UK, Ireland / Poles revealed to harbour deep hatred against Anglos when they speak in their own language [62]

The thing is the only thing that can save the EU is shock therapy (like the UK actually leaving), staying in will only make its final collapse worse and messier (and possibly more violent).

The EU in its current form is completely not viable and the isolated elite don't realize that yet (or do and just want to milk the cow till it collapses).

The Italian referendum in December may make it all moot...

A lot of legal arguments and political discussion about whether or not they actually can trigger that at all

What part of "a majority of voters voted for the UK to leave the EU" do you not understand. The job of politicians is not to second guess or try to undo that decision but to implement it. If Scotland and Northern Ireland want to fo their own way and remain then godspeed and see how _they_ like living without monetary transfers from England.... (and the end of free border travel should they be daft enough to want to join Schengen).

News / Corporate-linked EC attacks Poland's retail tax; govt suspends collection [74]

PIS can't write laws properly or understand their international obligations

And are too busy going on witch hunts, following legislative dead ends and appointing unqualfied people to actually do the job they were elected to (which is job creation).

Unles PiS policies start producing employment soon the public will move away from them (like most youth voters already have).

It also looks like many of the people who voted for Brexit now regret it.

You mean part of the largest number of British people to ever vote for anything?

I'm sure many who voted against it now wish they'd voted in favor.

Really, honestly, apart from purely financial reasons, what are three good reasons for the UK to stay in the EU?

What social political benefits do they get being in that they can't get being out?

Under what conditions would you support leaving?

If you're in favor of democracy, you're still in favor of it even when you don't like the choices voters make.

Well the UK has to leave if the EU is ever to get better.

The vote should have been a wake-up call for Brussels but it wasn't. Instead they're doubling down on the very rhetoric that helped Brexit win and making it look like a better idea every day.

At this point, unless major changes happen in Brussels the UK remaining in the EU would be a major blow to democracy and human rights.

News / Poland -- Europe's only counterweight to Russia [271]

but (((Gazeta Wyborcza))) will never expose them =

I think you forgot Beniamin Kalkstein = Jarosław Kaczyński...

Just as the DDR (GDR, NRD) was made up of people spying each other, it seems that Poland is in all actuality a bunch of Jews hiding their Jewish identities from each other. Who'd of thunk it?

News / Poland -- Europe's only counterweight to Russia [271]

I wouldn't believe it. Most polls showing him ahead are unduly balanced towards Demcorats _and_ he's always done better at the ballot box than at the polls.

What's amazing is that he's shown how out of touch the traditional Republican CW is and the party is learning _nothing_ from this.

My personal opinion is that he will probably either not win or not be allowed to win. On the other hand, my gut feeling is that he is not an end in and of himself but a beginning and the longer the political establishment fights him the worse it's going to be for them when it reaches critical mass.

It's the same thing in Europe, the currently ascending populist parties* that the establishment is frantic to keep out of office aren't that extreme - the real extremists will show up when it's clear that there's no way for the emerging nationalist populist movements to work within the system and then all hell will break loose.

Oddly, although PiS is sometimes included in that group I don't think they are and don't think there is a similar group in Poland (yet). As much as post PRL losers hate them, they're only slightly less nationalistic than PiS and the globalist-nationalist divide has yet to really hit in Poland and it might not ever happen unless the EU succeeds in importing vast numbers of non-European migrants which I don't see happening.

News / Poland -- Europe's only counterweight to Russia [271]

Russian majority in Crimea represent native population

No. They represent a colonizing force. The native population are the Crimean Tatars who Stalin killed and deported en masse after WWII

In true Russian propaganda fashion, their history is neglected or covered over.

Crimean Tatars by a strong majority preferred to live in Ukraine where they were treated with dignity rather than Russia, a traditional oppressor (and Russian oppression against them continues).

