USA, Canada / Polish Citizen, US legal resident, but no Polish Passport... [67]

If you are a legal US citizen, it's far easier and less complicated to get a US passport than a Polish one. When you return back to the US, you go through US citizens customs. If you travel on a Polish passport, you will need to get a visa for a re-entry to the US. So if possible, get a US passport. Definitely.

Since you don't have the old Polish passport you will need to go to Poland to issue you one. You have left as a minor, you are an adult now. You have to go to the vital statistic records where you are registered in Poland. This can also be done through the Polish embassy but it takes longer. You will have to register as an adult now in Poland. It takes about 2 months. Then you have to show evidence where you were living in Poland before your departure. This is a very long process and a lot of runnung around.

Try calling the embassy or write them a certified letter with your questions. They will answer letters. E-mails they don't always reply to.

Food / Polish Eating Habits [87]

They walk more in Poland, waiting for the bus or tramwaj takes energy, walking to the store, going up the stairs, preparing the meal etc. If you eat out you don't know what you're eating.

Life / Body hair-depilatories - do Polish women and men use them? [43]

We never shave, every spring we have contests who has the longest arm-pit hair.
Just kidding.
I've seen many women in Poland with hairy legs and furry arm-pits, usually the ones that work in the fields and don't really care what others think. But most women shave their stupid legs and ugly arm-pits.

Food / Why carp for Polish Christmas? [157]

Carps in Poland are raised in clean waters, are mainly fed grain and corn and considered a delicacy. This year the price for carp will be up about 30% because of the higher prices of grain.

It's a tradition in Poland to serve carp on christmas and is usually bought alive and like dariusz said, they keep it in the bathtub for a few days. Then they have to kill it.

But some people give names to their carp and feel sorry for it and let it go.

USA, Canada / Do many Polish people in America hate Americans? [592]

In the US and Oz only the rich have the chance of higher education, at least in Poland higher education is cheap.

Not true. In the US the poor receive grants, financial aids or loans so everyone has a chance to study.

USA, Canada / Do many Polish people in America hate Americans? [592]

Just thought I would chip in, I believe the average American doesn't travel to other countries not because he/she doesn't want to.

You are so right. After 10 years working for the US federal goverment I finally got my 2.5 weeks vacation!Woohoo!
There is not always enough time to travel anywhere abroad and it is expensive. Most often people go on fishing trips or relax in the mountains or the beach.

You may see people in new homes in America, but they're not theirs. They belong to the bank. People have a 30 year mortgages, If they don't pay it, their house will get forclosed. The cars are on loans. So it looks like they are rich, while in reality they own nothing.

USA, Canada / Do many Polish people in America hate Americans? [592]

As a result, everything in America sucks, except the money. The food in Poland is beter. The people are nicer. The schools are better. The doctors are smarter. Americans are fat and lazy, because they don't have a chance to become one.

I'll add to it that these Poles in this group feel like Americans owe them something. They complain that they are in a strange country, don't know the language, have no family around and they feel that Americans should kiss their a$$e$, should feel sorry for them and should bend over backwards to accomodate them.

USA, Canada / Do many Polish people in America hate Americans? [592]

Some people in the US travel, some don't. Same as in every country. Many Poles don't go anywhere, don't have a passport. It doesn't depend on the nation but on the people itself. There are smart and dumb people everywhere.

most of my friends that live in US for 10+ years think that americans are stupid

Poles who come to America call Americans stupid, but Americans who go to Poland don't call them stupid. Hmm....Is it because Americans are smart or the Poles are smart?

They don't need to travel, they got everything here in the US. Not only are there mountains, Geysers, oceans, hot springs, rivers, lakes but there are also Mexicans, Chinese, Japanese, Poles, Germans, etc. Why move a mountain when the mountain comes here?

USA, Canada / Do many Polish people in America hate Americans? [592]

Hello Hello.
Chicago has excellent Polish stores with excellent bread, about $1.29 a loaf. Cheap and very good. So people there don't complain about the food because they can get the same stuff as in Poland.

But they always find something to complain about.

USA, Canada / Do many Polish people in America hate Americans? [592]

Poles complain about everything. They will come to America and complain about the bread, the food, vegetables all taste the same, etc. They stick togther because they help each other out and consider Americans different than they are.

If they don't like something in the US, their favorite saying is: "co za dziadostwo tutaj jest" - meaning "what crap they have here", because in Poland they have better things.

But when someone tells them to go back to Poland, they don't want to...
