History / Polabia back to Slavs? [113]

Germany doesn't have the demographics to invade anyone today like it did in 1939. Also, there is a self invasion of Muslims going on in Germany itself which Germans are too weak to do anything about.

To invade another country, you need a nice huge youth segment population of your country that can be used as army fodder to attack another nation. Germany doesn't have that today. Germany is getting old and the only thing the small segment of German youth care about today is luxury, partying and good times.

News / Sex is patriotic: Poland's birth rate rises [34]

Although this article doesn't talk about Poland, this article is relevant to Poland being a fellow European country. I feel Poland should try to improve its demographics and increase its ethnic Polish population if it hopes to have a good future.

Moderator thanks for merging my new post into this older topic. They fit together well :)

Genealogy / Is tallness common among Polish people? [201]

In my experiences, I notice people of Polish ancestry are above average in height.

I am above average in height and so is most of my family.

If you look at the female professional tennis players of Polish ancestry, most of them are tall.

In professional boxing you have several tall Polish guys.

In NFL football there is usually a Polish American player on a given team who is tall/big.

History / Chance of Lwów once again became coming part of Poland [344]

But there is a big brothelhood between Poland and Ukraine ;)

Nathan I don't think there is a brotherhood between hard core Polish nationalists and Ukrainian nationalists. But I think most centrist/mainstream Poles and Ukrainians get along. Especially among the Polish and Ukrainian diaspora.

But one thing which is undeniable, is that the Polish government, as far as I know, has been the biggest supporter of Ukraine. I don't know of any other government that has been as supportive of Ukraine.

But as for nationalists, I still think it was interesting that a Polish nationalist like the late president Kaczynski got along well with Ukrainian nationalist president Yushenko.

I'm sure there will always be differences between some Poles and some Ukrainians, but I think mainstream Poles and Ukrainians get along.

UK, Ireland / Polish burglars 'tied up pensioner and stripped her of jewellery before leaving her to die [28]

A shocking amount of them died at the hands of their fellow countrymen.

What's the percentage? Do you have any links on this or is this just more mud your throwing against the Polish wall hoping it will stick?

I'm sure there is a higher percentage of your Russians killing each other. Putin blew up Russian apartment buildings in Moscow killing hundreds of Russians as an excuse to attack Chechyna and has even assassinated Russians living in Britain.

what a great choice of words when it comes to basically murdering a human being.

This all true. But I think the purpose of his posting this topic was more in an attempt to define all Polish people with these terrible Polish people. He downgraded his comments on the tragedy so that he wouldn't look too much like he has an anti-Polish agenda.

History / Chance of Lwów once again became coming part of Poland [344]

What is Polishness in your sense? To be an as*-hole and stir the international rumble? For me Polishness is being nice neighbors with Ukrainians

That's how I see it.

Well, it is the Polish city !

There maybe some characteristics of the city that are Polish, but technically its Ukrainian since its in Ukraine.

Short of starting a war, the city will never be part of Poland so I don't know why some Poles keep talking about getting it.

Even if it was made part of Poland with the territory around it, THEN you would have non-Poles in Polish territory that will only make Poland harder to control, like it was historically when more non-Poles lived in Polish territory.

Frankly, considering Poland's volatile history, the people of Poland today should appreciate the territory they live in today and just focus on doing the best with it. It shouldn't be taken for granted that there isn't some nearby predator Hitler or Stalin like country today looking to destroy Poland.

History / Chance of Lwów once again became coming part of Poland [344]

Poland can get back all those land they decided that belongs to them and keep all those taking from others and call them 'stolen from the polish in the first place'. But the reality is, can Poland afford them?

Those are good points.

Also, the only way Poland could get land from Ukraine would be to have a war. We all know that would be insane.

Even if Poland got Lwow/Lviv and other territory, Poland would THEN have Polish territory filled with mostly non-Poles. Not good! In the past, that only weakened Poland and led to its demise in 1795.

Like you say, Poland should focus on running the land it has now. It should also continue to improve relations with Ukraine. If Poland and Ukraine continue their good relations, the border becomes less important.

Good luck, MW - I've just passed details of your post onto the author.

And people wonder why Polish-Americans are stereotyped as being dumb when they take offence at something that no-one else does?

LOL!!!! Ha ha ha

Really?????

WHAT details???

You mean my little joke about the author being related to Goebels?

Good pass it on to her. Tell me what she says!!! :D

So let me get this straight.

A Polish American like me makes a little joke about somebody who makes some jokes about Poles (and other groups) and then you jump on me about "taking offense" and say "that's why Polish Americans are stereotyped as being dumb"????

