News / Polish-German Reconcilliation Seminar [491]

Like I said if we received even 1/2 the money Israel and the Jews got I'm sure the majority of the people involved in this would be more than happy. A trillion is pie in the sky - its where were starting our negotiating position. It will most likely end up billions and be more comparable to Greece's, south Korea's etc

@cms
Well that's your prerogative, other poles have decided otherwise. Most people who's families suffered don't roll over that easy including members of Poland's parliament and other branches

@Atch

Well actually no I'm not 30 yet.Yes in some instances things are made public, media is invited, other ppl like lobbyists advisors or even friends of participants can listen in (but not speak) etc. That is what I meant by that. Closed door as in we knew the topic (reparations) but not the scope or any details.

Well maybe it's high time you ask for reparations then. Just BC the Irish didn't does not mean the poles have to follow suit. We've asked for this on and off since the 90s but we never had the political and economic clout we do now hence we were practical enough to not waste more time with it. The situation is different now and all branches of government at all levels including now foreign lobby groups recently are working towards this. And were not doing it for personal enrichment. If some flex actor has to be paid so be it but ultimately due to a wide set of circumstances this is now the best chance we've had since the 90s to receive reparations

@mafketis

Says who? The only time land was ever brought up in ww2 reparations was by Stalin where he said he didn't want money but instead land and 4 million slave workers. Neither poles Greeks Jews Germans etc ever brought up land.

Closed door meaning the media was not let in and the scope of the talks were not made public. And no the meeting was not in the US

Yes atch the reparations issue as brought up in the 90s

Shame. This is an issue for poles not foreigners. I bet if your family members were raped and murdered and your country invaded you'd sing a different tune than kumbaya.

Love / Are Polish Women cold and aloof? [249]

@DoggyDogg
A good portion of polish women that date foreign men are more interested in dating an 'exotic' guy or in the guys 10k zl plus it salary than the guy. Don't believe me? Propose and see the answer. Most end up marrying polish men though one for sheer demographic reasons as there's far more polish men and women than foreign and second when they decide to settle down they want to pass on the culture and such. Also the family has a bit more influence on a young couple in Poland than in many western countries. Outside of Poland its different there's many married to non poles but they tend to stick to white males nonetheless. Go ahead and keep being all nice. Everyone knows the nice guy gets screwed in the long run.

Actually our legit non commie government was in exile till the 90s. Again territorial changes esp those discussed at Yalta preceded any sort of reparations and payments for European countries. The countries like Germany Poland czechy weren't present in the negotiations. There is significant evidence the elections for example parliamentary elections in the late 40s were rigged. Poland can easily point out that the majority of poles after the war supported the non commie ak, cursed soldiers, and government who was later in exile for decades. Again if you ask the generations and their families if they want reparations you'll get your answer. I guaruntee the vast majprity want repearations and justice for german and russian crimes. Those are the people who count since they went through it.

What did I suffer? Nothing of course as I just like you most likely were born after ww2. My grandparents from dads side are a different story (not sure about moms) as their home was destroyed and they literally lived in the forest. Another family member had his fingers chopped off 1 by 1 with an ax by a german to pry info out of him. Again borders were decided for us, not by us and we lost 70k m2 of land. They as many poles had property and lived back in lwow which was of course decided for us not by us to no longer be a polish city.

Shame that you guys wouldn't want justice, even if delayed, for people who faced death and destruction for years. If your (or your parents/grandparents) home was burned to the ground, your wife (mother/grandmother) raped, and your friends and family killed by an invading army im sure you wouldn't be calling for some kumbaya reconciliation and would want justice for them.. And I bet a puppet government saying no thanks would p!as you off even further and only make your desire for justice stronger.

Do you really hate Polish people that much that you wouldnt want justice for their senior family members and the country as a whole? We had to rebuild everything brick by brick and turned it into one of the highest nominal GDP eu members and an economy more competitive than the traditionally wealthy countries.

@mafketis

Never said reparations were settled. Furthermore germany is contuing to pay reparations to numerous parties for ww2 as they just finishrd paying their ww1 reparatuins. Borders were not settled for just Poland but for Germany and every country east of it to Russia. Czechy Austria Hungary and all those countries had their borders defined for them.

Every non ussr or satellite country including Germany received money from the Marshall plan to rebuild their country. Poland despite being totally annihilated as it was a battlefield for literally the entire war didn't receive a penny. You don't think we wanted Marshall plan money to repair warsaw which was totally leveled? Warsaw looked like raqqa or any other God forsaken IS shythole. The soviets refused to allow Poland or any satellite nation to take Marshall plan money even though they desperately needed it - far more than France and UK which didn't have a fraction of the damage. They allies gave money to the aggressors even and wanted to give it to Poland as well BC they were one of the largest forces helping the allies. Stalin and the Russians wouldn't let us. Neither would Stalin allow for satellite nations to sue Germany as east Germany was now in Soviet hands.

Its not up to you to make terns of this deal nor is it mine. Yet I'll do what I can to help Poland as I find it shameful that someone wouldn't want people who were killed, raped, homes destroyed etc to receive compensation for what they and their families went through. The Greeks got theirs, the Jews, Israel, USSR, france, UK, even aggressor Germany all received money to fix their country in some form or another and many continue to receive reparations from Germany. We received m thing and continue to receive nothing despite suffering some of the worst damage and millions dead. Its high time for Poland to get the justice they deserve and receive compensation just like others have and continue to.

