USA, Canada / Do many Polish people in America hate Americans? [592]

The 35-hour week is not everywhere in Europe.
In Poland there is 40 h. work week.
This actually allows you to better ballance work and private life and I find it better than the American "I work 2 shifts and still can't pay my bills" system.

Nowhere in my post did I say the Polish work week is superior, I just answered to the previous post about 35 h work week, I am sure there is more European countries where people work more than that.

However, even though Europeans work less than the Americans, the social and health care is so much better here and I get the general impressions that the wealth is more balanced in Europe - I've never seen so many poor, homeless people in Europe as I have in New York for example, this really shocked me.

thanks for making me laugh tj123!
In general, I definitely prefer the European model.
I work my 35 hours a week, get paid every extra hour I do, after my work, instead of going to another job, I can go to a café have a drink or two or spend the whole evening at a terrasse when the weather is nice and still I can pay all my bills, my rent, travels and plenty of other things.

Żyć nie umierać! Life in Europe is beautiful!

Life / Do expats living in Poland speak Polish? [233]

after some time spent in my host country (soon ex-host country) I can actually say that I master the national language pretty well, at least 1 out the 2 national languages - sorry Flemish!

I was wondering how many expats living in Poland speak Polish a little bit/quite a bit/well/ very well/perfectly...
And if you do speak Polish then how did you learn it and what do you think about it?

Polish vocabulary seems more limited. When I ask someone to translate something complicated for me, the Polish version often seems rather basic.

I disagree about the limited vocabulary, maybe the Polish version is basic because the people that translate don't master the Polish or English language enough. Translation is difficult and sometimes it is hard to find the right words.

Often when I am asked how to say something more complicated in Polish I just translate the general meaning 'cause I don't feel like making efforts - lazyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy....

interesting feed-backs, thanks!!!!

honestly, I really admire foreigners that speak Polish (even if it is just basic) because it seems to me that Polish must be very complicated to learn.

How do you deal with all the cases and genders? How can you actually learn it when you are not a native speaker?

If you live 1 month in Poland and don't learn na zdrowie you should get a prize or something.

agreed!
I think 1 evening is enough to learn na zdrowie ;)

Love / Polish girls attitudes towards sex. [568]

does that mean men are condemned to slappers, slags, gold diggers and sluts when we go to a bar??

no you are not. I disagree with Amaranta - it's not like only sluts and gold diggers go to bars and nice girls go to work and crochet in their spare time!

When a men meets a girl in a bar than I guess it's a question of intution to tell if she's nice or not. If you feel that there is something wrong with the girl you just don't continue the conversation with her, don't buy her drinks etc It's just like when you meet anybody new - the person makes either good or bad impression. If it's a good one then you will socialise with the person, maybe become friends and if it's bad you just don't...

Love / What do Polish Guys Like Women to Wear? [64]

Why do you hope they do?

I hope because I find them ugly, they just make me think of some Eskimo shoes and I can't believe that people pay a lot of money for such an ugly thing...

My last boyfriend thought they looked cute..he wasn't Polish but English-Cypriot...maybe Polish guys are way behind the rest of Europe?

since when liking Ugg boots determines whether or not you are behing Europe - what a silly statement....

I mean, if women have to go around looking like high class escorts or something?

Another silly statement. I don't like Uggs, prefer high-heels and nice clothes but I'm not some kind of high class escort!

They are hardly sexy but they are practical.

hardly sexy? They are all the contrary of sexy! They look so much like Relax shoes - the most popular winter shoes in communist PL.

They will make any foot look like elephant's.

Love / Polish girls attitudes towards sex. [568]

if she says 'well aren't you going to get me a drink then??' after we have been talking for five minutes, i'm afraid that is a bad sign!!!!!

it's a VERY bad sign - if it happens then that's when you turn around and run.
A well educated girl would never ask such a question. Not only is it rude but also humiliating to ask a guy that you've known for 5 minutes to buy you a drink - I'd rather die of thirst ;)

you must have some secrets to share,

secrets must stay secret - bez spóły ;)

The sense that western world and eastern world looks down on them?

looks down on them????!!!!! Maybe in your imagination.
If you think that this is why PL girls go out with Arabs/Pakistani/Indian guys than it means that you know absolutely nothing about social relations my dear southern.

Love / Polish girls attitudes towards sex. [568]

Then why is it like that? What is the reason?

one of many reasons is that these guys don't say such stupid things like "The sense that western world and eastern world looks down on them".

Unlike many western people, they don't have the complex of superiority you see, they don't look down on us but see us as equal.

As I said, this is just one of MANY reasons sourthern but you will never understand it as you are not a part of this particular milieu.

I write polish girls have the sense that westerners and polish look down on them, that is maybe why they go for third wordlers, you write ''these guys(the third wordlers) see us as equal''.So basically we say the same.

no southern we definitely don't speak the same language. I don't categorize people as being 1st, 2nd or 3rd worlders first of all.

Second of all I don't ever have the sense that westerners (certainly the first world class in your opinion) and PL (????!!!!) look down on me and I am a PL girl (certainly somewhere between 2nd and 3rd class in your classification).

Again, an Arab/Indian/Paskistani guys don't make such stupid statements so if I had to I'd choose someone who thinks in the good/bad people categories and not the one that thinks in 1st/2nd/3rd worlders categories.

As I said before, you are not a part of our milieu therefore it is perfectly normal that you do not understand some of our behaviours.

I cannot imagine anyone saying ''how can you be interested in me since I am a third wordler?''

I meant your statement about how the others look down on us. Obviously it is easier to socialise with people that don't despise you just because of your origin don't you think southern?

You don't know what milieu I'm talking about? It's funny because you think you know everything about PL people.
I mean foreigners southern, foreigners considered by the locals as being inferior, worse then them.

This is a question for those women away from home. Do you feel more inclined to have sex due to a feeling of liberation? Being away from home brings different chances and changes ones behaviour.

I think Seanus has a point here.
The feeling of being anonymous (abroad nobody knows you or your family) as well as lack of parental control definitely influences sexual behaviour of some people. Especially if you take young, naive people.