WHAT????

Dopeymine have you lost your mind???

It was JUST A LITTLE JOKE!!!!!

Didn't you see my LOL at the end of my comment??? Do I have to put my LOL in neon lights for you? LOL

By the way Delphiandomine,

Do you want to see some Russian joke videos???? Considering that your Russia is supposed to be some brilliant superpower (at least by Russians), I can't believe how many Russian joke videos there are out there.

You seem to not mind jokes and think people should not take offense at them. So do you want to see some Russian joke videos?? :D

These would be the same "xenophobic observations" which you haven't actually read any of? Personally I'd want to be careful about publicly saying that a professional writer is on the same level as Goebbels (given that such a comment would make somebody less likely to buy her book and is entirely untrue) but I'm sure you know what you are doing.

Maybe Monia was joking when she said that the "professional writer" sounded like Goebels?

I think that "professional writer" sounds like Goebels. In fact I think she
is somehow related to Goebels based on what she say about Poles LOL

Life / What is the reason for POLISH jokes ? [486]

I agree with historian about given reasons to that phenomenon . The fact is that the jokes were spread by Jewish owned American media till mid 70-ties of the XX century and repeated by dumb Americans for dumb Americans

They were pushed mostly by 1960's and 70's Hollywood/TV Media Left-wing Soviet loving Jews. Like NBC-TV's George Schlatter and CBS-TV's Norman Lear. But most fair minded liberal Jews did not push them. Neither did Conservative Jews. In general.

LOL, but you realise that the Xenophobe guides make fun of almost every nation?

That wasn't her point.

Reactions like yours just show why the Polish jokes exist. Don't take yourself so seriously

So her comment verifies to you that Poles have subhuman intelligence? LOL
Whatever you say Goebels.

What are you going to post next, Hitler's statements on Poles? Mein Kampf maybe? LOL

News / Lithuanian ambassador 'Poles not loyal citizens' [63]

Where did you read it? The referenced article don't say it at all...
Poles in Lithuania DO speak Lithuanian. They learn it at school and use every day.
They use Polish only among themselves, and what they want is only allowing to write they names with ś, ć, ą, ę etc. which Lithuanian law currently forbids.

Well that's what I thought. I know there are Poles who speak Lithuanian in Lithuania.

What percentage of the Poles in Lithuania do you think speak Lithuanian?

History / Why does the idea of a "Slavic Union" with Poland seem so popular on this site? [96]

Very odd, especially as Jaroslaw Kaczynski was one of the worst people for promoting Polish (and only Polish, not Slavic) nationalism.

There you go again with KACZYNSKI. You're paranoid of him even though he has no authority in Poland. You seem to be obsessed with the Kacznyskis even though one is dead now. You seem to have Kaczynski on the brain in every other one of your messages. Most of Polish America is not engaged in Polish politics and did not participate in any support of Kaczynski. They are focusing more on their American concerns.

If Kacznynski was not Pro-Slavic, why did he have sympathy for Serbia?. Oh that's right he didn't have a kind word for your Russia and as usual that's what this all about with you.

Not to mention, a lot of non-Polish Slavic-Americans that I've met were antipolonist.

I think your full of ***** too. You come out of no where just recently just to knock other Poles and Polish Americans. It seems like you're the arm of another anti-Polish troll on this forum. The fact you are supporting Delphiadomine on issues, says all one needs to know about you.

Lies...all lies.

You sound like a troll. You're the one lying. Have you read Polish American newspapers like the Post Eagle?

You sound like the Rebirth of another troll on this forum.

History / Why does the idea of a "Slavic Union" with Poland seem so popular on this site? [96]

So, why not prove this to be a fallacy, not just to make a point, but for concrete benefits that would flow from such a union?...You have the EU, which is too big and unwieldy, so why not a more well thought out Slavic confederation?

That's interesting.

As a Polish American, I was brought up to be proud of my Slavic roots. It was almost just as important of being proud of my Polish heritage.

I can't remember how many times I've heard my relatives watch a sport event with participants who were Polish and or some other Slavic ancestry and route first for the Polish guy and then the Slavic guys.

If the Polish guy lost and somebody who was Russian, Ukrainian, Serbian, etc was the guy who ended up winning, my Polish relatives would say, "Well maybe the Polish guy lost BUT at least a SLAVIC guy ended up winning!" lol

When I read Polish American newspapers like the Post Eagle, the editors always speak highly of Americans of Slavic ancestry. That's just the way many of us Polish Americans were raised.

