Travel / Is the Poland National Tourist Office doing a good job of promoting the country ? [3]

Sort of reminds me in an odd way of the identical discussion, oh, some twenty years back, when the same question was asked about whether the (neighboringLOL) German National Tourist Office was doing a "good" job in promoting their country.

Both countries have an almost Sysiphysian task ahead of them, but with a little pluck, imagination (not to mention hustle), I think they should be able to do it:-)

Surely, Trump's visit with President Duda plus the G-20 in Hamburg ought to bolster some effective PR for both! Let's keep our fingers crossed.

News / Officials in Poland are hailing an upcoming visit by Donald Trump [720]

Well, thus far, our leader's has better luck (interpreterwise, that is) compared with his distant predecessor, ol' Jimmy Earle from Peanut Country, Ga, who also expressed "The Polish people yearn for freedom..", coming out unfortunately in the embarrassing form of "We [The US] lust after the Polish people......"

That-time Party Boss Pan Gierek was NOT amused:-)

UK, Ireland / Question about Irish-Polish similarities [25]

Indeed, as well as a staunch Lubowitcher etc.. "Staunch" and Catholic simply seem to go together, after all, it's the Protestants who label the Catholics "ideologues" and not vice-versa!

Furthermore, all stereotypes have a basis in fact, haven't they? Pushy Jews?? Sure. You start getting ignored by your neighbors right and left, for years going on decades and you'd be pushy too:-)

UK, Ireland / Question about Irish-Polish similarities [25]

Superficially, Poles and the Irish are quite similar! Apart from the obvious, such as their both being ethnic Europeans and staunch Roman Catholics (the Poles though far more so), they appear tempramentally not to far apart, they both often exhibiting impetuous temper outbursts and a tendency to volatlity:-)

Law / Exam for Drivers License in Poland after passing theoretical test in Germany? [7]

Maf, once again, it always depends on the age group you're talking about! Those from roughly fifty up through their sixties will speak German better than English. Their parents on the other hand will know Russian fluently, probably zero English and at best, broken phrasebook German:-) Under fifty, particularly teens and yuppies, English of courseLOL

Law / Exam for Drivers License in Poland after passing theoretical test in Germany? [7]

knecht,

Chances are that if taking any test in Poland, regardless of country of origin, you'd have to take it in the language of country of the exam for which you are sitting! Do you speak Polish? English- (much less German) language driving instruction in Poland (perhaps different from Germany these days) is liable to be either few and far between or horrifically expensive, as it becomes a matter of supply vs. demand. The demand for foreign-language driving instruction in Poland must be relatively low, therefore the supply will have to make up for such demand and therefore cost considerably!

Something to think about:-)

Love / British girl only interested in Polish guys... [6]

I've heard that men find particularly the North Country accent when spoken by a woman especially sexy in Polish:-) Evidently, you reside in Derbyshire, but I just thought I'd lay that one on you (no pun intended, of course)!

By "North Country", I mean around Yorkshire and that area, rather like in that old classic "Calender Girls".

Law / Settling into Poland to make it a new home; documents, drivers license, tax code, etc. [10]

I could potentially offer my availability regarding any cultural or language issues, i.e challenges, should you wish to stay in touch: tarsape@gmail

Although not a native Pole, I spent a bit of time there, have also had considerable contact with Poles while visiting the continent, especially in Germany:-)

My insights could be useful, but only should the need arise!

Language / Poles struggle with English vowels [42]

Numerous, in fact all, Polish students of English whom I've taught over the years never seem to grasp the idea of "long" vs. "short" vowels! Although Spanish speakers as well have similar struggles in English, Poles seem to be able to reproduce the distinct sounds in writing, yet curiously, not in speaking.

Curious, isn't it?
