Language / Learning Polish to communicate with my boyfriend's family - where to start? [16]

come to poland, enroll in an intensive polish class. for instance, the ones organized by Wroclaw University of Tech or Lodz University and trust me, in 6 months you'll be speaking polish that makes sense....like me. but well that depends also on how fast you grab things as the polish grammar is way "off". all the best.

also speak with your bf in polish ;)

Language / What has been the hardest language for you to learn? [81]

for me none. i thought polish was tough, but it's not. when you understand the grammar, you come to realise it's one of the most beautiful languages on the planet. i like it. it makes me think and use my brain which is yet another reason i'm in love with this language.

Language / i don't understand this, "rozmawianO" and "pitO"? [18]

"Rozmawiano by ze mną"
"Pito by za moje zdrowie"

i understand what the sentence is saying but why "rozmawianO" and "pitO"? with the"o" at the end? what part of polish grammar is this?

wow! you guys rock! i understand this now. i was learning "tryb warunkowe" yesterday...and while i was reading, and having fun, this part of polish grammar killed my mood and confused me. so i just slept. now i'm going back to the book to continue ;)

@boletus are you a teacher?

you guys are very brilliant. you're teaching me a lot!

but i don't understand why the polish language is so difficult!

just about 2 days ago...our mathematics analysis professor didn't know if she should use "oba" or "oboje" when she was teaching us!! and she's a Polish doctor :).

Study / Good math book (math analysis) in English? Computer sciense study in Poland. [5]

yeah you know. i do this. but sometimes they are teaching something in polish, they say something, and there's nothing like that in English with google translator!! and it's hard to find out what they are talking about :(. so i end up not knowing. i know math is the same everywhere.

in my lectures, sometimes they say somethings that i can't find English translation for. and it's hard to find what they are talking about.

oh you live in the US. case close. let's not compare languages now with demographics being a factor.

besides. we're talking about jeśli OR jeżeli (polish; the official language of just one country)

Language / Pomówić usage [5]

I'm reading this grammar book and came across this sentence:

"Jesteś moim studentem już od trzech lat. Możemy więc pomówić szczerze."

I checked the meaning of "pomówić" = slander, accuse.

The meaning doesn't fit. Could it be that the book is not using the word "pomówić" right or it has another meaning? If it does, I want to know.

Thanks.

Law / Pepper Spray Legality in Poland [9]

I'm a young black male studying in Poland. I've been in Poland for approximately 2 years now and I live in Wroclaw.

When I go out at night I usually meet some racists and people who are unhappy that I'm black and living in this country.

I don't know why but that's their problem. My problem is I can't own a gun or any weapon when some of these guys get

really out of control.

Few days ago, I was attacked by one bouncer in Pasaz Niepolda. I was standing outside [Just STANDING!!] when one bouncer
walked towards me and started screaming shouting stuff like "wypierdalaj stąd..." I COMPLETELY ignored him so he felt he
was talking to a brick wall. I didn't react. I realised the other bouncers where standing just few meters away waiting for me to

react so we can start a fight. But that's not what I want. I don't want to fight anyone over stupid reasons like they're black, green or blue.

This bouncer pushed really hard expecting I'd fall trying to provoke me. Then he hit me REALLY hard in the face that
for a couple of hours I couldn't feel my face. That has be my first real physical attack in Poland. Usually they insult me...but I don't

care about that.

Is it legal for me to have a pepper spray with me here in Poland. Will I need any permission to use it. And if in self-defence, I spray

some ****, will I have problems with the law?

I don't want to hurt anyone, just in the same way I would hate someone to hit me for NO REASON.

Law / My package (postal) is being held at Zabrze, how can I get it released? [4]

So I had my uncle send me a phone from USA through USPS which works with Poczta Polska I believe. I kept checking the tracking number and realised that the item goes through customs clearance twice each day. My uncle asked me to call Poczta Polska and they told me item is "zatrzymywany węzeł ekspedycyjno-rozdzielczy w zabrzu". The item is marked as a "gift" and they don't want to release the device. I keep calling them and no one picks up, at some point the phone is busy but no one ever picks my call. This is not normal but has anyone had problems like this and what can I do to get my item.

Woman at Poczta Polska told me maybe they need some "faktura" but how can a gift have that? Why don't they want to release my package?

Do they even know what's in the package? If yes, do they have the right to open it without my consent or presence?

Life / some poles play the Race games best! [38]

i wanted to rent a room. i called the landlady and on the phone she was so nice and cool. so i went to check the room today. but one of the tenants was there. i checked the room and it was ok. she told the landlady about my visit and upon the landlady knowing i'm black, this is the email i got from the tenant:

***
Please provide English translation
***

is this an advanced form of racism? the poland is very good at it. seriously. recently i posted a thread about my gf's parents not wanting to accepting me cause i'm black.

like that wasn't enough. just this past saturday i went out with my friend and 4 guys stabbed him! :o there was a fight cause they spat on us. check the pictures below.

Life / some poles play the Race games best! [38]

@Brzenczyszczyki: i didn't say ALL people in poland are like that if you read the subject of this thread i wrote "SOME poles..." :). and be polite to who? the forum members or to my gf's parents (who have no intention of seeing me at all, i can't even meet them. they don't know me). ok. so the accommodation problem is not about my colour. fine. my gf's parents is not about my colour. good. now what about the stabbing of my friend with a knife and they spitting on us?

@Wulkan: there is a female tenant who is going to MOVE OUT on 1.08.2014!! so i'll occupy her room. in fact the are two girls in 2 rooms who are both moving out. and 2 boys moving in. me, and some Damian guy (polish). the landlady agreed to sign a contract with Damian. but not with me :D. i have a gf why should i stay with another girl??? :/

"One day if you get hit by a lightening it will be because you are black isn't it? I see you mastered playing racial card to the perfection, keep up the good work." = ?????

you're polish, naturally you'll defend them so i'm not surprised. and you tell me i mastered playing the racial card? you should see a doctor.

well i'm happy. if my gf parents don't want me. i don't care! if the landlady doesn't want to give me her room, i don't give a flying ****! BUT the only case i care is when these bastards spat on us and stabbed my friend. that's when i start to worry. and you couldn't even tell that smile was sarcastic. your iq is quite low.

@Brzenczyszczyki:

the iq part wasn't even about you haha. but ok.
and i keep saying SOME. i know some great poles and i really like them.
they spat on us (for no reason, well obviously cause we're black). then i did the same thing!! then there was a fight. they got a knife. stabbed my friend.

of course when i'm walking in town people insult me. say nasty things to me. that's ok. i don't care. and i don't react. but dare you not touch me. they spat on me.

they got their fair share of punches from me. but too bad my friend is not as hard as me. but i did teach 2 of them a lesson so i'm happy...just not happy about my friend.

:)
