UK, Ireland / The West Highland Way - 96 miles through some of Scotland most beautiful routes. [28]

I've just been reading Ranulph Fiennes' book about his Transpolar expedition, in which he said that Scottish lumberjacks use Avon's Skin So Soft, or something like that, against the wee fukcers (midges, not American ladies). Ever heard that? I wonder if it would work with mossies.

Real Estate / Poland's apartment prices continue to fall [1844]

The best-qualified workers will be offered monthly salaries of as much as zł.7,000

Any idea where I can do a welding course?

Life / Wroclaw Stadium and the Queen gig. [20]

it's not Queen without FM, it's like a tribute band.

Spot on. They're just milking nostalgia. I was a big Who fan until Keith Moon died. It just wasn't the same after (how many drummers could that be said about?).

UK, Ireland / Crying Polish truck driver on British roads is Internet hit [269]

A sample of usual bashing of some Polish driver, driving a truck on Polish plates, they could not resist to leave it as they would do it if it was on English plates.

So this guy was victimized because and only because he was Polish, right? Nothing to do with stopping an HGV on the hard shoulder. Thanks mona, now we know what a terrible deal Poles get from the anti-Polish British police. ffs

Life / A rant on customer service in Poland [42]

Mekong Duck at Noodle w Pudle and there was no duck.

I had this recently in Galeria Alfa in Białystok. There were three little slivers of duck; just a taste. Noodle w Pudle is a nice idea but 22PLN for a carton of noodles? I go to a little place called Asia to go near work and get chicken with noodles for just under 10PLN. And they offer a wicked hot sauce and chopsticks.

Genealogy / my Polish Grandfather in Hitler Youth? HOW? [65]

Please note that the above does not apply if you discover that you are actually English, for as we all know to be born an Englishman is to win first prize in God's lottery.

Christ on a bike. Harry, do you really need to throw the trolls red meat with that awful Rhodes quote?

Genealogy / my Polish Grandfather in Hitler Youth? HOW? [65]

I discovered he has a German Identity Card of him in the Hitler youth!!!!!!

Don't beat yourself up over this. It's nothing to do with you now.

It says he was accepted into The Hitler Youth in Krotoszyn, Warthegau in January 1943 at 14 years of age

Perhaps along with the current pope. If I'd been a fourteen-year-old boy at that time and in that place, I'd have been drafted into the same rotten boy scout gang, whether I wanted to or not.

News / SUNDAY WITHOUT MASS IN POLAND - Judaeo-leftist Wyborcza gloats [165]

But I realise there are people who regard nursing a hangover or washing the car as spiritually more uplifting.

I didn't drink last night and my wife washes my car. Some of us non-believers do actually do interesting stuff, like reading books (or writing them). Some are probably doing volunteer work today, with no hope of eternal reward. Meanwhile, in the churches millions are attempting to strike deals with the Almighty. "If you get me through my exam, I'll be good."

History / The story about German- Polish reconciliation [194]

the two neighbors “are now at a stage of consummating” the relationship.

The cynic in me takes that as meaning we, the taxpayers, will get f**ked.
Seriously though

All good news for Poland - the country is growing up, it's seen as stable and on the right path.

It's all good.

Work / Cost of Living, Average Salaries and Job sites in Poland [263]

would I be able to lead an above average life style

On that salary you'll live like a Lord's bastard. Your kids will also save money because of the cheaper cigarettes when they start to smoke.

Language / Jas Fasola = Mr. Bean, why? [12]

The utterly unfunny Mr. Bean is hardly an everyman figure. Mr Pooter, perhaps. Atkinson's best work was in Blackadder in my opinion.

Life / Jehova's witnesses in Poland - how to deal with them? [110]

Basically what I said was, I appreciate the time you have taken, I wish you good luck but I am not interested.

That's also been my experience. My mum had a great way of getting rid of JWs. She simply said, "We're Jewish" and they always turned tail and disappeared. Not bad for an Irish Catholic. Oh my God, she lied! I guess she's burning in hell now.

mormons seem to be slightly less harmful?

Two immaculately dressed young men told me to f myself when I very politely told them that I was not going to invite them into my flat (in London) after they had repeatedly asked me if I was happy. (I was, especially after one of them said that)

In their belief system, only 144,000 will be chosen for heaven....they're religion has 7.65 million worldwide. That's not very good odds. ;)

...and how many of the chosen are women?

Life / Is Poland a poor country? [578]

For example, a teacher in Warsaw earns the same wage as a teacher in Poland’s poorest places (the difference is that in those places one can live on that but in Warsaw it doesn’t even pay for ones flat).

I know a lot of teachers in my region and few of them can live decently on their salary. In fact I don't know a single teacher who doesn't take private students. As for uni teachers, the pay is abysmal. There's no way I could live on my pay, which just covers the repayments on a loan I took to buy a modest second-hand car a while ago.

Real Estate / What do you pay in rent/mortgage in Poland? [144]

How do I know,??? cos Ive just visited over 18 lenders in Malpolska regarding this matter in the last 2 weeks. NONE were offering 100% mortgages.

Why don't you just buy a house with cash?

Food / Your favourite Polish foods! [180]

Is it used in mainly desserts,or in other dishes as well?

Sorrel soup is very common where I live (in the east). Costs nothing to grow. Perhaps an acquired taste, but I liked it first time.
