News / POLISH GAS RESERVES [40]

It is expensive to drill, no doubt, but as you well know Russia has cut the tap at will even in the recent past.

UPC does the same thing interestingly enough.

News / WHY DOES POLAND BUY GAS FROM RUSSIA? [105]

So they should have waited until after the elections?

Polish shale gas reserves are enough to supply Poland for nearly a century...or the EU for nearly 2 years. Doubt much is going the export route.

Law / How much do Polish people actually pay in taxes? [12]

It's not 70%, but it's still not pretty. But, remember that on top of income tax, there are quite a few indirect taxes as well. VAT, fuel tax, etc...

News / Brown's 'Bigotgate' and the debate about Poles [63]

When will all the ignorant retards learn that Poland is, was and always will be a Central
European Country

Stupid UN with their stupid North, South, East, and West divisions. If "central" makes you feel better, than fine, Poles are Central Europeans.

News / 2010 Polish Presidential Election [39]

the PO stands for opportunism, corruption and ties with shady blokes

I don't remember those being their major planks.

PiS stands for a vision that this country should be for the whole nation not only the power elites even if this seems not very practical and even if they were not all the times acting as idealists would

Yup, the whole nation...well, except for those traitors of course. You know the ones... And those people that don't fit in with the romantic vision of Poland that the leadership has.

Both parties, equally worthless.

SD on the otherhand...

News / 2010 Polish Presidential Election [39]

PO - Socially Conservative, Economically really light neoliberal, flat tax, privatization, etc...But they don't seem to be able to get a damn thing done.

PiS - Socially Conservative, Economically socialist (populist economical policy). Healthy dose of Nationalism, party of righting historical wrongs.

In the US, both parties would get the "socialist" stamp (rightfully so).

News / Vietnamese Busted for Selling/Growing Herb in Central Poland [11]

Just decriminalize like Portugal and the Czech Republic. You don't have to tax it in order to make money off of it. The benefit to the criminal justice system alone is a great argument for decriminalization.

USA, Canada / Do Poles feel America is going down the drain? [149]

So, you're just assuming they're old… For argument's sake let’s say he/she is old, why would you think it would matter? You don't believe that some retired police officer at 65 could do the job?

An old Czech lady shot an intruder not too long ago...Great piece of advertising for ceska zbrojovka

That's why you live in a gated community

Have to be able to afford it first. That's what I was saying about crime being more pronounced now in middle class neighborhoods.

Illegal dumping, should be prosecuted to the utmost extent of the law.

Austin is a great city... many students... full of life place...

That used to be the case, still an interesting city though. Wouldn't have any issues moving back.

"Some people think that to get these figures on unemployment, the Government uses the number of persons filing claims for unemployment insurance (UI) benefits under State or Federal Government programs.

Spot on. Employees working part time, even a couple hours a week, are employed according to BLS. So are the long term unemployed. The number is close to 17%.

Convex I am sorry to hear about your Mom and Dads troubles, I know how upsetting that can be.

Even worse hearing something like that. Oklahoma has a "make my day" law, the same as in Texas. Only thing is you have to be at home to get a chance to shoot them.

- Most kids I talk to love college.

Less than a third of kids go to college.

I have to agree with you, as I notice the same here. The reason though seems to be that too many people lost their jobs and have no chance to get back on their feet again.

I noticed it during the "good times" as well. It's just much more pronounced now.

It's definately not all bad though. If you want to "make it", it's relatively easy. It just seems that recently the people that busted their asses and are living on a fixed income suffer the most....ah, beautiful inflation.

You should definitely move out. Your neighborhood does sound like a ghetto to me bro. I would buy some land and a traitor if I had to, but i would not live there.

Not much choice on retired military salary. Cheap credit has managed to distort what a "middle class neighborhood" is for quite a few people on a fixed salary.

I don't live there. I live here in candyland.

USA, Canada / Do Poles feel America is going down the drain? [149]

I'm surprised at you, convex. Unless you choose to live in a gheto, or hang around with crackheads, life in US is very safe. I never lock my car, most of the time forget to lock my front door

The problem is with crime moving into lower middle class. I spent about half of my life in a trailer and the other half in a house in a small neighborhood. My father is retired military, and the neighborhood that they moved to was pretty nice. They've been robbed twice, there was a shooting on their street about a month ago, each one of the cars have been broken into in various places around town.

