History / Why did the PRL keep many symbols of Poland's 2nd Republic? [12]

Did they form new political parties,

Most did and joined it: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_Democracy_of_the_Republic_of_Poland

the cult of Pilsudski was so immense that perhaps they wouldn't wanted to have messed with such a thing anyway.

No, communists were able to destroy everything.

pam:What is Ludwig?washing-up liquid

Yes, the one which brings fondle memories of the past. It was created in mid 1960s.

Ludwik - the first in Poland, dishwashing detergent, produced since 1964 by the Group of Inco (formerly Inco-Veritas SA). Its manufacturing method has been patented under No. 50169 [1] in 1965. Coauthors of the invention are Eng. Hanna Majchert and Eng. Zbigniew Korda. Patent owner has been the United Economic Teams INCO Warsaw, currently INCO Group. Originally Ludwik was sold in glass containers. Since the 80s and 90s the product is sold in distinctive white bottle with green and clear logo.

In the '60s Ludwik producer held the first campaign under the slogan "Ludwik to the pan." It enjoyed great success, as broke through the stereotype of distribution of roles in the household.

Today, the Ludwik brand signed a whole range of chemical products, to which includes, among others, lotions and balms, dishwashing, dishwashing formulations, universal cleaning products, specialty products, and detergents.

pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ludwik_%28detergent%29

The producers organised a very successful advertising campaign with the slogan, Ludwik, to the saucepan! Ludwik is a male name.

Travel / Traveling around Poland - our photo stories with very personal commentary [225]

Don't think it's going to be quite as sunny as in your photos,

Sunny? :):):)

11 July
We drove through the city of Poland

to visit the Monument to 1970 Fallen Shipyard Workers

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monument_to_the_Fallen_Shipyard_Workers_of_1970

The Monument to the fallen Shipyard Workers 1970 (Polish: Pomnik Poległych Stoczniowców 1970) was unveiled on 16 December 1980 near the entrance to what was then the Lenin Shipyard in Gdańsk, Poland. It commemorates the 42 or more people killed during the Coastal cities events in December 1970. It was created in the aftermath of the Gdańsk Agreement and is the first monument to the victims of communist oppression to be erected in a communist country. It was designed by: Bogdan Pietruszka, Wiesław Szyślak, Wojciech Mokwiński and Jacek Krenz.

I had seen it in 1983 for the first time.

The gallery around the monument shows the history of Solidarity phenomenon.

Gdansk mayor, for historical reasons, brought back the old communist name for Gdańsk Shipyard - Lenin Shipyard. It caused huge controversy and protests.

1980 strike historical reminders.

Looking forward to seeing this, interesting photos Pawian, Thanks for uploading them before i go:):)

Everything I do, I do it for you. :):):)

I always work that way, leaving everything for the last minute. And I am always in time! :)

Gdansk Zoo. It is very big so plan half a day to see everything. We didn`t visit all places due to fatigue.

Rope Park is a must! My kids were enthralled.

Dino Park

Next, we went to see the EURO 2012 stadium. Pity, it was closed.

Hey, newly weds were allowed inside to take photos! It is unfair! Why on earth had I forgotten to take my VIP card?????

Driving through the city again:

Custom plates

In the early evening we went to the beach but the weather got dull. Water temperature - 16 degrees C.

Yet, there were a few kamikazes who went for a swim. We were tired so we didn`t. :):):):)

History / Why did the PRL keep many symbols of Poland's 2nd Republic? [12]

A source for what? If you mean party members and priests hand in hand, just look at the photo. It is a real one from mid 1940s with that Soviet agent President Bierut, AL-murderer Rola Żymierski and other nasty top communist leaders in the background who opened a newly-built facility and allowed priests to bless it. :):):)

Harry, don`t make me look for sources for you, just read what you are written about and follow these guidelines:

o be fair, not all expats you can learn from - but some of them are incredibly well informed. Take Harry for instance - the guy's idea of fun is to go exploring ruined graveyards in obscure Polish towns in the east. His passion for Polish history is incredible

Such guys like you don`t ask others for sources - they provide them themselves!!! Poniał??? :):):):):)

Gdańsk is famous for amber stuff:

Gdansk, Sopot and the Baltic coast are a definite destination for those who (like my friend) are shopoholics and totally in love with Amber jewellery! :) What you pay in a Wizzair fair, you'll probably save on a few items of beautiful jewellery pieces - so it's worth a weekend shopping trip! [...]

Yes, and here is another clash of cultures.

Polish women may seem volatile but for sure they are more trustworthy than foreign women from US, UK, CAN who are praying mantises.

Travel / Photo tales from Krakow, Poland [10]

I love driving through slum districts in Cracow and looking at their shabby dwellings, admiring people`s ingenuity in collecting all kinds of stuff from nearby dump sites and fitting it onto their houses to protect themselves from cold, pigeons or nosy onlookers. When there is a will, there is a way.

History / Why did the PRL keep many symbols of Poland's 2nd Republic? [12]

Was it to prove legitimacy as the real Polish state?

Yes, communist didn`t crack down on the Polish society from the very beginning. They tried to attract unwilling Poles to communism, sort of. Do you know that till 1947-48 priests were allowed to take part in official ceremonies attended by communist party members?

It changed when Stalin gave orders to Polish comrades to quicken the pace of socialist revolution in Poland.

In Poland (like in most countries) it is a language spoken and learnt by the elite.

Yes, true, but 200 years ago. :):):):)

since 2004 because of Poland's joining the UE, all high officials have to learn it.

Really? :):):):):)

Hey, French guys, I looked through your posts and noticed this clash of opinions:

french is probably a lot easier to learn

French is more complicated than English since more complexed structures.

How can you explain it?

I bet you have never taken French ;).

My sister did.
I didn`t because it got on my nerves too much.

Different grammar is a piece of cake.

Didn`t they teach you at the university that one/third of modern basic English vocabulary is of French origin?

Yesterday I looked at the blackboard dribbled all over by the French teacher and I understood everything. :):):):)

Are you sure you speak French?
