Work / Working at Volvo Company in Wroclaw [27]

In an IT contract you have no job security, no rights of redress and no social security, PFRON or other Polish benefits. You might also have to work longer hours to complete a project (though in my experience this rarely happens !)

Polonia / Reckless Polish Man starts wildfire in Montenegro [48]

why not just have one thread for misbehaving Poles in the UK and muslims struggling with European cultural norms ?

I'm sure opening the page and seeing many threads of useless and irrelevant abuse is not good for casual visitors.

Law / Bank commissions in Poland - are there some standard fees, and where can I find them [10]

Arrangement fees or provisions are common here but without knowing what kind of loan it is, what collateral etc then it's not possible to make a meaningful comparison. However almost every bank has a website that allows you to calculate an all in interest rate including the annual rate and the arrangement fee. Alternatively use sites like Money.pl to get a comparison. 4 percent would be very high for a business loan - arrangement fees are about 0.5 up to 1.2 depending on how much ongoing business you give the bank. For an unsecured personal loan then Four percent might be standard if they are giving you a very low ongoing rate.

News / Tragedy of Polish couple; Polish woman repeatedly raped in Italy, her partner almost killed [101]

I hope they find the people responsible and try tchem swiftly.

As for safety, well the US prime destination for beach holidays is Florida - it has more murders per year than Spain, Italy and Greece put together. Maybe evidence that unfettered gun ownership is far more dangerous than migration and that the orange moron who has his costly "working holidays" each weekend there should not lecture the rest of the world about safety.

Life / Is Poland split into two religions: catholicism and non-believers? [103]

No - I am not asking for your opinion, more what the bible says about that. It is crystal clear that refugees in your country should be treated with the same dignity and respect as natives.

If you do not want refugees here because you are racist or anti Islam then OK. But it is nothing to do with defending Christianity.

Life / Is Poland split into two religions: catholicism and non-believers? [103]

The Nazis first act on taking power was to round up all the registered Commies they could find and execute them. The communist party was then banned on Hitler's first day of making laws.

The books of Marx, Engels, Leibkneckt, Luxembourg and just about any prominent socialist you could think of were banned and burned.

There is plenty wrong with communism but it was not the inspiration for the Nazis. Nazis would recognise their successors as those who advocate race hate, intolerance and simple solutions to complex problems.

Life / Is Poland split into two religions: catholicism and non-believers? [103]

I am a practicing catholic IS and regualalry attend church. I am of especially pious but have every right to call out this nonsense. So I ask the question again - how should old chirsitians treat refugees ? What does the bible say about helping people in need ?

Life / Is Poland split into two religions: catholicism and non-believers? [103]

What do your mean minded rants have to do with Christianity ? Just out of interest when did you last attend church ?. how do you square such nonsense with the clear Christian duty to help others in their hour of need ? (I am talking about genuine refugees)

The head of the Catholic Church has only this week spoken of the need to treat refugees with dignity.

I don't mind if Poles and Hungarians simply say they don't want muslims here because they are prejudiced. What I do object to is them using the defence of Christian Europe as an excuse for them, especially in the case of people who never attend church. The thugs parading in Warsaw and shouting about the gospels are more likely to be joining Polish ultra in his daily pursuits of cheap speed and drunk middle-aged women.

Law / Experience of a pre - divorce case in Poland [8]

Maybe those properties were bought before 2004 when there restrictions for foreigners to acquire land ?

Well there are a few things you can do. Not sure what your other few million zloty of assets are but if they are shares, bonds etc then get them into some kind of trust or offshore vehicle ASAP and ensure that dividends and interest flow to you.

Also make sure the money your wife took from your account (perfectly legally) is taken into account in the settlement.

If the only evidence she has of an affair is a few photos of you in a pub then don't worry about it - just ensure your lawyer knows the truth. If it's a webcam of you boning your mistress in your wife's bed then that is more of an issue.

Food / Best place/way in Poland to buy groceries in bulk? [6]

Excluding the wholesalers then I think Auchan would be cheapest but you will need to factor in travel costs and time. some have a tram stop but that's not going to be comfy with a mountain of groceries. Add in a cab or gas each way and you might be better off at Biedronka.

Life / Health cover for a married couple in Poland [70]

No - that is not the way the EHIC thing works. You get equivalent treatment to the locals but in cases wheee they would pay then you pay too (e.g. For prescriptions). It is also intended for non residents though this is of course difficult to enforce.

Food / The best tatar in Warsaw [12]

Its not the sort of place where Legia gangs would drink - find the bar next to a big gym and they will be there :) I know they do quite often hang around in clubs like Luzztro and Smolna after evening matches.

Work / Polish employer suggests I have my own company in UK [21]

I don't see a moral problem but I just don't see the logic - you would have to pay corporate income tax in the UK and then Polish tax on whatever method you use to pay yourself - salary up to 32 percent or dividends at 19 percent. So you would end up with quite a high rate of tax.

If you just set up a standard Dzialalnosc then you would pay 19 percent tax plus the fixed ZUS amount. That is a fair tax rate in my view, assuming you have a regular source of income and can cover the ZUS.

Food / The best tatar in Warsaw [12]

Well it's certainly the best value - especially at 4am and with the floor show like you describe

The best quality I would say is at Butchery & Wine on zurawia or at the Intercontinental restaurant.

