News / Amber Gold and other Poland's suspicious institutions [139]

Come on, don`t dig into it, there is a chance that at least apes and big cats will be happy and won`t complain and curse the fraudster.

So far, it is the local Tax Office which has to return 11 million PLN which had been paid by the fraudster as tax from profits which never existed.

Sorry, Pawian, no furniture made of particle board can be regarded as quality furniture. And Black Red White have all their stuff made of that.

Yes! :):):):)

But....

isn`t it possible to have particle board quality furniture versus poor one?

except that you need at least 2 gorgeous women stomping on grapes in a large bucket.

Yes:

I do wish youz'd all get over me being an annoying poster and start a thread about making wine. :)

I won`t do it. I am too shy. Besides, there are too many threads of mine in the forums already.

Off-Topic / Loading a photo of Poland from your mobile/cell phone takes 30 seconds, come on! [86]

On Sundays I do voluntary work for a widow with autistic adult son. My duties: walks on sunny days, petty repairs in home, bathing and shaving, feeding supper. Little loans from time to time as the woman has had problems to make ends meet. It started in 1997 through church aid group and I have been loyal since then.

I took these photos today to immortalise the condition of her flat which is going to undergo a little alteration.

Good idea for comparison:

Spirit, 0.5 litre - 40 PLN - 8 pounds.

Yeah I used to make my own wine,

Buddy!!!

perhaps I wasn't too good at it

Taste is in the mouth of the keeper.

ou can buy better wine for not much more than home made

But you never know what they put into it. When I make my own, I use only spring water and fruit from the greenest regions of the country.

Delph, to be honest, I never thought of it. It isn`t too interesting as you can buy all kinds of wine today.

But I have always prefer(r)ed to make my own. I produced my first wine when I was 15. OMG, it was so long ago. I have experimented with all kinds of fruit, even melon and vegetables like beetroot. :):):):):)

Three days before the start of the preparation of wine, prepare a yeast on the package.

Beets scrub thoroughly and preferably without peeling, cut into slices. Put it into a large pot, cover with water and cook until soft. Strain decoction through a cheesecloth. Prepare the syrup, out of 1 kg of sugar, a little water and lemon juice, cool, mix with beet concoction. Add yeast, cover and let stand for 24 hours in a warm place. The next day, pour into the dish, stopper with a fermentation tube, to which should pour a little water. Leave to stand for approx. 2 weeks in a warm place for fermentation. After this time, add the syrup quenched with a 1/2 kg of sugar, and one week after another 1/2 kg of sugar in the form of a syrup. After the fermentation, or when the water in the tube stops bubbling, pour the wine into bottles and allow to stand for 2 - 3 months.

This wine has a flavor the better the longer it stands,.

My mate buys a lot of sugar for the bees, about £1 for 1.2 kilos in poundland

That`s an excellent bargain.

Buying 10 kilos of sugar can only mean feeding bees over the winter or wine:):)

Bullseye!

d

Walnuts are very expensive here but people really only buy them at Halloween or Christmas in small quantities.

Interesting info.

I get a lot of favours (usually wine) cos I give kilos of stuff away

Do you own a large strawberry field forever?

History / Polish Royal Bastards [23]

only a dummy considers the Norman blip to be the founding fathers of England. They brought nothing new to these shores beyond a few poncey French terms for bits of animals.

Really? I thought that Normans breathed new life into complacent Anglo Saxon couch potatoes and thus a modern English nation was created which ruled half the world for a few centuries.

Orthodox these days to refer to him as William the Bastard apart from in school books aimed at small children :)

Exactly. My first contact with history school books was in 3 grade primary, when I started reading my elder sister`s books.

The word "bastard" sometimes seemed like a badge of honour.

Yes, but never in conservative Poland. :):):):)

Polish word for bastard is considered offensive. When someone is called bękart, it is intended to hurt.

News / Children licking cream off a Polish priest's legs "inappropriate" says NGO [116]

doubt very much if first year students would come up with anything like that to 'welcome' themselves to high school, and if it's older students passing on traditions, then it's essentially institutionalised bullying and humiliation.

You seem to miss one important thing. In today`s world, many young people like being in the center of attention, even if it is a rite of passage connected with silly games.

I don`t think anybody was forced to participate in that high school freshmen celebration. If you look at all the pictures on the site, you can see that most students are sitting along the walls while only the volunteers take part. They wanted to have their 5-minute fame in life, that`s all. I suppose that they soon became celebrities in their school, recognised in corridors and asked out to parties and dates.

And the school is fully aware of those desires and allows to fulfill them. Simple.

If there was coercion, bullying and humiliation, the scandal would have erupted in 2009 already. Half naked boys, with make-up, some dressed as sexy women, exposing bras, running all over the school, in front of teachers???? :):):):)

Guys, it has just occured to me! That priest must be a pervert, indeed!

