Natasia - this could have been true 20 years ago, but the average marrying age for Poles is ~25 years (bit more for guys and less for ladies). I'm sure that in rural areas they still marry young, but teenage pregnancy in Poland is not a major problem - this is where I completely disagree with OP. Yes - some teens get pregnant, they do everywhere. In Poland - they actually usually marry the fathers of their babies (we are quite traditional here...). But this is far from a big issue.

Polonius, I met my husband through one of dating sites, I think you can't put in one basket internet dating and 'bride ordering'. The first one can be as succesfull as any, internet is only a medium to get in touch, i don't do discos and bars so it seemed like a better option to meet someone in a new country and new city... We've been together almost 5 years. Don't know if that's succesfull but we are certainly past the stage of a clash of imagination with reality :)

Rita - I think that what makes most people here think that your marriage is not genuine, is the fact that you want out only after 3 months of being married. UNLESS there is a physical or mental abuse (in which case you must get away asap) you should give it a bit more try.

What can you do?
1) get a job
2) go back to your studies
3) live YOUR life (not married life as you expressed it)
4) stop paying all bills, stop borrowing money
5) stop cooking for him, washing his stuff etc (basically stop being his maid, although certain amount of cleaning you will have to do so that you don't trip over his c**p)

6) no more expensive gifts - as someone said this is not customary in Poland
Now - what you have to consider (and it might be painful realization) is why he married you.
Maybe he thought that he is getting cheap maid for his EU passport?
Even if the marriage was real for you - was it real for him?
At some point you might need to cut your losses and leave - and then UK authorities will probably investigate you. But hopefully by then you will have finished your studies and be able to stay in UK based on your skills.

I think she is in UK legally still, waiting for her spousal visa to come through. If she now goes back to uni chances are that they won't deport her because she is studying.

Maybe we are on a different forum - but to me it was clear she does NOT want to be deported. She wants to stay in UK - without her hubby who seems to be abusing his "power" (or what he thinks is his power...).

The best solution to her is to go to work and go back to her studies.

Hmm... I'm not a huge fan of Polish men (none of the relationships with any of them worked for me after all), but that sounds a bit unfair... Some of my friends are married to some good guys - somehow they managed to find them, so not all of them are THAT bad...

C'mon Savage - what the heck Polish guy would want Indian citizenship for? Surely taking your husband back to India and try to convince him to apply for Indian citizenship is not a way to fix marriage?

To me it actually seems like a marriage of convenience, as she seems to be focused on the visa and not saving marriage, but your argumentation just does not quite make sense to me...

Now - dropping out of an MBA in last year is what I would call foolish to put it very gently, but maybe that's a cultural difference. I met some educated Indian and Pakistani girls in UK and in South Africa, who stopped working the moment they got married...

Now - you seem to be pretty determined to get out of this marriage rather than to make it work, so I would suggest that you go back on course and re-apply for student visa.

Otherwise - get some counselling - if it wasn't a deal or convenience, it seems to me that you are BOTH not ready for marriage.

You might be able to translate your license by sworn interpreter, then you would have to carry original and translation. Some countries accept this, not sure about Poland. Check in Ministry of Transport(Ministerstwo Transportu, Wydzial Komunikacji)

I don't know - I'm not in Britain.
In South Africa, the "official" system is same as in Poland, kids go to schools at 7. But lots of kids go to pre-schools from early age, they learn various things (mainly through play) - like counting, easy maths, writing, reading, things about environment.

The problem is when those kids go to state schools - because in state schools they will teach them same things all over again, so the kids that know those things already simply waste time.

In private school they simply continue on the base of what pre-school did, so kids have head start - rather than just learning simple things they do more reading, practical exercises, have more time for extracurricular activities because they don't have to spend time learning basics.

There is a massive gap in private and state education here - not all because of this of course, but this is one of the reasons.

They may not be harmed, but surely they lose some potential good of starting education earlier. If you teach them certain skills (like holding pen, forming small shapes on paper etc - even if it's not writing) they will be able to spend more time on learning other stuff.

I think Poland has bad education system, 7 years to start school is late. 5 years seems much better age. Of course schools have to be ready to teach small children (which in Poland they are not), but sending kids to school earlier than 7 is definitely good for them.

Oxon, where did I say that Britain should allow for such exploitation of the system? I only gave answre to OP's question, which I find pretty naiive. I actually believe that there should be no financial benefits whatsoever, when you work you pay insurance to private unemployment fund and when you loose your job you use the fund. Pretty much like private health insurance. Same rules for everyone, no matter where you are from.

Phil, if you are Polish why you ask questions like this? You know perfectly well that benefits in Uk are better than in Poland. I agree, this shouldn't be about milking system, but some people are like that, and that's not only true for Poles. If someone works below their qualifications and prefers that to going back, it's completely different thing. In many cases they would be working below qualifications in Poland too.

Yes, Pip absolutely, that's why I get so angry when people bit*h and moan that they aremaking peanuts and in meantime they didn't do much to progress at all. You do need some luck, but more than luck you need to be able to look ahead into what oportunities job or company can give in future. Short term you can land a better salaty in a smal business, but 5 years later you might still be in same job earning same salary. Whose fault is that?

Ok, i will be more specific - you have skew view on wages in Poland . In your previous post you said that average salary is 28 000 Pln before tax, which is not true. Judging Poland through the eyes of Poles in Irenand? I refer to your view on Poland which is clearly affected by view of Poles that left Poland for better life (nothing wrong with that). They are simply not a representative group of Polish society, there are plenty Poles that stayed in Poland and are not thinking of leaving.
