Work / How to get to job at Krakow Business Park? [5]

Hello all

I'm moving to Krakow at the end of the month to start up a job at the Krakow Business Park. What are the best ways of getting there from the centre of Krakow? Bus? Train? Tram? I know the train goes there on quite a regular basis but what about the other forms of public transport?

Work / Polish attitude towards promotions at work [11]

I am the only non-Pole working in a team, the rest being Polish. Recently a position came up at work as a manager in the same department however its with some different teams. So I applied and got the position. Whereas some of my colleagues are supportive and congratulatory I have also been accused of "running away" and thinking I am too good to work with them anymore. Obviously neither is true but I was quite shocked by the level of spite that came my way from some people. Is this typical response for gaining a promotion? Never came across it before.

Its very strange, I have worked in a few companies across a couple of EU countries and was quite a surprise. No one else from the team applied for the position so only have themselves to blame. I guess for them its easier to blame someone else if they end up staying where they are and we should all suffer equally

Work / Polish Salary and Tax [43]

Tomorrow will be a bit awkward to get to business park from old town by train as there is a train strike.

I normally catch the train to the business park, look for a regional train heading to Katowice, Oświęcim or Krzeszowice

Probably best to catch a taxi there in the morning, should be about 60zl after that just catch the train

Work / Jobs for non Polish speakers? [24]

Best to look for the multi-national or Western companies. Where I am in Krakow working the only language requirement is good English as we work mainly with Western companies.

look for a regional train heading to Katowice, Oświęcim or Krzeszowice

A young Polish family living in the IOM. The actual story is sad, and so are some of the reactions to it

Yes, I shouldn't have implied that the flights were paid for by the welfare services. It is possible that the parents paid.

as the local hospital on the IOM can't cover for all cases a lot of patients are sent to Liverpool for treatment, the travel and accommodation for a close relative is also paid for. I think in the case of children that both parents are given free travel.

Isle of Man is not a place for charity...It is a tax haven....It is also a very insular place, meaning the native residents don't take to foreigners unless they are rich, and can make money from them.

Most people who live there only benefit from the financial services industry via lower income tax there are some exceptions though but you need to be paying more that £115,000 paid a year tax somewhere else to benefit from residency there most. A lot of businesses are there to benefit from the 0/10 corporate tax rate. Its probably no more insular than any Northern Town in UK, definitely not as multi-cultural as the cities in UK.
