Real Estate / Poland's apartment prices continue to fall [1844]

If house prices are falling in Poland surely that's a good thing for young couples:D

Depends on whether those couples took out a mortgage 2 years ago or if they have yet to do so.

Take everyone's advise man. It may not be what you wanted to hear but skiing here does really suck. It's not worth the time or money.

Life / Is Poland a poor country? [578]

Why on earth are there so many personal insults on such an innocuous topic?
Is Poland a poor country?
Let's come to some agreement on what "poor" means. Let's come to some agreement on what we define a "country" to be.

It should be an elementary task after that.

I do have one question though, what's the point of this thread?

Real Estate / Poland's apartment prices continue to fall [1844]

OK, answer the following questions in the order given:1) What was the percentage price increase (year on year) between 2004 to the peak in 2008.2) What is the percentage fall in prices since peak of 2008 (you can allow for inflation).3) How many homes have been repossessed in the past 4 years as a percentage of mortgage holders.I am willing to learn from you.

Those all seem like pretty objective questions. I'm interested to find out myself but
*possible dumb question begins*
"percentage fall in prices" of asking price only, of asking price corrected for inflation, of asking price corrected for inflation compared to earning power, percentage fall in prices of any specific markets or all real estate? I mean the housing sector may take a hit but commercial properties maybe not...I think although those questions are pretty solid it seems that maybe we should be ready to move to specifics beyond that once we get that info....

*possible dumb question over*

Real Estate / Poland's apartment prices continue to fall [1844]

It has to do with saturation of the market and the space available to build as well as access to metro

Is that it?
I would have thought the earning power of people and interest rates would factor greatly in this market but, again, I'm just a casual observer.

I have to admit, it would be pretty entertaining to see milky vindicated on this thread. I do seem to be seeing lower asking prices for the area I'm in but I am a casual observer who is taking few notes so let the chips fall where they may.

News / Should government monitor the net in Poland? [38]

Can anybody answer my question? Political affiliations aside (it's really silly to be that way anyhow), did this happen?
(I'd repeat it but an overzealous mod would just remove it again)

Life / Is Poland a poor country? [578]

Perhaps people on this thread have different ideas of what the word "rich" means?
I don't know if Poland as a collective of people and geography is "rich" but I would say what wealth does lay here is horribly mismanaged.

Life / Nice one Poland - saga of Polish woe continues [12]

So well done Poland, through your lack of consideration for your children, you have now most probably excluded two Polish children from stepping on Polish soil until they are 18 and mum maybe will never be able to go back.

We all know Poland is a person and yes (he or she?) really ought to go meet with England in a neutral place to discuss this one. Maybe over a coffee?

History / Memos show US hushed up Soviet crime against Poland [97]

Genocide against Jews, Poles and Armenians were a crimes against humanity.

So has everyone agreed that the mass murder in Katyn was part of a genocide or not?
I'm kinda lost on what everyone thinks (i am not going to weigh in at this point) and don't see where the discussion is really going otherwise.

News / Poland's Guy Fawkes [88]

The point is that anyone who is not planning to screw his business partner, cheat on his wife, deceive the dole authorities, prey on minors, rob a bank or murder his mum-in-law, etc. really has nothing to fear.

that is simply incorrect.

The point is that anyone who is not planning to screw his business partner, cheat on his wife, deceive the dole authorities, prey on minors, rob a bank or murder his mum-in-law, etc. really has nothing to fear.

That point is invalid- it is not a point. That information is too sensitive to be accessed so readily and easily. The likelihood of someone utilizing that information for the wrong reasons are far too great. That you can't acknowledge such scenarios in no way invalidate the reality of them. That we remain ignorant of such things happening in no way safeguards us from the effects of such compromises.

I don't know man, this case is starting to look...oddly predictable, almost like I've seen this formula before.
This is starting to look like a lot of theater meant to subvert rational thought and encourage group think. Fear is an incredibly old political tool, this may be another instance of using that tool. This story may be what it's being made out to be but it may not as well.

News / Poland's Guy Fawkes [88]

Besides, anyone who's isn't sneaky or underhanded has nothing to hide.

That has to be the most impoverished argument for net monitoring that is currently in use. People in authority DO abuse their access to everyone's private communication and that goes unnoticed, under-reported and unpunished. Until there are consequences for abusing such access, I cannot support such notions as you've suggested.

Nothing personal.

I'm not commenting on the story as I simply do not have all the facts but I suspect that not one person on this forum does either...

And progressive civilisation means free condomisaiton of school children.

You're just just further proving my point.
You've made a list of things that can be construed as problematic/destructive in our modern societies and pretend anyone who isn't religious somehow supports these things.

Why didn't you include these things: people forced to live together unhappily; church owned media publishing púrnography; priests raping innocent children?
Why didn't those factor into your list?

When you use these issues to push an underlying religious message, you're sabotaging the more important message.

