TooBad, actually despite the high number of poles coming England has a much worse immigration problem with 3rd world occupants.

Every word is of that is rubbish.

Interest rates rose to curb inflation, immigrants help to curb inflation by working for less pay. So immigration kept those rates down.

Road taxes are not to finance welfare, they are to prevent gridlock, partly caused by a booming economy. Again, something the 600K new Polish immigrants are helping to fuel.

The NHS is doing better than ever before due to increased spending - its at less than half of the US's GDP %age but for the price the NHS is a bargain to the UK.

Tony Blair has NOT resigned, he's promised to retire. Not because of the 'situation' but because his own party (and the country) hate him for invading Iraq.

Um, wages are higher.
The average wage in the UK is now about £30K (about $58K) in London its much higher - about £45K. In Canary Wharf its averaging over £100K

Ok, they are a bit on the high side. London average is £41.8K. Highest burroughs average £72K and £74K. Canary Wharf isn't mentioned separately in this article, but with 50% unemployment and an average wage of 72K its obvious wages are extremely high, the figure I read in the printed paper was over 100K.

One anomaly is Kensington and Chelsea, thwere is now way average wages are 33K, it commonly held to be the richest place in the UK. It has 17 of the top 20 most expensive streets. And this news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/4319239.stm says average earnings are £65K over a year ago.

Ahh.. statistics..

these may be the official statistics.. but I dont think they are truly representative and may be misleading to some who might come here seeking work... it clearly also depends upon skills, qualifications and type of job. C'mon guys, stop quoting stats and get real.
If the average Pole turns up in London expecting to get a job earning £40K they are going to be in for a nasty shock.

Of course not. I'm just pointing out that a lot of people do get very high wages. If you are unskilled and uneducated its minimum wage, £5.35.

Everyone I know working in City type jobs are earning £60-80-100K for IT jobs, but they have 10years plus experience.

Well they should not be.

There are different levels of National Minimum Wage, depending on the age of the worker. The rates from 1 October 2006 are as follows:

* adults (which means people aged 22 and over) receive the full rate of £5.35 an hour (previously £5.05)
* a 'development rate' of £4.45 an hour is paid to workers aged 18 to 21 inclusive
* young people (those older than school leaving age and younger than 18, you're under school leaving age until the end of summer term of the school year in which you turn 16) receive £3.30 an hour

Apprentices under the age of 19 are not entitled to the National Minimum Wage. Apprentices who are 19 or over and in the first 12 months of their apprenticeship are not entitled to the National Minimum Wage.

Food / Barszcz czerwony recipe (Beetroot Soup) [48]

This is how my father made Barszcz.

Get fresh beetroot. Peel, dice.
Place in a large jar, add sugar yeast and cover with water.
Leave in a warm place for 10 days to ferment.

Pour clear purple liquid into a separate container, avoiding sediment.
Filter if nessessary (usually not required).

Heat chicken stock and add Barszcz concentrate to taste. Do not boil - it loses colour.

Server with fresh cream.

If you are me and its Christmas, add vodka as well.

I've never see any recipe like this elsewhere. Has anyone else heard of fermenting the beetroot?

thanks for this. I love that soup and would love to have a go... Im not sure where I would leave beetroot to ferment for 10 days though.. maybe an airing cupboard? Can you still make it the same way without the fermenting or is this absolutely vital?

I don't know if the fermenting is necessary. I've had Barszcz in Poland and even out of a jar bought in a local shop (yipee for all the Polish food now being sold) and I find it a bit bland and sweet. I better warn you - the yeast and sugar ferment violently and it will overflow easily. Staining everything so put it in capturing container.

I just wanted to post my fathers method because its quite different.

Just to be fair - there are actually still houses with no plumbing and outside toilets! My husband's distant family are one of them! It was really a shock when he took me to visit.

In US they always say: "Have a nice day" and smile when you shop. Never hear that in Poland. SHOCK!!!!

Yeah, but visitors to the US assume that they actually mean it.

Its a meaningless comment, they may as well say 'go **** yourself'

BTW, Ireland and other countries have added a tax of 10p or so on plastic bags to reduce the billions of bags that end up poluting the countryside. Free plastic bags at supermarkets are causing massive environmental damage in all countries, expect to pay for them in future - its not supermarkets being nice or nasty.

My friend imported his car from the US. He never drove it was so expensive on fuel he couldn't afford it. US cars also are generally to big for European roads and you are likely to get treated like crap for driving a obnoxious car. Two of my neighbours have 'I am a ****' painted on their BMW's...

Its obviously more lucrative to buy second hand in West Europe and ship to Poland. Anybody going to answer the question about registration and tax in Poland? I assume you can drive it as it is for a year or two, as many Poles do in the UK.

Most beer is good, except American and Mexican which are bland and tasteless. However, Continental Larger as we call most countries beers are just type of beer. Larger is drank because its basically tasteless and cold, there is little difference between Larger throughout Europe. If you had a blind tasting of every bottled larger in Europe you will be very unlikely to pick Polish or any other nations brew out (some of the best German beer, possibly excepted). They are mass produced for eas of transport and shelf life.

English Beer goes from anywhere from 3% to 12% (when its called barley wine). There are 2500 different ales brewed by 500brewers in the UK. If you go into a Uk bar and order Stella, Fosters, Heiniken or any other largers you are not drinking English beer. If you order beer purely based on its alcohol strength, then you are a peasant who no right to make comment on good or bad beer anyway.

Is there or is there a new sudden reporting of it. US hospitals simply hide the statistics, in fact MSRA is far more common in the US due to the over abuse of antibiotics that has been going on for decades. Nation figures show that but individual hospitals in the US are miraculously clean.

I read a report a few years ago, over 8% of samples sent to US labs had anti-biotic resistant infections, in the UK it was about 4%. With those sort of figures you can clean all you like but the patients are already infected.

It doesn't, however, swim through cold, disinfected water through swimming clothes (quite thick and with a gusset) and into a virgins vagina.

Sperm tends to be very, very welcome when its already inside said Vagina and ejecting from a pretty boys cock.

Last summer, I was invited to speak at the Economic Forum in Krynica, a resort town in Southern Poland. I was amazed at the level of economic activity and civic spirit that was on display throughout the country. I also was fairly surprised that my economic views, which are routinely ridiculed at home, have much wider support among the Polish economic officials who presented at the conference.