Anyway, my point is that there seems to be a creep in crime from lower income neighborhoods into middle class neighborhoods. I like to partially thank meth for that, but maybe that's just me. It's not that easy to pick up and move, especially if you're not willing to go into debt up to your eyeballs.

History / Polish-Moroccan mutual relations [67]

...but according to an Iranian cleric if women dress more modestly we'll all be safe! LOL

Seems plausible. Remember when Falwell and Robertson blamed gays and feminists for 9/11?

How about we send the cardinal a letter asking him what was he afraid of?

Like the Popemobile. Lots of faith there.

I see your point but after all this was a national tragedy, not just a family tragedy. Not sure what the proper thing to do would've been but flying through the ash wasn't one of them.

Of course, but first it was a family tragedy. Most reasonable people accept that some leaders couldn't make it due to circumstances beyond their control. And no one knew at the time whether the ash would clear up.

I wish the funeral had been delayed by a week or so. In my view that'd have been the smartest thing to do.

No reason to delay it for foreign delegations. The families needed to bury their dead.

Is that the reason why the Texans love to run around in public fully armed?

No, it's just in case anyone attacks. I guess Texans just enjoy the ability to defend themselves in case of attack, instead of being rounded up like sheep and not being able to protect their families in the case of a catastrophe. I'm trying to think of another time and place where that might have been useful, do you have any ideas?

News / Is it possible that Polish president was assasinated? If so then, by whom? [921]

As far Russia claiming the Patriot missilies in Poland are a threat to their security - total hogwash. That's like a bank robber saying guards wearing bullet-proof wests are a threat to his/her security. Sasha - Poland is no longer in the Russian influence zone and never will be again! Even with a weak, Russia pleasing president we have. Get used to it!

The Russians don't have a problem with the Patriots, they had a problem with the GMD missiles.

And I mean, NATO, like it or not, isn't exactly the most Russian friendly organization. For instance, how would you feel about Russia joining NATO? I mean, if Russia isn't a threat, it should be okay right?

If the answer to that is no, then you can see why Russia would feel threatened by a military alliance on its doorstep.

They can keep planes there, but the definition of "decommission" is to remove from active status, which would suggest the absence of armed soldiers. If there's any military here, straighten me out...

In Russia, like Poland, there are all kinds of car parks where a guy gives you a ticket in exchange for a couple zl and watches your car. Same goes for planes.

And there is still Russian military based in Smolensk.

News / Is it possible that Polish president was assasinated? If so then, by whom? [921]

On another note: Isn't it a little odd that armed soldiers (?), NKVD (?) were already at the crash site, even before emergency crews? Or do armed Russians lurk at every Russian airport, waiting for crashes to occur? Just a thought... nobody have a fit, please.

Yes, there were NKVD agents all over the place.

Would it be unusual for security to be at the airport for a head of state? Probably not. There are apparently still some soldiers based there as well.

why implicate russias guilty concieous by reasoning that a MISSLE DEFENSE SHIELD IN POLAND IS A THREAT TO RUSSIA sry, cap lock it is meant for Iran why by russia having a s**t over it when it has nothing to do with them.

I guess because the Russians offered the use of a radar base much closer to the launch sites and it was considered to be completely out of the question. Could be that the Russians signed up for a treaty with the US which specifically prohibited ABM systems.

I guess those might be good reasons.

Any U.S. global anti-missile shield element is a strategic target for Russian missiles. It is not useful for Poles and is rather dangerous for both of us.

Which is a no brainer. Same thing as NATO bases are targets (especially those with nuclear weapons...).

NATO..."to keep the Russians out, the Americans in, and the Germans down"

Law / WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF THE EURO CURRENCY TO POLAND? [101]

where is EURO there is recession, the only benefit of having euro ( for Poland) is that The UE don`t want to "print" money opposit to stupid Bernanke policy in USA

Ofcourse...but they are.