He is wearing sandals and socks!!!!

Yuk!

Law / The cost of vehicle tax in Poland ? [5]

There isn`t such tax in Poland.

Or there is but included in the price of fuel so you pay it at a filling station when you buy petrol/diesel etc.

But you have to pay insurance and the cost varies depending on your car`s capacity, age, your driving history, your age etc etc. And the choice of insurance company also matters. I pay 800 PLN at one company but would have to pay even 1400 at another for the same car.

UK, Ireland / Pakis VS Poles in the UK [62]

Pakis

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ethnic_slurs#Paki

(United Kingdom) used as a derogatory term directed towards South Asians (and sometimes Middle Eastern people), it is usually considered offensive when used by a non-Asian in the UK.

Why Pakis?lol I would say Irish VS Poles in the UK would be more appropriate.

What about Poles vs Aliens?

Come on. Don`t get on Wroclaw Boy`s nerves. He might turn against you and make your life miserable.

PS. BTW, should we be grateful to WB for not saying Pakis vs Pollacks?

News / Children licking cream off a Polish priest's legs "inappropriate" says NGO [116]

I'm about to propose banning them in my school, although we don't actually have any. I don't like them and don't believe that children have free will where they're concerned - so a formal ban on them should deal with that ;)

I would go for a ban on that sort of shite if I had anything to do with the running of a school, deffo.

Sorry, guys, but those amusing rites in Sierpc high school have been prepared by students themselves who just wanted to have fun.

I remember Paul Newman quoting someone - "behind every practical joke is an element of malice".

Yet, it doesn`t prevent us from playing practical jokes on our brethren, does it?

Look closely at those pix, you can actually SEE his erection.

Ehm.... do you really believe that a man`s navel can get erection? ????

Initiation rites: at the seaside: rebelya.pl/forum/watek/54248/

Scouting rites:

Uni fresh students` initiation rites at a student camp:

rites in boarding schools:

Traditionally, the most zajebiste initiation rites of passage are organised for first year students in Polish high schools. I especially liked this one in Sierpc:

Games, theatricals, dances, cabaret, costumes, topless. Crazy fooling around but no knee kissing. :P:):):)

I hope the recent scandal won`t put a stop to such traditions in the future......

I suppose most Lublinians would comment it as: bare truth.

They are waiting for the Brits to come and teach them how to have fun in life.

An as a priest he should certainly have known better.

Yes. Priests have been in the public eye for a few years and should know that.

Such mouth- knee-touching games look not only suspicious, but first of all, I already said it, may be quite humiliating for some students.

Fortunately, other priests are able to see there is a problem and call such behavior cretinism.

I am absolutely amazed that he was stupid enough to give such ammunition to those that oppose Church interference in schooling.

Actually, it is a Catholic school and the guy involved is its head teacher/director. It is a norm globally, that every year parents fight to get their kids to such schools and only the best and very good students are accepted and still feel extremely lucky. That was probably the reason why the head priest felt so unconstrained.

Life / Polish vs British vs American - Clash of cultures [390]

stiff = penile erection

Yes, it is the same in the Polish language. :):):):)

Yes, you are right, the guy in the photo wasn`t stiff.

Adult class at uni. Doing exercises in an English textbook. Two groups. Both propose "must" as a right answer to fill in the blank:

Foreign languages are necessary. You ........... learn at least one.

while the key suggests: :"should."

Poles are stricter than the British?

Life / Typical for the Poloniandists [171]

Sadly all of this british nonsense on PF boils down to jealousy. They are failures - they have failed at finding meaningful employment in the UK and therefore chose to leave for a foreign country to teach english.

Come on, going to another country and settling there for good is far more difficult and requires much more guts than staying in your own, no matter what local difficulties you experience..

This gives them a sense of accomplishment and puts them in a position of power,

Why not? I suppose that after so many years here, they are already running language schools ..... :):):)

Life / Polish vs British vs American - Clash of cultures [390]

Of course, I didn`t mean any of these:
n. Slang
1. A corpse.
[..]
3. A drunk.
4. A person: a lucky stiff; just an ordinary working stiff.
5. A hobo; a tramp.
6. A person who tips poorly.

I meant

4.
a. Rigidly formal.
b. Lacking ease or grace.

2. A person regarded as constrained, priggish, or overly formal.

UK, Ireland / Polish Biker condemned over 103mph wheelie in the UK [15]

It's dusk here.

Sorry, just looked at yuor profile, I thought you are from Ireland. :):):)

I thought you were persona non grata on WB's threads?

No, quite the opposite. I am as welcome on his threads as he is on mine.

Besides, I do enjoy his picturesque descriptions:

Its really easy to get carried away with a machine of major power vibrating between your legs,

its a rush, the faster the better, the more crazy the better,

When I read it, I really see those crazy scenes in my mind`s eye.
