News / What's the stupidest question asked about Poland? [414]

No, but they are quite independent. And there are not only Danes, but Inuits, the first inhabitants of this big island
I'd really like to go there someday, it's wonderful ;)

News / What's the stupidest question asked about Poland? [414]

The Poles lack everything. When I was in Gdansk a little while ago, I agreed to go to the butcher shop and buy some meet. They cut me off a little white food ration slip with which I could buy the meet!

A little while ago ?? You mean like half a century ??
Poland is a rich country, not as rich as England, France, Germany who are VERY rich countries, but there are a lot of people in Poland that live quite well ! Don't say stupid things like this ;)

Poland is poorer than most countries

What are you talking about ???! In Europe or in the world ?
If you compare Poland with western super rich countries who benefited of the US money after World War II, don't. England and France for example had a great help from the the US while Poland was in the hands of communism.

Now the country is rebuilding itself, and the economy is growing very fast, investors love Poland, and salaries are rising too. All that takes a long time.

They never have and they never will. End of story

Totally disagree. We'll see within the next 10-15 years ;)

Polonia / Poles in Norway? Polish community in Oslo. [43]

You're welcome ;)

How to get it in touch with them ? Do they have a local website ?

Don't know, i can look for something but i guess the better you can do is contact the Polish embassy, they would inform you better than i do... ;)

And if you have learnt the article, you will see that the best place to see Poles is at a Catholic Church on Sunday ;P LoL

I gotta go now, but i found that ForumNorwegia, take a look, it may be interesting ;)

See ya, and good luck.

Language / I want to learn Polish. Where to start? [180]

About German and French, they are not easy languages. French is known for being difficult, and particularly the grammar. As osiol said, when we speak English, the vocabulary of French (and German) is not that complicated as a lot of the today English language comes from French and Latin ;)

a lot of the today English language comes from French and Latin

And i can give examples of English words that come from French :

-Grammar : Grammaire
-Vocabulary : Vocabulaire
-Language : Langue, Langage
-Difficult : Difficile
-Complicated : Compliqué
etc.

French was THE language to learn a couple of hundred years ago

Yes, many nobles used to talk in French throughout Europe...

And actually, most of the French that came to English went via Norman language, i think...mix of Norse and French...

Nice one ;)
