News / German government tells journalists how to badmouth Poland [42]

A hundred potential Molenbeeks = nothing to worry about!!!!

Somebody pointing out that having 100 potential Molenbeeks in their country is not a good thing = ignorant fascist!

Liberal logic at its most refined.

What particular policies does the French government propose to prevent these neighborhoods from sliding further into anti-French ghettos?

News / German government tells journalists how to badmouth Poland [42]

What do you expect would happen if another million of Muslims come to the country :D?

The problem is many people have no real grasp of demographics or how math works in determing the make up of future populations.

It's not just the numbers, it's the demographic of the migrants (fighting age young men) vs the demographic of the destination country.

If current migrant inflow rates continue for the next five years there will be as many non-German muslim fighting age young men in Germany as ethnic German fighting age young men. Given differential reproductive rates (and the violence used to keep muslim women from marrying non-muslim men) it means a future Germany that is majority muslim and minority ethnic German. There's no getting around that except for changing current policies.

Ethnic replacement has taken place long before the new ethnic group is at 51%. But those who don't understand population trends can merrily pretend there are no problems until they find they aren't in control of their own country anymore.

And who knows more about French cities, the French minister of urban affairs? or some random poster on polishforums? Of course it's the poster!

metronews.fr/info/video-une-centaine-de-quartiers-comme-molenbeek-en-france-patrick-kanner-fait-polemique/mpcA!mg9Wyqj6MAc/

(the minister claims, unlike those with a real personal connection to France, that there are many neighborhoods like Molenbeek in France, his ignorance must be breathtaking!)

News / Demonstrations in Poland in defence of democracy. [2554]

SHe cannot publish an illegal decision.

If she can stand by and support the destruction of the rule of law in favor of rule of party (PRL style) then she clearly has no ethics whatsoever. Nor does anyone who supported PiS's gutting of the constitution.

It does not say the TK is free to follow an outdated law that has since been amended.

Mumbo jumbo in the very best Jerzy Urban tradition!

A simple, simple question. If the parties were reversed and PO refused to swear in three justices chosen by a PiS dominated sejm you'd be completely okay with it? Right?

hence the TK violated the constitution itself, which they are obliged to uphold, when they came on deck one-short of the required 13-person quorum.

Refresh my memory, where does the constitution say a 13 person quorum is necessary?

News / How would Poland change for the better (or worse) under a PiS government? [257]

So, the good changes of PiS have been:

- to alienate younger voters by making them feel fooled and lied to (by hiding the toxic elders during the campaign and then bringing them out of their support pods the second the election was over

- to alienate the sane by their morbid need wallow in Smolenks forever (because they need Poland to be endlessly victimized by foreign powers)

- to alienate women by telling them their lives are worth less than rapists

Who are they going to alienate next?

But when it doesn't suit them, they ignore the law or like you start talking about nittering or some much.

Stop playing stupid (if you can). I think everything is moot until Duda the Dud swears in the judges he was ordered to. Nothing that has happened since then makes any sense. PiS decided to destroy the constituion and you support them. Own it.

News / Demonstrations in Poland in defence of democracy. [2554]

Indeed, article 7 of the constitution

Why quote the constitution when it is no longer in force?

The binding law of the land at the time of the TK's ruling mandated a 13-member judges panel

Again, the actions of your idol JK have resulted in the constitution being in abeyance, nittering about 12 or 13 members is disingenuous or downright stupid or evil. Which are you?

Go back, appoint the three judges that were constitutionally and legally selected by the previous government and add two and we can talk about Polang being governed by the rule of law. It is not at present, it is the rule of party, just like the good old days of your beloved PRL.

The whole scene is obscene!

which is why you write about it so often! Just go out and hire a sex worker or two (I promise not to judge) and calm down and stop posting about it so much....

This thread will be closed if it doesn't get back to the topic in the thread title

, that's why PiS are such a godsend for Poland -- the only party actually raising such questions as economic and industrial sovereignty

And they'll do away with all that pesky inequality and incipient prosperity and take Poland back to the equalitarian days of the PRL!

