Maybe I am thinking of someone else. Hmmm..I have all the surnames in my family that you listed, except Miszuk, but I have heard of it.

I exchanged a few emails and old photos with someone in Australia in regards to the surnames mentioned, and thought maybe it was you.

In regards to the original thread of Jankowicze: I believe people living in Jankowicze, if Catholic, would have attended the parish church in Naliboki. Unfortunately, the original church was burned in 1943. The LDS website only lists records for this parish for a couple of years, around 1850's, I think.

I reside in USA. Most of my grandfather's family remained in Europe. They originated from the village of Rudnia.

Bartoszewicz- Kowalewski

The other surnames Syrena mentioned are in my family also. If you happen to be at the Rootsweb website, I have a ton of posts on the message boards there, easily found by doing a message board search for Bartoszewicz.

The person I had exchanged email with lived, or has parents in, Melbourne. I have found relatives in Adelaide Australia as well.

I did a search for Bartoszewicz at Rootsweb, and it showed my posts, but most of the old ones. A search of the message board there for Naliboki is more effective. The posts by Gary are more recent, and the ones from 2004 & 2005 have my correct email address by clicking my name.

I read your posts and thought I might be of some help. The Ellis Island website is a great starting point. I know on some manifests there isn't much information, especially on those from 1906 and before. They only had 1 page. However, starting in 1907 the manifests had 2 pages, and when you view the manifest page, you are only viewing 1 page.

You'll know when you find these because the image will show information, but won't have the persons name on it. The way to view the other page is to click previous or next on the winow which says "click to enlarge manifest" This page has more information such as nearest living relative in the country the person immigrated from.

I did a search for Stolarz & found an Anna Stolarz arriving in 1913. I clicked to view the manifest, and since it's from 1913, it only showed the 2nd page. Information stated she was going to her husband Walenty Stolarz, Chicago. I closed that window & clicked previous, now it showed the page which has her name on the list as well as 3 children Boleslaw, Boleslawa, and Gustav. It states that the children where born in USA. Also lists the nearest living relative in Europe for Anna as her father, Jan Banasz, in Lukanowice.

It looks like Anna was visiting family in Poland (Galicia)and was on a return trip to USA.

I did a search on google for Lukanowice, and on a map it is very close to Biadoliny Szlacheckie & Biadoliny Radlowskie, which are in southern Poland.

The Ellis Island website has passenger manifests for 2 persons that may be of interest to you.

1st you want to search for Anna Topa. Choose the 1 who arrived in 1914 from Wach. Her destination was 168 River St. Haverhill Mass. Her brother-in-law Wiktor Wyze???bek was listed as living there.

For the 2nd, use this spelling of the name: Wiktor Wizrembek

Wiktor arrived in 1910 from Wachy, and his destination was 211 River St, Haverhill, Mass His brother-in-law Jozef ?????? was listed as living there.

Be sure to view both manifest pages for each of the persons above. On Wiktors other manifest page, he listed his nearest relative in country of origin as his wife Rosalya Wizrembek, in Wachy, Lomza

I typed in this spelling of the surname at Google, and it showed 26,000 hits, maybe it's closer to the original spelling.

I've been visiting a Polish website for some time now. They have been indexing parishes in Poland and are always updating their work.

I did a search for Eva Dziekanczyk and I think I found her indexed under births.

Maybe someone here who can read Polish better than myself can correct me if I'm wrong with the information that I provide. From what I read she was born in 1816. Place of birth listed as Cekcyn. There is an icon for notes, and I think it states that her father was Joannes Dziekanczyk and her mother was Rosalia Gruglowna. Also listed in notes are 2 dates Nov 21 & Nov 24(birth & baptism???)

The only ship lists that I know of are for civilian refugees (displaced persons) who were transported from camps in Africa, and some from Europe to UK. These lists are in the following link. They are not indexed, so one would have to look through each ships passenger list for surnames.

I know of an Antoni Klaczkiewicz, 1883-1953, and his wife Maria, 1884-1973. They immigrated to USA in 1951 as displaced persons. I think my great uncle Ludwik Bartoszewicz was their sponsor as their arrival manifest lists my great uncles address in USA. Was Antoni related to you?

I found the baptismal entry online for Andrej (1893) and also his brother Michael (1890) These records are from the area once known as Galicia, and are in Latin. The entries list parents names as well as grandparents names, and at far right in entry are the sponsors names.

Michael's entry has more information on grandparents names than Andrej's has, but the surnames are difficult to read

Family History Center usually refers to area research centers run by The Church Of Latter Day Saints (Mormons) They have microfilm records from all over the world. You have to order the microfilm at a local LDS research center, and once it arrives one can view it there. This is from the Family Search Catalog and refers to the microfilm from Derewno(their spelling)

1759-1900 records, Roman Catholic Church Derewno- Roman Catholic Church records (births, marriages, deaths) for Derevno, Oshmi︠a︡ny, Vilʹna, Russia; later Derewno (Stołpce), Nowogródek, Poland; now Dzeraŭnai︠a︡, Stoŭbtsy, Minsk, Belarus. Text in Polish, Latin and after 1848 in Russian.

As far as land records I have no answer. They may be in the archives in Belarus, or even in Lithuania. I do know of the area of Derewna and the villages to the north. My Bartoszewicz family came from Rudnia Nalibocka which is about 20 miles or so north of Derewna. If you are on facebook, there is a group you can join called "Polish Nowogrodek Family Ties" the members are persons who have family ties within the Nowogrodek region, with most having ties to Derewna, Jankowicze, Rudnia Nalibocka, Kamien, Naliboki . The group has over 200 members. Someone there may be able to give some ideas for your search.
