History / The ethics of buying PRL products. Tax? [4]

Merged: Tax in the PRL

Seeing Ziemowit's comments about how a retail tax existed in Poland before VAT, it made me wonder...

How did tax work in the PRL? I know the PIT was introduced in 1991 and VAT in 1993, but what existed before then?

Add this to the latest news that PiS are planning to shut the shops on Sundays, guaranteeing that people will lose money because they can't work while paying more in shops.

What does this "extra tax" mean?

Essentially, the plan is to stick a universal tax on all retailers regardless of size or whether they're offline or online, and the tax will be based on turnover rather than size. Obviously, it's going to be passed onto consumers - like the bank tax.

I have an account with them, but so far I haven't noticed anything by which the bank passed this tax on me as a client.

https://polishforums.com/news/poland-pis-impose-blanket-retail-tax-77028/4/#msg1526697

Here you go. There might be others - but for instance, ING has really ramped up the fees.

The poorest in society receive welfare from the government.

Clearly not familiar with Poland, are you?

It the (PiS) government can and is willing to do anything to help the weakest,

Instead, they plan to force the poorest to pay for television regardless if they own one or not, they plan to force a 2% extra tax on all retail sales and they've forced a tax on banks which the state-controlled (and by far the biggest bank) PKO have passed on to their clients. Not to mention the disgusting way that they massively increased the price of medicine for those that have received transplants.

They're doing nothing to help the poorest.

Taken from who delph ?

The poorest, so far. The plans for taxation so far all hurt the poorest in society the most.

Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day, teach a man how to fish and feed him for his life.

Quite. Unfortunately, education spending isn't a priority for this government.

History / "Poland's Concentration Camp" ?? [570]

are certainly eligible for a huge payout from the Polish government-in-exile's legal heirs.

Call it a hunch, but I think the current government accepts no responsibility for the Government-in-Exile's actions as it's legally a continuation of the pre-1935 Polish State and not the disgraceful post-1935 regime. I seem to remember that Poland had to recognise things like their medals/awards as it wasn't automatic, unlike the progression from the PRL to the III RP.

I always thought the Sikorski assassination theory was just another right wing crackjob theory, but when you learn about how he behaved then, it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if the Poles dealt with him themselves.

So in fact, you're getting worked up about (as usual) something about which you know nothing and don't have a leg to stand on.

I've just spotted this thread : secretscotland.org.uk/forum/m-1308564097/

1500 Polish officers on Bute alone. Unbelievable.

Boletus...didn't he post on here?

but they will moan and demonstrate if 1 percent is taken from them in tax to help the poor.

The problem is that the money isn't getting taken to help the poor. The money is getting taken to fund fat salaries for Party members. Let's also not mention how they want to give 500zł for the 2nd child onwards regardless of income - so that wealthy bloke in the big house down the road from you will have his green fees paid, while the elderly woman that was promised free medicine will get next to nothing. Oh, and that woman that can't work across the road because she's had a kidney transplant? Well, she's now paying a lot more for her anti-rejection drugs.

History / "Poland's Concentration Camp" ?? [570]

We can expect a lot of huffing and puffing as well as spurious denials from people who haven't bothered to read the facts.

Yes, this is absolutely certain. It's pretty clear that the author will be accused of being "Polonophobic" along with endless other insults by people that will read manipulated quotes online. I imagine there'll be some token protest from some fringe loony group in the UK as well.

Something that was pointed out to me a few hours ago - Sikorski was actually breaking the law of Poland by punishing homosexuals, as Poland had decriminalised it in the 1930's. If these camps operated under Polish law as is claimed, then it makes Sikorski a war criminal.

News / Demonstrations in Poland in defence of democracy. [2554]

Parents on Saturday usually do something with their children after they have worked a 40 hour week that the children enjoy like taking them fishing or building a snowman.

Sounds exactly the kind of thing that would've been written in Trybuna Ludu to discourage parents from attending Solidarność demonstrations. For what it's worth, I've seen quite a few happy kids at demonstrations here.

Only a self centered parent would be so abusive as to drag a child to a boring silly demonstration to get some fresh air.

"For democracy, any man would give his only begotten son."

Supporting your government is what children should be taught, as John F. Kennedy once stated: "Ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country."

Can't imagine many Republican parents encouraging their children to support the Obama administration. More to the point, JFK's words are true, but only if the government acts in your interests. This one is far more interested in destroying our interests.

but out here where I am Its; harder believe me (

I believe you, I've done plenty of travelling around Dolnoslaskie. It's exactly those poor people that we want to defend from a government that promised no tax increases and instead is going about taxing the living hell out of Polish families.

it can be dangerous....

KOD demonstrations are anything but. People are smiling and cheerful at them.

News / The shame of Duda making late night visits to Kaczyński [79]

They meet at night and so what? Maybe they were too busy during the day or maybe they are ... lovers and they are allowed to be ;)

:D

In fairness, can you imagine the great de Gaulle making a late night visit to any mere parliamentarian? They would get the call from and get straight in the first car to Élysée ;) If one wants to be President, one has to behave like one.

History / "Poland's Concentration Camp" ?? [570]

Sad (though entirely predictable) to see Bieggers over in Canada pretending it's "Soviet propaganda" on the basis that a contemporary Russian newspaper also reported it.

Thankfully, we at least have a credible approach to history that involves reporting the facts and not brushing things aside simply because it doesn't comply with the approved canon.

How much less than sod all does one need to know about Poland to think that there are yuppies in 35 cities in Poland?!

I'm loving the idea of Nowy Targ yuppies personally :D

Johnny : that's why demonstrations are on Saturdays, so that the maximum amount of people can attend. People do attend with children, because these demonstrations are peaceful and free of trouble/bad language/other things associated with pro-PiS demonstrations.