So although Slavic nations in Europe may have had their ups and downs with one another, the Polish-Slavic diaspora in America and other countries for some reason like to take pride in their Slavic roots together.

So this is why talk of a Slavic Union or Slavic Confederation keeps coming up from time to time by Slavic people.

Its the kind of thing where its not for every Slav. Especially those Slavs who might be hyper nationalist about their Slavic nation vs another Slavic nation.

But for the rest of us people of Slavic origin, its a nice concept to always keep in mind and explore.

News / Lithuanian ambassador 'Poles not loyal citizens' [63]

Plus there were confessions of Lithuanians specifically targeting Poles just because they're the largest minority or just because they are Poles and Poland occupied their lands.

Interesting.

These things generally come down to HOW people go about these things and not so much the issue itself. Provocative comments from either side are not helpful.

Although I think Poles should definitely learn the Lithuanian language in Lithuania, I think its wrong for Lithuania to shut down Polish language schools.

I could not see anybody in the US daring to shut down Spanish, German, Italian or Polish language schools in the US.

News / Lithuanian ambassador 'Poles not loyal citizens' [63]

I think the Lithuanians just want the Poles in their country to speak Lithuanian. They are correct about that. That's why some Lithuanians are getting upset. But they should stay away from making provocative comments. So should the Poles.

But what you say is interesting.

But they are not Poles.

I agree. People who choose to live in a country should learn to speak that country's language and assimilate. I don't know why some Poles in Lithuania don't want to learn Lithuanian when Poles in general were good at assimilating and learning the language of most countries they went to.

Most people of Polish ancestry in America speak English well.

No such thing as Ukrainian, there's Poles, Russians and monkeys inhabiting Ukraine, you're either a Pole a Russian or a monkey :))

Sok, there is no need to make these anti-Ukrainian remarks.

The Ukrainians I know are fine people.

Would you like to say anything about all of Delphiadomine's flaming?

I asked around and people agree. They say it is funny, contains only diminutives, it is "a mockery of a language for adults".
This claim is not offensive to Czech people (cause who doesn't like children, right?).

I disagree with this.

I never heard Poles say this about the Czech language.

USA, Canada / Polish-Americans as seen in the false mirror. Type A and Type B. [141]

Thank you very much for your answer, MediaWatch. I actually noticed your well balanced, objective and interesting posts on PF.

Thank you Antek.

I agree and I think that PF is not a representative source of polish sentiment among PolAms ( if there is one or two Poland`s haters here on PF it doesn`t mean they represent any meaningful group among USA residents of Polish descent . Most of them are proud to be Polish !!!!

I agree. You have good and bad in all groups and....... most Polish Americans are proud of their Polish background.

From what I see, in general, most Polish Americans that are here on this forum, are here because they are interested in the land of their roots and want to see it do well. Polish Americans also want to see the Polish diaspora in other countries do well also :)

USA, Canada / Polish-Americans as seen in the false mirror. Type A and Type B. [141]

Or bin this thread and ban me. I've seen enough to think that it would be a valid option.

I think most Polish Americans are in group A not B. I know I am.

If you want to know how Polish Americans feel about Poland in general, we feel the same way as Irish Americans feel about Ireland, Italian Americans feel about Italy, German Americans feel about Germany, etc.

lol the fact that 80% of US Polonia voted Kaczynski is just scary, they shouldn't be allowed to vote!

I believe you mean 80% of the 1% of Polonia voted for Kaczynski. (Was it really 80% of Polonia that voted in Polish elections, that voted for Kaczynski)??

Most Polish Americans did not vote in elections for Poland. I did not vote in any elections in Poland. I vote only in American elections.

But like most Polish Americans, I always wish the best for Poland :)

Love / Do Polish men like to sleep with other men? [79]

No, what led to the destruction was the greed of the Polish nobility which sold Poland out to others, simply to stop the "peasants" from getting any sort of power. Conservative greed, if you will.

Assuming this is true its sounds like the wealthy of a country selling out their country at the expense of its average citizens. Its been going on since the beginning of time.

Other examples

Wealthy Romans selling out average Romans for people from God knows where coming into the Roman empire, was an early example. Wealthy American business men selling out average Americans for cheap foreign labor and labor by illegal aliens. The wealthy British class is selling out the average Brit for foreign labor. In Moscow now, there are many Russians who don't like the wealthy Moscowvites inviting in foreign labor to do work average Russians can do.

That's the danger of multi-culturalism in a country. The wealthy class will sell out the original people in their country to be replaced by the new multi-cultural people. So the original people of a country ie the "peasants" should be most concerned with foreigners coming into their country.

