News / Streets closed in Warsaw during NATO summit [146]

Whether you agree with it or not, I believe he brought up the TK issue because the West feels that it the situation here doesn't agree with the ideals espoused by NATO--Democracy, freedom etc

Yes, he was right to do so and spoke the truth.

Study / Turkish guy to study at a university in Poland. Is that problem for Polish people? [139]

How much of your own time and your own money do you spend each day in these Turkish bars, clubs, mosque, and vague claim of "much more."

Each day? When you're old enough to drink I would hope you don't spend money in bars 'each day' and I can tell you right now how much money I spend in mosques. The same as I spend in churches " each day"; a big fat zero.

So why do you?

That's probably the weakest attempt st rhetoric yet seen in this forum; and there is heavy competition!

Again, if you actual lived in Poland and knew Poles and understood Polish thought

Well, Cartman, some oc is have lived here longer than you have been alive. You have never even been to this continent; you don't speak the language, you don't have any direct experience of things Polish...

Yet you try to bully that fine Young Turk who will soon have more in common with Poland than you ever will be able to aspire to.

And your bleating rants are pure comedy..,

Travel / Polish LOT class "U" ticket cancel [4]

Yes, much the same, the 'letter codes' don't quite relate to ticket conditions as much as they used to.

Your rants are actually hilariously funny; it's clear you know nothing about either country: the Turkish community in Poland, in Warsaw there are bars, clubs, the Turkish Mosque and much more.

At last count less than a decade ago the foreign population among them was barely above 40,000

Dangerous to rely on the Internet; however lacking personal experience of either Poland or Turkey I suppose that's all you can try to do.

There is no "Liberal" current

Haha!

But you could only know this if you actual lived in Poland

Longer than you've been alive, boy...

I invite you to come and visit us one day.

News / Streets closed in Warsaw during NATO summit [146]

Well it's a symbolic deployment everyone knows this cannot stop the russian army but thats all that is needed I would say.

Spot on. This is symbolic but needs to happen.

Needless to say Mr. Putin is not very happy about this.

It does seem to be escalating, and expulsions of diplomats is never good.

Poles being "racist"

Some are most certainly racist as you would know if you had any connection to or understanding of Poland. Check out the CBOS data (you'll have to translate it since you don't speak Polish).

and don't worry there is an English version on the webpage for you to use!).

Useful for you, no need for me to read an English version.

Union of Lublin which saw the creation of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth now regarded as the First Polish Republic.

Very good indeed, Bieggers, that you are extolling the Liberal current within our society and rejecting the conservative and nationalistic tendency - looks like you're finally beginning to grow up a bit.

The OP however should not worry. He sounds young but I'm sure he'll cope.

BTW, have you ever been to Istanbul? A gloriously multicultural city.

The rest of the dead weight should be tossed out of NATO until they pony up their share for protection against Russia.

Spot on. It isn't a free ride; it's the security of the free world.

News / Polish flag in dog sh*t + the "Imperium" movie [37]

PiS have bigger fish to fry

Destroying the country's democracy for one.

Amazing how TVP censored the US President's speech today...

mafketis]That's like saying they're prying the country free from ice zombies and dragons, it's all fantasy....[/quote]
Bingo. Whereas the fascist pseudopatriotic marchers waving flags are all too real and encouraged by leading figures in the PiS regime.

Well then maybe they should grow some balls and stand up to the Polish fascists that are using the flag during their marches.

Very well said, and I don't see many politicians condemning the nationalists and other assorted fascist scum waving the flags while rioting.

It's depicted in lots of films and if fascists wave it in front of cameras during their riots and that is allowed, tough sh1t for them if that footage is used.

Polish right-wing butters never, ever, ever use the Polish flag

Ever. If the nationalistic wingnuts with their shaved heads and masks didn't want to film footage of them with flags, they shouldn't have been waving the flags in front of to cameras.

Life / Should I expect racism as a 'black' woman in Poland [149]

Poland has become more European and tolerant, things are certainly moving in the right direction.

Amen.

I can't relate to anyone who judges someone by the colour of their skin, by the origin of their surname, by their religion, their culture, their sexuality, their gender, their appearance, their whatever.

As Robert Burns said, człowiek to człowiek w każdym bądź razie...

I suspect it will still slow things down a bit though, and a cars with foreign plates are most likely to be targeted by the bizzies

History / Poland in WWI [38]

As far as I remember, I was taught at school that WWI resulted from the rise of nationalisms across Europe...

Sort of. Historians have been arguing ever since about the causes of WWI and there has never been a consensus.

Germany was certainly arming itself and preparing for war for around a decade. Germany and Austria probably suffered the most afterwards with the loss of both monarchies, Austria losing an Empire and Germany suffering the revolution of 1919 and decades of misery to follow.

News / Streets closed in Warsaw during NATO summit [146]

Here's a map of the roads closed to traffic (and pedestrians too should expect extra security) in Warsaw during the NATO summit. The road to the airport will also be periodically closed and they've advised people to travel there by train.

Worth remembering that if you're in the city centre it's a good idea to carry ID - the police will be doing spot checks

Personally, I'm staying out of the centre, enjoying the sun on the terrace ;-)

Here's some info about parking in the city centre: basically, don't. Thousands of parking spaces have been removed so the ones left will be taken early.

so I would imagine that Kraków will be very busy indeed.

Also Schengen is suspended so the will be border checks, plus much increased security within Poland and yes, Kraków will be incredibly busy.

History / 60th anniversary of the Poznan uprising! [60]

. I remember hearing Beata Szydło making that promise in front of TV cameras. But that was before the election took place.

She made it as an official PiS candidate for the post of PM in the hope of attracting voters who were inclined to vote PiS, but were very much afraid of Antoni Macierewicz

She did make that promise. She broke that promise and now (as in the Poznan fiasco and many other issues) we are seeing the damage.

UK, Ireland / Why English do not like Polish? [417]

If there were no emigrants, benefits would be cut and some locals would have to do it. Just survival n

That didn't happen before. In many towns the number of vacancies for low-paid jobs exceeded the number of unemployment benefit claimants.

Plus a pool of cheap labour enabled some companies to expand.
