News / 2010 Polish Presidential Election [39]

You didnt think he wouldnt use the sympathy voting tactic did you all ?

I dont personally believe he should run for president its all out of raw emotion and he and his brother had their chance and did fk all by all accounts.

If he is voted into power which from what i am reading he is least likely to win votes (unless polls are rigged) then there is something seriously fk'd up with peoples ideologies and moving forward.

The train long journey though approx 8 hours i think ....
Why arent you travelling direct to Gdansk then onto Gdynia in first place they put on a shuttle bus from the train station in Gdynia to the festival ... would make sense to go there unless you are on holiday in Krakow then fair play?

these are the trains the night before ie 30th June
PKP Krakow to Gdynia

thats how much it will cost you

Food / I've never cooked or eaten any polish dish before. [24]

Also, all the various types of Polish sausages are awesome (don't know their names, i let my Polish boyfriend direct me)! However, they are all equally as nice.

I lol'd so much at that .. sorry i saw the hidden innuendo there!

Kielbasa
Kabanos
are two varieties which spring quickly to mind

Explaining the different types of Polish Sausage here in this person's blog

Language / I need advice - how long does it take to learn Polish? [70]

it only takes about 24 hours to learn a whole 267 words exact!

REALLY!!!!!

alot of people have been doing it wrong then?

then fing Bing awnsers click on it and let it LOAD!

HAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHA LOL use a online translator .. online translators are wrong 99.9% of the time

if you want to learn use skype, find classes taught in your local area, immense yourself in the language every day, use Livemocha, ask your Polish friends to teach you

and even Polish people will tell you you cannot learn it in 4 weeks neither ... so avoid that book and cd as you will waste your money!

News / Brown's 'Bigotgate' and the debate about Poles [63]

I don't know, but if I were a British guy...I would hate all immigrants :P

yet everyone who lives in the UK is in some way a descent of an immigrant in the first place!!

learn that Poland is, was and always will be a Central
European Country, together with Germany, Austria, Czech Republic, Slovakia. Switzerland,
Slovenia and Hungary?

glad you said this otherwise i would have pointed it out.

the only reason the UK has the stereotypical views of the 2004 influx of Polish people is down to the Media and how they sensationalise a story to create a moral panic within society. yes i grant you the influx was nothing to the 300,000 Polish people who came to the UK under the Polish Resettlement Act 1947 but still it is down to the Media at the end of the day and that 9 times out of 10 one source of media is a person in society only source of information and that it can be mis-interpreted

Law / WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF THE EURO CURRENCY TO POLAND? [101]

she believes it would not be beneficial to Poland to adopt the Euro, as prices for everything would go up

ive said this to people .. but that it wouldnt benefit the people of Poland as it will increase spending costs in terms of how much things will cost but would benefit businesses more

How did Britain get away with this? I hear they still use the pound

Because it would go to a referendum and the British would say no!

Work / Girl looking for job speaking English apart from teaching English. Ideas? [30]

If you taught English you could also get some help to improve your Polish from your students perhaps :)

or find places that teach Polish to Foreigners many schools teach it in an evening whilst looking for work :)

Also it depends on what area of Poland you are planned to go to of which you havent indicated .. this might give people here on PF a better insight in how best to help point you in the right direction :)

for anyone to up and move to another country with a complete different language and culture is'nt an easy choice but I am positive with my decision

perservance thats all ill say on the matter ;)

Life / what is GG chat please? [17]

i was wondering how do i find GG chat as i have no idea what this is, can anyone please help ty

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gadu-Gadu tells you about it

here is where its downloadable

gadu-gadu.pl

i already have it installed on my pc but im on my third number as i deleted my old ones through spamming nowadays i dont get any thankfully :) I also use it via Nimbuzz on my blackberry :)

But as Vincent pointed out all the instructions are in polish to install and set up an account so if you are beginner to Polish you may best have a Polish friend help you install it on your pc, for me i took a worthy guess a couple years ago to install it as i was beginner.

:)

News / 1945-2010 Poles will march on Red square [66]

an interesting article regarding the victory parade back in the day from one of the Polish Air Force fighter pilots:

I was 19 when I arrived in the UK in the summer of 1940. The RAF needed pilots and I wanted to fly. After two months of English lessons, I attended the elementary flying school, then the secondary one. At the end of 1941, I was posted to Squadron 316, "The City of Warsaw Squadron", where I joined the RAF as a fighter pilot and began flying Spitfires operationally.

Language / Is it too late for me to learn Polish..? [65]

here you go

flissiebell

Aliloveskrakow

links for learning:

polishforums.com/general-language-17/polish-lessons-units-10526/

polishforums.com/general-language-17/collection-learning-resources-learning-polish-language-31442 (this one has loads of useful links on and should be first port of call)

also use livemocha as well has over 34 languages for free on there including Polish.

tv wise look through the threads on this forum many have been posted before :)

a further tip is have on a piece of A4 paper (in different colours if learning more than one language like me) the key words .. so have columns say English and Polish for you all that are just learning Polish and then pin up where you will see them daily ..... repeat those words over and over.

News / Flood situation worsens in southern Poland [119]

(We're actually thinking about creating floating cities, and something tells me we would actually be able to pull it off, so I'm not exactly worried about the future!)

Venice beat everyone to it and if they can pull it off im sure the rest of the world can!

But it is rather profound the scenes that i am seeing in pictures and videoclips but one about Poland is it can overcome over any difficulty.