You're right but when such message is continually wrapped up in religious undertones, more harm than good is done to the cause.

FAMILY IS THE BACKBONE OF PROGRESSIVE CIVILIZATION. RELIGION AS WE KNOW IT IS NOT.

Life / Poland monthly bills costs advice [17]

I am going to come to Poland in a few weeks and also speak to Best School in Tychy and Speed

I'm sending you a p.m. for more details about both of those places and the owners.

Best: Darek Wisniewski There is no way in this world you will make 3800/month net working there. Just kiss that idea goodbye. It is utter rubbish.

Dariusz is a taker, pure and simple. He promises the moon and then some. He finds ways to whittle down his promises to the bare minimum. Here's an example to show how he operates:

The guy wanted me to go to a company where the director explicitly demanded I be his only teacher. So of course I wanted them to cover my fuel costs. I remember I had over a 5/6 approval rating on average and he still said that I wasn't keeping people happy enough so of course "no" he wouldn't cover my fuel costs. I subsequently refused to drive to the business. The guy lost out on making money because he didn't want to share even a bit more than he thought he had to.

Speed: Andrzej Stoszek. What can I say about that guy? I'll send you a p.m. so he doesn't come after me for liable. You'd be working with 3rd or 4th year students straight off the bus from the UK or the US. He's now got it set up so education students can come teach at his school and receive some kind of credit for their program back home. There seems to be a disproportionate overturn among staff and students. He does pay as advertised though. He's the one owner in this country who never screwed me out of money too badly.

If you have no experience and refuse to entertain Katowice then I'd recommend Speed because Andrzej (this was 10 years ago mind you) delivers on the financial end.

If you have experience and refuse to entertain Katowice then I'd recommend Speed because the role Darek tries to put native speakers in, is bizarre and ineffective.

There are something like 70+ "language schools" in Tychy. The Katowice market is much larger and much less saturated. It is your decision but whatever you decide, don't say

you didn't know better.

It is very popular and trendy today to define one's own private morality usually along the lines of egoism and personal convenience.

It is also popular for some to define their morality based on that of the majority. Innuendo isn't going to help anything at all in this discussion, is it?

I happen to accept the moral teachings of the Catholic Church.

Good for you. No challenges here.

it provides the guidelines for what is moral and immoral.

as do other sources.

Of course, he can attend catechism classes and be baptised, make hsi First Holy Communion and Confiramtion as an adult, but that may be a hassle and embarrassment to some.

Why would choosing to embrace a faith be a source of embarrassment? If someone is embarrassed to believe something then I have to wonder as to why they would go through the bother. I'm not sure you've illustrated anything but an improbable scenario.

I certainly admire your devotion to the sanctity of the family unit, it is the most important of all elements in a healthy society but am kind of scratching my head as to why you've chosen to go after defenseless children with your ugly labels.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got to get back to my writings...I've got this really cool idea about how to teach morality. I think I'll start my story with people about to stone a woman to death for her sins...but then there'll be this message. I think you really ought to read it when it's done!

Life / A rant about "patriotism" in today's Poland [60]

One thing I adore about Poland is the fact that if someone hears English, they'll try and use it even if they don't know much of it

This just sounds like you adore being accommodated and catered to.

I remember telling some boss in a supermarket here that a checkout girl deserved a hell of a lot of credit for using English towards me when she heard me speaking in English

Wow! Did you really?!?!? You told some boss something? Holy-sh*t that's worth about....SFA, isn't it? Give yourself a pat on the back!

Seriously, is there a more self-congratulatory person on PF other than this dude?

That does not discredit the poor child

Yet you choose the term "bastard" -calling "things" by their name according to you. This terminology focuses on and marginalizes (at best) the value of that child through the use of the term. Why do that?

but it reflect badly on its stupid, thoughtless and irresponsible parents

So why not focus on them with your language instead of the child?

Often in such cases the footloose father takes a powder.

You're not breaking any new ground with this news.

and the baby may even end up not getting baptised.

So what?

And ultimately the child will suffer the most.

This is true. But you can mitigate that suffering by treating people with some decency until they actually do something which warrants less than that.

And those born out of wedlock are illegitimate children aka bastards.

Let us suspend sensibilities which are not dictated by a corrupt organization affecting sound reasoning and say "yes this is true according to definition of the word."

So what?
So what does if a baby is born a "bastard?"
What the does that mean to you, your highness?

The PC types claim if you call something by a different name it solves the problem. But a pile of dog droppings remains what it is no matter what we call it, or even if we spray it with gold paint.

Is that what it means to you?

I will not argue with you as you can think whatever you want but I am curious as to your answers.

I've heard some pretty crap reports about mbank in Tychy. The staff manager there is supposed to be just an awful and condescending person to her staff.

Where are you working in Tychy? I may some know things you may be interested in.