Life / Health cover for a married couple in Poland [70]

Nobody full time and legal is on 1500 wages - that is well under the minimum wage.

But I agree is not cheap - in Germany my private healthcare was 105 euro a month - it was a few years back but even with inflation I doubt it's much different.

Real Estate / The coming Real estate correction in Poland. [20]

But they have to eat surely ? And a supermarket would be the cheapest place to get food and somewhere that would suit their unsociable working hours. I just don't think this 100.000 figure, which would almost double the labour force of Wroclaw, is plausible. Diggler keeps mentioning it in in his obsessive anti Islam threads but I am really surprised by that number.

I agree that 4 percent is better than the bank - but I am getting 2 percent on lokata now and the only work involved is a few phone calls. Finding, buying and managing a flat is time consuming and stressful. Still I am going to get something else in the autumn once I can face it :)

Real Estate / The coming Real estate correction in Poland. [20]

Where does this 100.000 figure come from ? I heard it a few times but it cannot be true. I studied this week footfall figures in a number of Wroclaw shopping centres which showed only modest increases, comparable to other Polish towns. So unless these people don't buy groceries I am really skeptical about that. Where would they live for a start ?

I think current price levels are ok if you want to live in your flat. I am surprised about Poland being the poorest performer over 17 years and suspect that is in EUR, not in local currency.

As an investment then my own experience is that yields are poor for the time involved and the risk created by Tenant friendly laws. I know some here claim 10 percent yields but my own flats are struggle no to do 4 percent once I throw in empty times, tax, repairs, gas for travel to sort out issues etc etc. Repair costs especially have gone up a lot as have things like security and cleaning due to minimum wage rises.

Law / Last will in Poland - (can a stranger inherit everything?) [40]

That is true between EU countries. It is sometimes true with other countries - in the US it is up to his State to apply laws - if he had no US will then the default position might be to accept the Polish will - that is why you need a lawyer in that state. Your partner has millions at stake - you will not salvage them on a public forum peopled mainly by bored expats and Slav supremacists.

Law / Last will in Poland - (can a stranger inherit everything?) [40]

These are serious amounts of money - all the advice is correct above - especially to get a lawyer in Poland.

A few other considerations !

The Polish police have got better things to do than arrest people trying to attend their fathers funeral. You can only be arrested for committing a suspected crime. If it is in church she is free to turn up.

If this lady is not a US citizen and is not married to your FIL then she could face an inheritance tax bill in the US of several million dollars - it depends on on many factors. Unless she has liquid funds to pay that then this possibility could give you a huge advantage in getting her to be more rational. Speak to a lawyer in the US who specialises in inheritance.

One question your partner will face is why she did not speak to her dad in the 9 months after he lost his wife. If that was me I would be checking my dad every day to make sure he was coping, so there is obviously some backstory here that we are not told. and it's possible that this woman was in the background for some time - she has every right to the 50 percent portion but not to the portion reserved for relatives.

History / For what the Germans owe Poland one trillion U.S. dollars? [299]

Does that mean that we are free to ignore any laws dating from 1946 to 1989 ? In that case it is awesome as I would no longer have to clean the snow from the pavement outside my house and can drink what I want before I drive.

Work / Studies In Poland, is it easy to survive on part-time jobs? [259]

Wages are higher than that and it is not easy to find someone Polish in Warsaw even for a simple work for less than 20 zloty. I

Outside Warsaw then about 15 zloty

Minimum wage is 13 zloty and about to go up again - it is illegal to pay security guards that little though I suspect it still happens occasionally.

Yes, tips are probably low - different system and better in my opinion for both employees and customers.

So unscrupulous employers have started to hire Indians and Pakistanis at tiny wages - I hope the labour inspectors will stamp that out though normally they prefer hassling legitimate businesses who stay in one place and have cash to pay fines.

Law / A general legal question about inheritance in Poland - debts [31]

Depending on the amount then you should see a lawyer. Yes in theory you would be liable for the interest and if the claim is made within 10 years then you are at risk. However it is arguable that you can only be liable for interest that the dead man agreed to - if for example they increased the interest rate after he died when he would obviously have not been able to answer letters then you can argue back against that.

If your wife reads Polish then maybe she can look at the website antywindyk.pl - there is plenty of advice about how to deal with ambulance chasers and debt collectors.

News / 2ND MIRACLE OF THE VISTULA: youth mysteriously appear out of nowhere! [231]

Plenty of fallout today. According to Newsweek then Szydlo and a couple of others turned up at the Palace and told Duda that Jarek would give him an hour to change his mind.

As if that is not bad enough then Szydlo scheduled her autocue address for exactly the same time as Duda's - if people consider PiS to be basically decent how can they explain such an ignorant show of disrespect to the head of state ?

And in news that might interest Crow, it seems Czech and Slovakia are wondering if staying in Visegrad is worth it given the comedy show in Warsaw and Orban's own obsessions. Maybe Serbia and Russia could join and make up the numbers ?

News / 2ND MIRACLE OF THE VISTULA: youth mysteriously appear out of nowhere! [231]

They are a lot less tiny than the crowd bussed in for Trump a few weeks ago.

He asked if people were ready to defend the west - he has his answer. Yes decent Poles are willing to take to the streets.

Though to be fair I think the State Department made a sensible intervention which showed PiS just how isolated they are.
