Witaaj!
I had a ćwiczenia in my Polish exercise book: to convert the object of the sentence into personal pronoun accusativus. And I and my teacher were disagree and I don't understand why I was wrong.

The sentence:
Andrzej myje samochód.
And we had to replace the word "samochód".
I used "tego", but my teacher said the correct replacement is "jego".
Andrzej jego myje.
But why??? Jego is the Acc. of On, but 'On' is a male person, a living thing, isn't it? So a "samochód" can only be "To", because it is not a person, it is only an... it.

To=It
On=He
Am I incorrect??

Language / How to say Merry Christmas in Polish? [66]

And are these sentences (Wesołych Świąt and Szczęśliwego Nowego Roku) in Genitivus? Because I thought these sentences have to be in Accusativus.

Hello!
Please help, I have some prefiks problem! They are very confusing...

Please tell me which prefiks we use in these sentences...

1) ....bierz ziemniaki na obiad! (po? I don't know...)
2) .....brałem pieniądze od mojego kolegi. (absolutely no idea...)
3) Ten kelner ....brał mnie już kilka razy. Zawsze dopisywał do rachunku. (don't even understand the sentence)

I know what it means literally, BUT I guess it has a figurative sense, hasn't it? Just because I heard it from Poles, and I don't really understand this expression...

Maybe it's a stupid question, but I really don't know when it is used... I know the forms of dwa, but not this one... only dwa, dwie, dwóch, dwaj and the like.

So... please someone explain me: what is this dwoje???

Hello, please help me! I don't really understand the declension of the adjective in this sentence:
Jem dzisiaj dopiero pierwszego hamburger.

Can somebody explain me why is this pierwszego, not pierwszy? I know hamburger is a masculine noun, and it's in ACC with its adjective, but I thought that adjectives get -ego ending only if the noun is a masc. living thing.

Genealogy / Lesowiaks - who are they? [6]

I found a short article about lesowiaks in a book about Poland, but then I haven't find a word about them on the internet. The book says that lesowiaks live in Kotlina Sandomierska, near Rzeszów. They are a small, proud and free ethnical group, who keep their old traditions. Kolbuszowa has a museum which can give a taste of their traditions.

But that's all, no more informations at all. If somebody could write me some more words about this interesting group, I would be much obliged.

I looked up the phrase based on... in the dictionary, and it said: oparty na (czymś). Then again, in a letter of a native Polish I found the expression oparty silnie o wiarę, o prawo boże.

Please somebody tell me which is the correct, the most common form!

not study during normal times but during weekends or evenings.

I don't really understand that, because I saw a plan zajęć and they had lectures from Monday to Friday.... :S

Can somebody tell me some words (only 1-2 sentences) about how Kochowski's name connected to the Polish messianism (or sarmatism)? I don't really find any sources about it, and I don't yet understand Polish enough to read original sources.

btw - I assume it's a school project? all this info you need. May I ask what's about?

I study polonystyka in the university, and I was preparing for the exam, that's why I needed help (there are a very few source to read so I'm grateful for your help).

Actually, I love Polish culture, it's so enchanting, and by the way don't you believe that these messianistic ideas existed only in Polish literature. You can fnd it the Hungarian, the Croatian, the Czech etc literature, and I think there's nothing wrong with it. In Central-Europe so much blood had been lost to protect Western European countries from Turkish threat. So this is truth that we were the defenders of Christianity. Anyway it's very interesting for me, how Polish people think about their own literature.

Yes I know this saying! :-D Polish and Hungarian history connect to each other at many points.

Off topic - I know Budapest a little but I remember two other places I've been to - Ash and Varpalotta.
