' were opened to Europeans to help increase the Oz population.

Lots of folk songs and dancing on the main stage and plenty of stuff to buy.. books, cds, dvds, hats, footballs, xmas decos etc.. Catching up with everyone was the best bit!

Nautika - I've been going to those Dziupla functions for many years and they are great fun if you like dancing (and a bit of a drink too). I am def going to the Ball at Albion on the 28th. Albion is near Sunshine on the ring road - really easy to get to. If you want to go and would like a table to sit at, let me know cos i have a few spots left. To read more about it go dziuplamelbourne.com go to gadu gadu (forum) and you'll find info under Imprezy - english and polish.

So KS i take it you're not going? Piker!! Why don't you just drive or get ur sheila to drive?

The correct spelling is Jankowce, but the Ukrainian version is spelled and pronounced Jankivtsi. It is near Lesko.

Are you thinking of somewhere else?? I don't know of any town called Lesko near Jankowicze and its pretty far from the Ukraine.

There were Miszuks living in Jankowicze up to WW2 before they were packed up to Germany for forced labour. (see straty.pl). The only Anna Miszuk I know of came to Australia with her son and daughter and grandchildren in the 1950s - i think. Her DOB is 8 Dec 1883. Her son is 79 and is living in Melbourne. But as KS posted - there is quite a bit of family.