Love / I'm a Polish girl (my boyfriend is British) and I'm proud [58]

The Irish are not British

But Ireland is one of the British Isles, is it not? What adjective can be used to include residents of the UK and Ireland (as well as the Crown Dependencies)? Maybe British Islers?

Law / How will the Zloty be against the British Pound over the next 6-12 Months [45]

People start to make wrong choices in the phase of decline and so do the British (Brexit decision).

I think Brexit was absolutely the right choice. It does sadden me, but the EU has goven seriously wrong over the last 5? 10? years and the UK had no chance whatsoever of changing it since it's now devoted to the idea of rule by technocrat and not anything like democracy (direct or indirect).

If it doesn't radically change course soon the only options for any country will be stay and accept unlimited rule from Brussels or leave and for Poland the best option then will probably be 'leave' (before the country is forced to drink from the poisoned chalice of the Euro).

I like some of the ideas behind the EU but in its present horribly dysfunctional form? Not really.

chopped off a portion of it

Kosovo was functionally chopped off long ago by the Serbs themselves who didn't want to live there and moved away leaving a vaccuum that Albanians filled.

That would be Iraq Libya and Syria

True. Those were all terrible ideas and technically they were neocon plans. Neocon policy is noted for always producing terrible results (and neocons themseleves learning nothing from their shameful record of failure).

News / Poland -- Europe's only counterweight to Russia [271]

here is nothing more stupid than this irrational fear of Russian feeded by western media .... The risk is not Russia. It wasnt russians raping woman in Cologne

But it was Russia that recently invaded a sovereign nation, chopped off a portion of it in a phony election and continued to supply soldiers and munitions in support of military aggression against the country (including shooting down an airliner).

The latest theory is they intended to shoot down a Russian airliner full of returning tourists and this was going to be the reason given for a full scale invasion of Ukraine and annexation of most of it. They missed the timing and shot down the wrong plane though.

Saudi Arabia is a terrible place run by miserable evil excuses for human beings. But the Russian state has been and continues to be a menace to all countries near it.

News / The Polish film director Andrzej Wajda has died. [4]

A true artist and the most well-known Polish post WWII film director. He will be missed....

My favorites (apart from Ashes and Diamonds) included Kanał (Sewer) the Panny z Wilka (the Maids of Wilko) and Człowiek z Żelaza (Man of Iron) I know that Man of Marble is technically a better film but there's something about the second movie that's... intoxicating, capturing a moment when change seems reachable and impossibly distant at the same time.

Law / Major Issue with Poland's Residence Card! I have Polish wife, but no job, passport, I'm seeking for asylum. [9]

I want to know if I can apply for the normal residence permit without a passport.

Nothing anyone can tell you here is liable to be accurate (except by chance). You need to go to the immigration office (take your wife to interpret) since only what they say will matter. Also Polish legal regulations are at times ambiguous and sometimes offices in different cities interpret the rules differently so again, only believe what your local office tells you.

Law / Ex-Girlfriend in Poland and Personal Debt [7]

But her sister has told me that my now ex-girlfriend says she owes me nothing

That is by far the most common attitude of Polish women after a breakup. Even if there are signed agreements they will simple ignore them, assuming you cannot collect on them, especially if they are in Poland and the man isn't (or is a foreigner who doesn't know how the legal system works).

Between romantic partners "I'll pay you back" usually means "thanks for spending this on me! don't expect any of it back.... ever!"

(nb, no, this is not knowledge from personal experience but I've seen the scenario play out a few times)

Life / Electricity, water, gas charge in Warsaw, Poland. [17]

You see his username is House To be Built and maybe he's looking at a plot of land in an area where it would be very expensive to run a gas line to the property.

If he's looking to build a house on a plot of land, he has money to hire a professional to find out these things. Why drop an enigmatic question on a random forum and expect people to figure out his intentions?

It's like the South Asian guys who write asking about jobs in Poland.... if you think that some random forum is going to give you answers to questions like that, you shouldn't be let out of your country.