I'm glad to see you're on the side of the "peasants" now. ;)

Love / Do Polish men like to sleep with other men? [79]

Uhmmm no, I do understand poland is a mono-cultured place and gradually with a lot of it citizens travelling it will become more open minded.

Hopefully Poland doesn't become "open minded" to the point that led to it being multi-cultural like it was in 1795, which then led to its destruction

. I have negative things to say about every country.

So you admit you have a problem?

I actually was joking about the "gay" part....if you read it. I was making fun out of the situation. I find Poland a very interesting country that has a lot to offer hence why I visit here. But as I say that the racism and homophobia that seems rife in the country I hope will one day change.

There you go again making negative generalizations about Poland saying Poland is "rife with racism and homophobia". You can find this in every country in the world if you're inclined to do so.

Evidently all of Poland's "racism and homophobia" isn't keeping you away from it.

However I do hope Poles have a "racist" attitude towards somebody like you so you won't go there anymore.

Life / What is the reason for POLISH jokes ? [486]

Absolutely! I grew up during that time and it was hard. Lots of bloody noses on both sides.
@ Media: how do you explain the recent relative easing-up on Poles in the media?

That's a good question, because I grew up when the media heavy-Polish bashing was starting to decline and there is a huge difference today of the attitude of the American media world towards Polish people then say in the 1970's.

The answer to your question is long and complicated, but since I am limited for time right now, let me just say that the media complex has gotten much bigger and has changed, so its harder for Polish-haters to dominate all of it. Most new media today like conservative radio, internet are neutral on Polish people more or less and don't have the old 1970's Big Left-wing bias of the TV networks and Hollywood (Prejudice today in general against any ethnic group is not seen as acceptable too).

Also the TV networks and Hollywood, despite having a residue of anti-Polish bias, are bigger and more complicated, which also allows for even Pro-Polish shows and movies from time to time.

Also the world has changed. Some of the old media people who saw Poles as their "eternal enemies" have bigger fish to fry so to speak. For example, they see a growing Muslim world that don't like them too much as a REAL enemy today, vs the Polish people who were more of an imagined enemy to them.

I'll have more on this later. Got to go.

Life / What is the reason for POLISH jokes ? [486]

Early so called Polish jokes were mild. They were jokes about Kielbasa, Pierogi, long Polish names etc.

But the put down jokes that Poles have inferior intelligence were introduced and pushed hard by the Hollywood/media complex. There were only a few TV networks which therefore had a virtual monopoly on the imagery of what the American people saw decades ago. Most of that imagery were the subhuman intelligence jokes of Polish people or related imagery. It was meant to condition the American public to have the same anti-Polish prejudice that the left-wing TV networks/Hollywood had of Polish people.

How do you think Americans who did not live near Polish people or know Polish people all of a sudden had the opinion that "Poles have inferior intelligence" in the 1970's???????

Do you think it was just a coincidence that the "newest Polish joke" in those days in all parts of America including parts of America where there was NO interaction with Polish people, was the same joke that was on national network TV?????

History / "Quiet Hero" a book on Polish Survivors rarely heard - by Rita Cosby [26]

"One of Poland's great treasures has now been found."

Good for Rita.

She has been on many TV and radio shows talking about her book and her father.

She seems to have a lot of friends in the media and not only talks to them as a guest but occasionally fills in for them from time to time talking about her "Quiet Hero" book.

She fills in occasionally as the radio host for Steve Malzberg's show. This past Memorial day she was filling in for Malzberg and dedicated at least a half hour on her book. She even called her father while she was hosting Malzberg's radio show. She is good at articulating American patriotism in conjunction with what her father went through. She and her father are thankful for America's help in getting her father out of Nazi German territory.

I have heard Rita talk about "Quiet Hero" while filling in for other radio hosts like Lou Dobbs. I like guys like Steve Malzberg and Lou Dobbs. They're good American patriots in my opinion.

MW, I really don't hear any Polish jokes around here. Actually, nothing about Poland at all. Are they really still present in Chicago (I assume, that's where you live)?

Same here. I live on the East Coast and I personally don't hear the so called Polish jokes.

Hollywood and the TV media don't push them like they did years ago, so they're not really in the mainstream like they used to be. Actually all ethnic joke slurs are not in the mainstream. But of course, Polish people like all groups will have their element of detractors that will try to push them every so often. Like on this forum.

Polish jokes are harmless and there are gazillion of other jokes out there about any other nationality. So when you go up in arms about polish jokes you gonna look like a total puckerass every time .. I know that you can't read about this in any media so i forgive you, so take this tip and go with it.