News / Adam Michnik awarded for integrity, professionalism and high standards. Poland's No. 1 fascist? [321]

... oh Ironside. How much are you being paid to say this stuff? :D

There's a link above that shows you how his "investigation" was actually blatantly copied from various authors. I know you can read Polish, so go ahead and look at the way that large sections were simply copied.

some unimportant lace

You mean the way that he presents meetings as being factual when instead, they're lifted straight from a crime novel? :D

If I was him I would sue those papers that pointed a finger at him.

I know you're a huge, huge PiS fanboy, but how can you honestly say that when the link above shows you exactly what he did? He plagiarised other books lock, stock and barrel!

Work / What is deducted from a salary in Poland apart from Income tax? [155]

Howvever, what gets me mad are all those messages: "I'll be paid 17,000 or 28,000 ZL netto per month, is it possible to live on that in Poland?"

I saw a message once on englishforum.ch where some guy was complaining because he couldn't live on 750CHF a day. Turned out that he had a very expensive mortgage in the UK to pay for, private school fees, flights to/from Geneva weekly and had to rent somewhere within 15 minutes of work. Madness.

These demonstrations will soon wear themselves out when the people see that they are accomplishing nothing.

The pro-government forces have been saying that since day 1. Hasn't happened yet. There have been some interesting changes over the last two weeks as well, so things should grow and grow now.

Careful delph, as you being a foreigner in Poland you may be arrested for promoting the overthrow of government,

Who is promoting the overthrow of government?

delph is still strange?

I take my inspiration from the Devetomartovski protest, Crowie.

Any crowd figures for the last series? Is this classified information?

Don't have it to hand, Polonius. A few thousand were reported on the day in Poznań, but I don't have exact numbers.

News / Do you believe that western Europe (ie EU) won`t punish Poland if Poland try to go out of EU? [44]

In Polands case accepting the euro would require a change in the constitution and 75% referendum vote (its highly unlikely that 75% of voting Poles would vote for such).

Where did you get the 75% number from? It doesn't exist in Polish law, and the EU would have strong words to say about a referendum that was rigged in such a way.

News / Is Jarosław Kaczyński the new Lech Wałęsa? [74]

Somehow no-one saw Kaczyński amongst the nocturnal conspriators of 1992

Are you seriously suggesting that a biased documentary is historical evidence as to whether someone was there or not?

Olszewski's government was a mess, and I'm not surprised that Kaczyński was manipulating things in the background to try and put together a viable majority in order to support Wałęsa. It was only afterwards that Kaczyński really started to fall out with him.

News / Is Jarosław Kaczyński the new Lech Wałęsa? [74]

So Kaczyński is apparently not as toxic and vengeful as the losers and trough defenders make him out to be.

Don't forget that Kurski's 'legitimacy' in the eyes of the right wing makes him a useful puppet at TVP.

Kaczyński was loyal to Olszewski down to the end.

Kaczyński wasn't loyal to Olszewski. That's the modern narrative, but the reality was rather different.

As for that journalist/writer Sumliński, the list keeps expanding.

It's all here - kompromitacje.blogspot.com/2016/01/sumlinski-plagiator-patologiczny.html

Essentially, the link goes into great detail about how he copied many of the works directly. It compares paragraphs and shows that he didn't even bother to significantly rewrite any of it. Like most of what PiS produce, it's cheap trash designed for the brains of those that are already brainwashed.

News / Is Jarosław Kaczyński the new Lech Wałęsa? [74]

Of course, Polonius conveniently forgets to mention that Jarosław was also heavily involved.

wprost.pl/ar/327090/Kurski-Kaczynski-skorzystal-na-upadku-rzadu-Olszewskiego/

Jaroslaw Kaczynski is presented today as an ardent supporter of the government of Jan Olszewski

It was the direct opposite. Olszewski was the Prime Minister on behalf of the Center Agreement, he was their candidate from Warsaw that took second place (first place was Kaczynski, and the third Glapiński). When Olszewski became Prime Minister, he began to build their camp at the expense of Kaczynski and his colleagues from the Center Agreement. He fought for the leadership of the party. Olszewski has not been able to build his government , because Kaczynski continually tried to take the initiative and build a majority.

As always with PiS, they have a strong habit of distorting the truth. As above...

(Those who love watching the lies of PiS might wish to note that Kurski is now boss of TVP)

One explanation - why PiS tries to trash Lech Wałęsa and others - is that PiS is trying to write its founding myth.

I think so too. They are a party built on hate, and that hatred comes out towards anyone that opposes them. I'm almost certain that if it was revealed that JPII said that Kaczyński was a poisonous individual, they would build some cult against him too.

History / "Poland's Concentration Camp" ?? [570]

I've just read the story now, and I'm gobsmacked. The common Polish narrative is that the Poles were treated somewhat with hostility in the UK, but now it turns out that they were putting political enemies in concentration camps even though Poland needed all the men they could get. Unbelievable.

Most ordinary Poles are sick of seeing KOD demos occupying half the evening news and fortunately the street nonsense is fizzling out.

Au contraire, Polonius. So far, 34 demonstrations in Poland for next weekend, plus quite a few abroad. Chicago is joining us now, which is very nice to see.

If the protesters want things to improve, let them get down to work and put their nose to the grindstone.

Why didn't you tell the PiS protesters that for the last 8 years?

History / "Poland's Concentration Camp" ?? [570]

Yeah I can see how British law works

No such thing.

If Poland had internment camps (or whatever you would like to call them) in the UK during WWII it would have had the blessing of the UK government, so completely legitimate.

There's nothing legitimate about detaining people based on their sexuality or ethnicity.
