Work / Advice on Teaching English in Poland [709]

No, it doesn't. It's sort of a package deal. It doesn't hurt that they've been to quite a few dinner parties at my flat. I wasn't going to charge anything for the lessons because they're friends, but they insisted on paying. My Polish teacher does the same thing in reverse. She refuses to take any money for her lessons, and she comes to my flat. We've been friends for more than four years and she and her husband hve been to the same dinner parties as my other friends. Strange but true.

And for Havoc-no extras. I ain't that kind of guy.

I agree. All my private students come to me, except one who picks me up at my flat and takes me to his. After a two hour lesson, his wife cooks dinner for us. It helps that they're both good friends.

Real Estate / Banks in Poland selling fewer mortgages in 2011, down 49% [285]

People in Poland B don't earn that and live in towns

Unfortunately, they do. Uni grads who work in shops and some friends of mine who are teachers. The latter supplement their salaries through private lessons while the former, well, simply don't buy anything.

News / Polish hero pilot lands 767 without wheels. (Warsaw) [191]

Just out of curiosity how many here have actually flown Lot to North America.

I have. I've flown on LOT three times-twice to Poland and once back to the US. Completely uneventful. I was quite pleased with LOT, and should I ever visit the US again, I'd have no qualms at all about flying LOT.

It's amazing that the LOT pilot was able to keep the plane straight. In contrast, watch this

A wing in the water is a lot worse than a straight on approach to a foam filled runway. Trust me on this. I've seen both.

Language / How hard is it to learn Polish? [178]

without the benefit of either a knowledge of either Latin or German

I had two years of Latin in high school and then two years of French. My uni degree is in French. I also studied Italian for a while and living in Southern California for many years I picked up a little Spanish. I've also lived in Japan twice and learned some Japanese, though not kanji. Polish is more difficult than any of them.

Language / How hard is it to learn Polish? [178]

This is very true. However what makes Polish more difficult is the grammar. I'm still struggling with it, but I'm making progress.

Classifieds / English cuisine week in Lidl shops in Poland [203]

"The English word scampi is the plural of Italian scampo

This is true.

scampi is a style of preparation (butter, garlic, white wine...)

Yep.

Unfortunately, finding good fresh shrimp here is difficult so I just buy the frozen ones. Cook them in butter and garlic, then add a sauce made from the remaining butter and garlic in the pan. Add about 400 ml of wine, preferably sherry, reduce the mixture and pour it over the shrimp. I'm making myself hungry.

I think I'll pass on English cuisine week.

UK, Ireland / Websites for Poles to benefit from Britain! [210]

I can't stand the Slavic cunts to be honest. You belong in Poland, working towards a better Poland. Not stealing our benefits under the "EU" banner (which is ending for UK soon anyway :) )

What a bigot!

And what do you contribute to your country, other than your bigotry and hatred? Take a valium and go back to bed little boy.

Real Estate / Demand for apartments low in Poland's main cities [89]

I like to play poker. Small stakes, only 20zl a game, but it makes all the difference if you believe in your cards enough to pay a little and see a few more. Otherwise you're just blowing smoke with nothing to lose.

Sort of like playing poker. Neither one is a sure thing, and this seems reasonable to me. It's put up or shut up time.

may only be able to afford 50 m2.

That's what I want. I live in it. Unfortunately, it's in Gdansk in Old Town and the owner hasn't yet decided if she wants to sell it or not. She knows I want it, and I'm I'm first on her list. It's only a question of price.