Love / Turkish girl is going to meet her Polish boyfriend's family - needs tips. [47]

Let me here paraphrase one old song and make suitable for this thread

You're one nasty little guy, you know that? No wonder the words "crazy" and "Serbian" appear together so often. If you really cared about Serbia you wouldn't be shaming it with your unhinged ranting.

Language / How many tenses and cases in Polish? [33]

Tense and aspect apply to verbs.

Case applies to nominals (nouns and thinks like nouns).

There are two broad aspect categories in Polish and almost all verbs fall into one of them.

Imperfective - describes verbs as they happen: czytać - to read (be reading) not necessarily finishing

Perfective - describes verbs from when they end: przeczytać - to read through, finish reading

Imperfective verbs have a present, past and future tense as well as a conditional/subjunctive form and imperatives.

Perfective verbs don't have a present tense (what looks like a present tense is actually a future tense) but they have the others

The trick of Polish verbs is learning how to replace imperective verbs with perfective ones when necessary and vice versa.

In some other languages you change the tense and/or aspect while in Polish you change the verb.

I seem to remember a similar scene in a mid 90s tv series with Zbigniew Buczkowski, maybe Jest jak jest....

The US have managed just fine without any extra TK when they've got a proper High Court.

KŁAMCO (you liar!)

the TK is much closer to the US supreme court than the Polish Supreme Court which already has a very different job to do and which has nothing to do with the consitution. You just want to destroy any constitutional checks and balances to enable the lawless regime you so pathetically support.

KŁAMCO!

Language / Wishing someone to "have fun" in Poland [11]

wish to Congratulate them on their achievement so far but also for them to enjoy themselves at their new job.

Yeah, I thought it might be something like that. I don't think Polish people make an automatic connection between 'job' and 'enjoy' or 'fun'. It makes more sense to wish your friend success (powodzenia) or just 'all the best'

Gratulacje i wszystkiego najlepszego w nowej pracy! (congratulations and all the best in [your] new job!)

The native speakers will probably come up with something better.

The Romans called it reductio ad absurdam, the last resort of those who run out of cogent arguments.

Like those that blame the RT and Michnik for all their problems?

Life / Is it safe for Indians, Sikhs living here in Poland? Any Temple / Gurudwara in Wroclaw? [159]

Poland is not safe if you wear turban

To the extent that most Polish people don't know or care what a turban is and some will think it is a muslim thing and most people are not.... enthusiastic about the idea of muslims coming to live in Poland (catch the news today from Brussels to know why).

we have to look for trade off between religion and employment.

Life is a series of trade-offs and a series of choices.

Pretty bad choice if they have to choose between being assaulted in Poland and breaking one of the most important tenets of their religion

It you're referring to niqab, it is not required (it is in fact prohibited during the hajj).

If you're referring to turbans and if they are one of the most important tenets of Sikhism (how odd), then weighing the benefits of following the religion and following employment opportunities is a legtimate trade off.

wearing cross as a sign of religiousity is a quite new "invention

Yeah, I have no problem with making Christians concealing the cross while performing a civil service job in a secular state (or private employers requiring them to be hidden).

The wonderful thing about multiculturalism is that you end up with least-common-denomiator results that please no one.....

Language / Wishing someone to "have fun" in Poland [11]

Colloquially people would tend to say: Baw się dobrze!

At the same time they're offering congratulations? I dunno....

"Have fun" is much more general and less specific than baw się dobrze which ime is said to people going to a party or going out on the town, usually it's limited to a specific situation and not a kind of general good wish (which it can be in English).

Would "Gratulacje i Życzę dobrej zabawy!" sound right?

I'm not a native speaker but that sounds very weird to me, without knowing more context. Please supply more context....

but the worker faction in Solidarność would have settled for no democracy and the benefits of the nomeklatura.

that would explain why those who... failed to thrive after 1989 were so bitter....
