Food / What's your favorite Polish beer? [870]

How about Redds? Its sweet and tastes like a cross between cider and beer... or is that just me?

Zubrowka... available in all good Turkish supermarkets in the UK.. for the hefty price of £15! much cheaper in Poland.. obviously

no problem..its great isnt it. not sure where you live, but you can also get it in some supermarkets and off-licences in the UK. Traditionally drunk with apple juice, ice and slice.. although Ive recently tried it with Bitter Lemon and Cranberry (not together), which werent bad either..

News / Polish Immigrants Leave America for Europe [210]

wow! I agree those figures are inflated. Of course there are high earners in London, but I would say the average wage was nearer to £20K.

these may be the official statistics.. but I dont think they are truly representative and may be misleading to some who might come here seeking work... it clearly also depends upon skills, qualifications and type of job. C'mon guys, stop quoting stats and get real.

If the average Pole turns up in London expecting to get a job earning £40K they are going to be in for a nasty shock.

News / Polish Immigrants Leave America for Europe [210]

Peterwerg, what you say is true and I agree that people shouldnt work for less than the minimum wage.. however the reality is that many do, as they are desperate for work. I know of people in th UK (mostly Poles) who work for less than £4 an hour. Im not saying its right, but there are always going to be ruthless employers looking for cheap labour.. and there will always be those who wish to avoid paying taxes and are therefore prepared to accept such low wages.

Food / Barszcz czerwony recipe (Beetroot Soup) [48]

thanks for this. I love that soup and would love to have a go... Im not sure where I would leave beetroot to ferment for 10 days though.. maybe an airing cupboard? Can you still make it the same way without the fermenting or is this absolutely vital?

Food / Barszcz czerwony recipe (Beetroot Soup) [48]

Peterweg.. your fathers method sounds like it would taste great, but Im thinking it sounds a bit messy and may seek another option. Thanks though, youve got me thinking about trying it out this weekend. Worried about cooking Polish food though.. as a non Pole it is never gonna match up to his (my partner) mothers is it.. could be a recipe for disaster :)

My dad used to make great Mulligatawny, but its not exactly Polish.

Love / DO POLISH MEN DATE OLDER WOMEN? [169]

If a woman is attractive she gets married and don't wait until "older age".

Says who? this is total rubbish, maybe in Poland its not common, but here in the UK I know plenty of gorgeous women in their 30s and even 40s who have never been married.. by choice! (and I include myself in that).. I am 4 yrs older than my Polish bf and its not an issue for us. However, some narrow minded family and friends (Polish) wonder why Ive never been married at my age.. its merely a cultural difference, nothing more.

Love / DO POLISH MEN DATE OLDER WOMEN? [169]

I am no expert, I only speak from experience that its not good to confuse the two. How old are you? I have had experiences with younger men, that were fun, but definitely lust..(although at times I thought they were love) Now Im in love (and lust) and I recognise the difference... guess it comes down to whether your relationship is based solely on sex or whether there is a deeper connection.

Love / DO POLISH MEN DATE OLDER WOMEN? [169]

everyone is different.. some will forgive and others wont.. my partner's wife would take him back tomorrow.. even though he left her for me and we've been living together for 18 months and seeing each other for 2 years. Personally, I wouldnt forgive because you can never forget..its always there at the back of your mind.

I think if you love some so dear you should do everything for them even if it means letting them go.

thats very true. Very very hard to do in reality, but you cant force someone to stay with you if they are no longer in love.. and who knows, they may come back to you...as the song goes.. if you love someone set them free.. Good luck to you Razz

well time is a great healer... it took me about 8 years to fully recover from a past relationship so I know how you feel.... but Im sure you will eventually meet someone new who is worthy of your love.

It hurt me more to know that I was the cause for his marriage to fall apart, but once I did I worked my hardest to get them back together.

Interesting comment. why would you want them to get back together?

I feel the same way, that you can't trust them. The games that they play. All I did for Mr. Gorgeous was show him how much I love and care for him and I played no games with him but that was just tooooo much for him to handle even though he is crazy about me. He had to play the games.

sorry if this sounds harsh but it doesnt sound like there is much trust in your relationship.. I am wondering why you want to stay with this guy if you are fearing he will leave you again?

I don't know maybe because I believe till death do us part. I felt guilty and it wasn't even my fault. He wanted to leave her and three kids and I wasn't going to let that happen.

OK thats fair enough..wont stop him leaving her for someone else though will it?

USA, Canada / Marriage laws: dual citizenship (Polish and US) preparing to get married to an American. [65]

want to applied to be british citizen

My bf was thinking about becoming a British citizen, but changed his mind as now Poland is in the EU you have the right to live and work in Britain, so why do you need citizenship? There is a comprehensive written exam that you have to pass (in English) on British history, culture etc..etc..this was brought in last year and is pretty difficult and if you pass that you can then apply, but there is still a lot of form filling and its not an easy process. I think you would have to give up your Polish passport too. Its therefore not really worth it unless you have another reason for wanting to do so (other than wanting to live and work here).

Love / Fell in love with a Polish girl, but find it difficult to approach her [620]

Ken Noddy, dont doubt yourself.. no-one is out of your league, imho if anything would put her off it would be more likely to be your lack of confidence rather than your looks.. although having said that some women find shyness endearing, definitely better than arrogance. Personally I dont think you should ask her outright if she is seeing anyone, that would put me off more than anything.. there is nothing wrong with trying to build a friendship first and you will then find that out naturally... although if you act very awkward around her then she will probably be aware that you fancy her. I dont know what kind of place you guys work, but she must have to speak fairly good English to work there.. no?

As for men and women being only friends.. my best mate is a guy and I have many platonic male friends, which I think is very healthy... sadly my bf doesnt see it in quite the same way.. but hey, thats Polish men for you. Anyway, whatever happens I wish you good luck.... believe in yourself and even if you dont get what you hoped for this time, I'm sure you will soon find someone lovely who reciprocates your feelings.. .Polish or not... but slagging off the local girls probably wont help.

Love / All Polish women can't be nutters can they? [257]

i have to say I agree with Moire on this one.. a good looking girl of 22 working in a nightclub in a foreign country is much more likely to be out for a good time with as many man as possible and take them for what she can get than to be wanting a serious relationship with a man in his 30s. She was clearly playing you and talking of love in order to get something from you.. sorry mate, but move on and never look back.. and as someone else said, if its a relationship you want, then dont base it only on looks.
