Love / Good looking Polish women with ugly men [416]

When all the good-looking guys are snapped up, what's a gal to do? Sometimes standards have to be lowered in light of the situation.

Underwhelming, is that a Bushism? It should be a word, really.

There are plenty decent-looking guys around, it's just a matter of proportion and subjectivity. The women have to take what's on offer or be forced to live a harder life carved out on their own.

Some girls just prefer those meathead types. They feel more secure and they trust in their partners to always be able to put good food on the table. Oh, and buy those expensive cosmetics.

Life / INVISIBLE MAN in shops and offices in Poland? [70]

Weighing 103kgs really helps :) That's presence right there :)

Maybe Poland needs its own version of Syd Barrett (RIP) to give their own rendition of Jugband Blues. It's a classic intro :) The song is available on the first page of the thread.

Geez, they drift around like zombies sometimes. Here was me thinking that they didn't smoke stuff but how they appear to me at times leads me to a different conclusion. The level of communication in some places is appalling. Thankfully, Poles are mixed and varied (more so than they'd like to admit). One of the places I work at is super and they all acknowledge you.

I really see where Wildrover was coming from with this thread.

This is a Polish phenomenon for sure. While the women are dolling themselves up, the men are shouting 'we want to be, Smiths crisps, we want to be.....'

UK, Ireland / The more subtle differences: Ireland/Britain v Poland [310]

How about some mulled wine? I wonder about the impairment level if you drink a little of that and an expresso.

Fried bacon comes with the full English breakfast. It's an integral component of it and shouldn't be skipped. Scrambled eggs are good anytime, esp in the morning with freshly squeezed orange juice.

News / Polish Foreign Ministry 'prepared' for new Wikileaks material [100]

A money spinner for the newspaper business, that's about it. It's about getting people onboard to a new form of low-key sensationalism. Still, hopefully some meaty morsels will seep through the cracks as some mainstream articles are so repetitive.

USA, Canada / CULTURE SHOCK! (of my Polish finance who visited the US) [210]

But still, let's take bureaucracy as an example. Is German bureaucracy really that different from Polish bureaucracy? A German guy told me that it's far worse in his country than in Poland.

USA, Canada / CULTURE SHOCK! (of my Polish finance who visited the US) [210]

Ah, I remember those early posts :) :)

Maybe with reference to those countries you mentioned, what do they have that Poland doesn't in terms of 'Westernness'? (other than they are Western, hehehe, bad joke).

Law / WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF THE EURO CURRENCY TO POLAND? [101]

This may all be academic soon enough. The future of the EURO lies in the balance. They will tinker with it for some time longer but I think an AMERO currency lies in wait somewhere down the line. They will do their best to make it a reality.

Life / Why Poland is "surprised" by winter and snow every year? [192]

It was -13 in Gliwice last night. I'm glad that the gritters are out on the roads but I'm disappointed that people who pay a decent chunk of tax can't get grit on the pavements/sidewalks. I would like to see some of my money go on putting ample grit down so that myself and many old people can feel safer about not slipping and ending up in hospital as there is plenty ice around. If you avoid the ice, the holes under the snow lie in waiting.

Life / How popular is Radio Maryja in Poland? [163]

They should invent a radio that automatically bypasses certain stations :)

Thanks, Seanny. Warning duly noted :) Maybe, they tried for that but it was already patented by another sectish horde.

Life / How popular is Radio Maryja in Poland? [163]

What's the frequency of RM, Delph? Just so I know to skip it. I guess it gets a large following in villages here. Those people, like Scottish teuchters, are numbskulls.

News / Will Komorowski be Poland's worst ever president? [72]

In order to evaluate him, we must be aware of the expectations of him by the broader population. To tell you the truth, I think Kommie could have a few days of vodka-fuelled madness and nobody would really notice the difference to his present activities.

History / Poland, Lacking External Enemies, Turns on Itself [106]

I would say so. Still, the internal battle in Poland has been inflamed by JK. He is losing his marbles a little and is quite confrontational. PiS are slowly rising in prominence but I think the sympathy for JK after Smoleńsk has worn off and they need a new face at the helm. His is not the face of modernity but at least he represents some resistance to those that will try and take Poland off down a wrong road.

History / Poland, Lacking External Enemies, Turns on Itself [106]

Poland does have an enemy of sorts in Lithuania. I do get the impression that many older Poles haven't given up their sentiments regarding Lithuania as largely Polish. Poles should understand Lithuanians as being sandwiched between Poland and Russia, 2 bigger powers. In the same way, Poland is sandwiched between Germany and Russia. Maybe that would be a good way to make Poles understand the feelings of Lithuanians towards them, that they broke away during the times of the CIS and they want to carve out their own identity as best they can.

BB, I'm not disagreeing with you at all. I keep saying this, we are guilty by association and not by beliefs when it comes to those you don't know. It's the same in all wars. You show the label and you are targetted. I was just making the point not to tar them all with the one brush.

Exactly, PennBoy. 0.07% are Muslims here and they can practise their faith unimpeded. If that figure were 7% then the boot may be on the other foot.

Poland just isn't that popular a country for terrorist cells, unlike Germany. Hamburg is a haven for the swarms. Poland has remained friendly to Muslims here and that doesn't look like changing anytime soon.

Law / DELL shifting ops from Ire to PL [30]

Business and ethics are not happy bedfellows, convex. I could give numerous lectures on what I learned in my first uni course and how it vastly differs in practice. We all throw good money after bad and are often not aware of it. The problem is, there are no courts which expressly rule on ethics.

Law / DELL shifting ops from Ire to PL [30]

Besides, businesses like Dell aren't looking for a pat on the back. They go to where they perceive profits can be accrued. Don't blame the Poles, blame the Jewish bankers and the Irish government for overextending.

History / Poland, Lacking External Enemies, Turns on Itself [106]

It tends to be the bigger powers that need enemies. NATO, as a collective entity with numerous big hitters, created one. The War on Terror was a masterstroke for those that wanted to further their own interests. However, a big difference is that Poland hasn't been singled out for a terrorist attack, unlike those that spearhead the campaign in Afghanistan.
