UK, Ireland / Fish and chips - do Polish people in the UK like this? [108]

How do you think a proper English fish and chip shop would fair in Poland?

Poles don't seem to have any taste in food whatsoever,

It would do well in poznan with all the expats though :)

Travel / Driving to Poland from England - any tips? [264]

Fill up with fuel before you get on the boat as fuel on the continent is expensive, make sure your tyres have more than 5mm of tread all round and are matching brands and type, (legal requirement in ze fazzerland) From calais to the polish border should take around 9 hours maximum, if you do it overnight. Try to travel through germany on a sunday as there are no lorries on sundays.

Life / Prices of cars in Poland? [88]

In Japan its fashionable to have a LHD although they drive on the same side of the road as us for some strange reason,

Imported cars normally come with full service history and a "JUMVEA" certificate which certifies the mileage. Its also illegal over there to rebuild write offs etc. When you look at cars from japanese dealers they measure the condition on a scale of 1 - 4 4 being the best and 1 being needs work on the panels anything with structural damage has to be crushed by law (maybe the poles should take note)

I would be more than happy to help you source something from wherever I can find one as i'm sure we can find something.

As for the Gieldas i had the same sort of feeling, When spending £1000 on a car history doesn't matter too much but any more than that i would always demand service history.

Personally i wouldn't touch anything for sale inside Poland as the majority are in some way dodgy.

Law / CHINESE TO BUILD POLISH ROADS.... [92]

I reckon even the chinese would do a better job of building the roads than the Poles, They couldn't even manage to get that little stretch of autostrada right between nowy tomysl and Poznan and now it has to be rebuilt.

It seems that the people who work on the roads don't give a **** what the finished product looks like and the companies that oversee these projects are riddled with corruption which doesn't make for a good finished product,

they should get the japanese in to build the roads, If they can renew an entire motorway overnight after an earthquake they should be able to build the entire motorway network here in lets say, a month?

Life / Prices of cars in Poland? [88]

@jedi

I've been to Poznan auto gielda a few times and the pricing people put on their cars is very optimistic, I personally wouldn't dream of buying a car here in PL as the regulations governing the practice of rebuilding wrecks are somewhat none existent.

A good source of LHD cars is tradecarview.com its buying direct from Japan I used to do it with skylines and imprezas back in the day when they were popular and the stuff from japan is always very low mileage and maintained very well due to their strict emissions laws and their version if the MOT (shaken test)

Shipping from JP to a UK port is usually about £300 per unit. If you need any help i would be happy to help.

Life / Prices of cars in Poland? [88]

Fair comment, I drive back to the UK on business quite regularly so its never been too much of an issue, They really need to introduce a europe wide technical inspection which can be done anywhere,

Gone are the days when you could just call your friendly MOT inspector and ask him to post you a ticket too,

I know some insurers who will insure your car without a UK MOT provided that it has an overseas one, ie french, spanish etc, It won't be legal in the UK but you can always book it in for an MOT at dover should you wish to use it in the UK,

failing that would you be selling your BMW?

Is the jag a uk car? RHD

Yeah its a RHD Uk car, I've got the knack of driving them on the right now, I actually prefer driving a rhd on the left,

My Polish quote was for the suburbs of poznan, a pretty good area but was still way too much,

£300 for a 7 series in the UK,?? you must live somewhere where there is no crime or people?,

Pretty much yes, Bude in North Cornwall, Car was kept in a garage, I have had my own policy since i was 17 and managed to get 7 years no claims,

Just had a pretty good quote on a 99 jaguar xj8 i'm thinking about buying at £234 full comp for both me and my GF with up to 180 days per trip out of the UK green card allowance.

I think the postcode area EX23 is one of the lowest insurance band areas in the UK as my insurance has always been really cheap compared to my friends who lived in plymouth etc.

News / RHD cars in Poland - my campaign to change the rules in Poland [128]

I'm going to register a load of cars in PL just because i can :)

How can they say that a rhd car with uk MOT is unsafe just because the wheel is on the right when most poles continue to drive utter wrecks around badly?

The fact my Malluch has a valid technical inspection is case in point when my pristine BMW with the correct lights etc wouldn't have passed, utterly ridiculous

Insurance is much cheaper in the UK, On my 7 series i was paying less than £300 a year, with a polish insurer they wanted 3500 pln for third party,

Theres quite a few uk insurers who do the yearly green card now which makes things much easier.

I drive back to the UK regularly anyway so igetting an MOT isn't so much of an issue also taxing can be done online so its only really the MOT,

News / RHD cars in Poland - my campaign to change the rules in Poland [128]

I will happilly support your case. Its about time Poland got rid of these stupid laws, I personally don't feel safe driving a LHD car as its just not natural, changing gear with your right hand ffs whats that all about.

Aren't poland breaking some sort of eu directive by not letting people register their rhd car here? I've seen a few registered but they were more specilist cars ie the poznan drift team have a fleet of orange nissan 200's which are rhd and on polish plates and also an old london cab.

About time this was sorted, expect my fax.

Classifieds / Maluch restoration party in Poznan with beer [21]

Are you not going to put flames down the side? :) :) :)

The paintwork is staying standard for the time being as its pretty much perfect with the exception of the bonnet (carbon skin perhaps?)

Regarding the suspension, I think this will need to be totally replaced as there are no anti roll bars and it looks like a cross between a torsion bar and a mcpherson strut, Something i've never seen before although avo do an uprated kit for £92 posted, (nearly what i paid for the car).

Looking at the brakes these can be easily uprated to items from the uno in order to beef them up a little bit.

I've got loads of random bits back in the UK from my old drift car, bucket seats, wheels, steering wheel and some random trick bits which i'll bring back when i collect my sensible car from the uk,

I'll be taking the bumpers off tomorrow evening to check for rust and I also think they look much better de bumpered as the 80's massive plastic things ruin the overall look so i'll see what condition the body is in behind them, Also the door bump strips are looking a little worse for wear so they'll be going too.

thats just a quick pic of the difference a bit of g3 makes :)

Classifieds / Maluch restoration party in Poznan with beer [21]

Great idea,
I think they are very cool cars :)

It absolutely amazing fun to drive, me and mikey delphian drove round in it for ages yesterday and couldn't stop laughing, I mainly bought it for my g/f as she jokingly said she wanted one so found this and thought I could tidy it up a bit, It also means I can buy another big saloon car as we can drive this within the city to conserve petrol.

I have some 15" minilite style wheels in the UK which i'll bring to fit on it and i think it will look awesome, Always fancied fitting a motorbike engine in one though :)

Classifieds / Maluch restoration party in Poznan with beer [21]

Right, As i've just bought a maluch, (yes its amazing) for less than the price of a good night out I want to start restoring it to its former glory, If anyone is interested in a few beers in the evenings this week I'll be outside my house working on the maluch, it would be good to have some company, I'm starting this epic restoration this evening so anyone is more than welcome to join,

It might even be an idea to have a bbq if i can find somewhere that sells those disposable ones,

Law / What can I do with 250000$? [33]

Hookers, coke and champagne, you could live the life for a while for that sort of cash :)
