USA, Canada / Getting a VISA to USA by a Polish person nowadays [339]

What every you want to believe if it makes you happy. Personally I have no intention to take part in the worlds biggest drugs test.

Monsanto makes good money over here. You can live in your fantasy world safe in the belief that you're being taken care of over here while Americans are being experimented on, the truth is there is very little difference. Livestock here is given steroids and a plethora of antibacterial and antiviral medication. Crops are sprayed with industrial chemicals. If you hadn't noticed, Europe doesn't exactly have a spotless record when it comes to food safety, outbreaks, and cancer cases.

So having grown up with grass fed beef, fresh milk, local fruit and vegetables...well, it's a bit difficult to get used to having to accept that change.

Travel / Driving to Poland from England - any tips? [264]

If you treasure your car don't drive it to Poland, The roads are shocking and I have damaged several of my cars not to mention the peasants will steal parts from it while its parked Headlights, door handles and most definately your "M" badges (these will later be refitted to a **** rusty 4 banger e36 driven by the shaven headed type).

I've had mirrors stolen, metal grill, plastic trim inserts, and wind shield wipers. I just replaced the mirrors and wipers with the cheapest I could find (stick on mirrors for a peugeot from halfords), and haven't bothered with the rest.

I drive a 2004 M3

Here's hoping that you left the stock suspension in (it's pretty soft if I remember correctly). The roads are pretty atrocious. And watch out for those holes, good way to crack your front spoiler.

Technically, they are indigenous to America. Any mexican I have met in europe seemed sound enough.

Not really, the Indians are. The Mexicans in the US are mostly of European stock.

Law / The 'Secret' of Poland's Economic Success [83]

2012... Probably more like 2014

The plan is to possibly enter ERMII by 2012 if all goes well. Right now, it's in the best interest of Poland to stay out for as long as possible. Had the zloty not been massively devalued, the Polish economy would have been dead in the water for the last two years.

Actually, over the past 18 months more Yanks have applied for PPS numbers to work in Ireland than Irish applying to work in the states.

Looking forward to hearing about those "f*cking mexicans" from you in about 6 months time :)

So in the US you get 'high end eateries' that sell tasteless meat and fish presented in an expensive and impressive manner that have no taste whatsoever. In the US cheapness is the most important aspect, taste doesn't exist.

What you're probably ignorant about is that no self respecting chef would use meat that has been pumped full of BGH. Also, you do know that was the norm in Europe until it was replaced right? You think that those cows grow that big because of the good climate here? GM foods don't taste any different to the foods that are non GM. I'll put that up to the pepsi challenge any day. Plus, you don't have dump tons of chemical fertilizer on them to keep your crop.

In the US, you have the choice of buying high quality, organic if that floats your boat, food, with a much larger selection, and at a much lower cost than the Bio stuff over here. Which reminds me of another thing that I miss...Whole Foods.

Maybe that's just me, but I think it's sad to sit there, and stare at mostly single mothers who undress themselves for a bit of money to support their kids.

Makes the food taste better. In all seriousness, unless it's a shack out at the airport, those women are making "great" money.

I probably have a harder time getting into my own country than you do.

"So what were you doing in Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan...I can't even pronounce the other one..."

That'd be Kyrgyzstan, just sightseeing.

"Sir, could you please follow that officer..."

Well, I've spend months in the US, eating out in NYC, Californian and Texas. 99% of the food was bulked up by volume, processed crap. Even expensive NYC restaurants were all show and little taste. Quality in the US is actually defined by size not taste.

NYC? Aureole, Gotham Bar and Grill, Blue Hill, Peter Luger. New York has some of the best high end eateries in the world.

There are also great pizza joints, delis, great Mexican, amazing Korean and Chinese. New York is hard to beat.

Dallas has some nice places, Austin is great for eating out. Especially if you like Tex-mex and Mexican...or BBQ. NXNW in Austin is probably my favorite restaurant.

F*ck California (even though San Diego has some nice places too, and the brew pubs up north are awesome).

That's one of the things that I really miss about the US, the availability of good reasonably priced restaurants. I'm a sucker for local places and taco wagons though...

I'd agree if you're talking about Mickey Dee's. No, they're not.

With all the great local restaurants available, why on earth would you spend money in a chain restaurant

Food is tasteless crap, the people are idiots, the scenery is cookie cutter national chain stores in every little town. Its depressing as hell.

Sounds like you don't get out much.

Minimum wages is half most European countries and the populations health (and healthcare) is terrible.

Yes, but median wages are higher. And Americans seem to live just as long as Europeans...even taking into account that we're shooting each other while we eat our triple whoppers. Less sick days too.

History / Why are Jews pestering Poland for "proper" WW2 monetary restitution/reparations? [750]

the memories of those still living in the
locality.

It happened, it's over. The state disappeared and was replaced by a
communist state which meant that there was no private ownership...for
anyone. The communist state then went through a transformation, and
privatization occurred during which time quite a bit of real estate
was transferred into private hands. It's not fair, to anyone, but
that's what happened. People who fled or left or didn't come back
during communism decided to no longer be members of that society, and
missed out on privatization. No one won under communism.

The people that lived through 50 years of communism, some of which had
everything taken from them and now only have the block apartment that
they got from the state, that's one of the evils of communism played
out. It's not fair, but that's what happened. It's over and done with
now. Poles are now getting back on their feet, and there is no reason
to pay people that skipped out on 50 years of socialist bliss that
missed out on their free block apartment.

not at all but that doesn't look bad

No sh*t. Good luck finding a decent cut of meat here. It's all made to be boiled, pounded, or stewed.

That said, the result of the boiling, pounding, and stewing is great.

looks very tasty on the barbee.

The little ones are good on the grill.

History / Why are Jews pestering Poland for "proper" WW2 monetary restitution/reparations? [750]

Nope, Poles were members of an occupied nation, being occupied is different than being a minority, it wasnt legally done because Poland did not agree to it, invasion and forcefull theft of property to which you have no claim is legal how? Based on your logic gassing Jews was legal as well.

What occupation? The people in power sold out the poor. Poles in power sold out their countrymen.

History / Why are Jews pestering Poland for "proper" WW2 monetary restitution/reparations? [750]

The first thing about this issue is that Poland is the only EU country to offer no reparation for the losses of both Jewish and non Jewish families during 1939-89.

If you recall, those people owned property in the second Polish repbulic, I'd suggest contacting representatives of that state to get the property back.

UK, Ireland / Female health in Britain - Polish view [105]

though due to Socialism, if my family bought milk in Poland, it automatically meant using subsidies. Satanic system

That's actually a great comment. Thanks to the EU, almost all of our agricultural products are subsidized. Yay!

History / Why will Poland always be the puppet of America? [159]

Poland won't always be the puppet of America. Sometimes it will be the puppet of Russia, sometimes Germany, and sometimes Sweden. Who knows what comes after America.