Love / Are Polish Women cold and aloof? [249]

It depends. I've noticed that Polish women tend to be rather gloomy in relationships and love to play bogus mind games. Example: I called my gf asking what she wants from the store. She asks what storeo I reply: Jewel. She sighs and says she doesnt want anything. I reply well what are you going to eat - you haven't eaten all day. She says that's okay. I keep asking her - please tell me what you want if not I can get some food to go from somewhere else that's close by like gyros, pizza, Italian beef, whatever you want baby. She says, well get some milk from the store (what we needed anyway). Well what else? Nothing it's okay. I already know that she wanted me to go some this other grocery store named Marianos and do the shopping there. I explain Marianos is really far and I have to meet with clients at night plus I went to Jewel because my bank was on the way. She says well its okay I'm not that hungry. Eventually I relent, go to Marianos, and then call her back and she starts arguing that I took too long, why'd I have to stop at the bank, why didn't I just go direct to marianos, etc etc.

This isn't just my experience, but also my friends' and even married couples who have been together for 10, 20, 30+ years.

Polish girls are beautiful, tend to be very moral, excellent fashion sense, like to have fun, are well educated, very feminine, very friendly in public, very hospitable, but they loooove to play mind games with their men and often act depressed and passive to get something they want but they'll make you find out what it is instead of just saying it out loud. A lot of women do that but with Polish girls it seems more common and more to an extreme.

@Atch

No dodgy website. My association with PNA and other groups. The German ambassador met with Polish figures regarding this issue. What happened in that meeting I do not know, but I know it occurred. Whether you believe me or not I don't really care... Nonetheless, you'll see this is progressing and we will receive something from Germany whether it's reparations, favorable trade deals, donations, more EU funds, political leverage, etc. The Germans are scared that other EU countries and the US is going to side with Poland on this issue - especially the US and that's gradually in the works.This time our position is strong and as long as the PO sellouts who allowed for Germans to establish a near monopoly in sensitive sectors like media and finance don't win, which it appears by PiS' strength they will not, this will continue till its resolved. In the mean time, we're gathering international support on this issue. This topic is dominating the calendars of polish lobbies at home and abroad, parliament, law firms hired by the government, as well as émigré circles like PNA where Trump visited about a year ago.

@mafketis

The borders were settled by the Allies, not by Germany. The borders were drawn FOR Poland not BY Poland.

there's no way to reopen reparations without reopening the border issue,

Not true - neither side brought it up...

Territorial disputes are a separate political issue. Neither saw brought up redrawing the borders. If we gave up parts of the West to get a trillion dollars or whatever the decision was that benefits Poland and is considered 'fair' as far as reparations for the death and destruction Germany caused, that's fine with me.

News / Polish-German Reconcilliation Seminar [491]

except with the claims that the existing agreements are somehow invalid

They are invalid because they were made by a puppet government and was limited to asking reparations from EAST GERMANY. Not post unification Germany as a whole. The issue was brought up in the 90's again but Poland had a far weaker political and economic position and the EU didn't exist. We will continue to apply pressure on Germany for what they did. They've paid out numerous parties like Greece that suffered way less loss of life and property than Poland and Poles. Once we get the right people involved, Germany will pay. Probably not a trillion but they will make significant payments.

So why should Israel and Jews continue to receive money when Poles suffered roughly the same amount of death and destruction? Again, if we received even 1/2 of what Israel and the Jews received we'd be more than happy with it. We didn't receive any billions of dollars, submarines capable of launching nukes, etc.

Poland on the other hand has signed treaties several times that rule out the possibility of future reparations.

Made during PRL because the USSR masters refused any assistance from the Marshall Plan and wouldn't allow members to sue another comecon/warsaw pact country - namely E Germany

Sure, perhaps Berlin will donate a few millions for some foundation, but nothing that could be viewed as reparations.

They have already been closed door meetings between Berlin and Warsaw. What the Germans say to the reporter's mics and what happens during meetings with Poland and amongst themselves are two different things.

It didn't mention money. It was purely about reconcilliation and cooperation.

Of course, that's what religious leaders do.

Just pointing out a few things Karol Wojtyla said. A lot (not all) of his sentiments mirror that of Poles. We already have had Polish-German reconciliation through cross cultural trade, movement, no more war, etc. Now they can pay for the damage they've caused in two world wars. They just finished paying off WW1. They've made a dent towards WW2 reparations to Greece, Israel, Jews, and so on. It's time they do the same to Poland now. There's a lot of Poles, especially seniors who were themselves impacted by the war or their direct families who support the idea of reparations. With Poland's aging populations, that's a heck of a lot of people. It's not as popular with the youth but younger persons like myself can help change that. In the US the battle is now beginning and Germany already is starting with a very weak position. I'll tell you also that there have already been closed door meetings between Poland and Germany in this respect. A payment of some sorts will be made - I can guarantee you that. While Poland can't exert enough pressure on its own to get Germany to pay, with the help of the US we can.

He also advocated criticism of the pro-homosexual EU

"It is legitimate and necessary to ask oneself if this is not perhaps part of a new ideology of evil, more subtle and hidden, perhaps, intent upon exploiting human rights themselves against man and against the family" oh how wise this man was...

cnn.com/SPECIALS/2005/pope/stories/legacy/index.html

He called for reconciliation because he is a religious figure who promoted peace - he did the same with Iraq, Rwanda, between the solidarity/commie factions in PL, south Africa between whites and blacks, etc.

Wojtyła a true Pole or was he not?

A Pole he was.. and quite a religious figure as well.. an economist, businessman, etc he was not.. But he was quite involved in politics...

He and a Jewish Professor criticized the 'jacobin' EU constitution for lack of reference to Europe's Christian roots.
zenit.org/articles/jewish-professor-defends-mention-of-christianity-in-euro-text/

John Paul II said:

I know that there are many in opposition to integration. I appreciate their concern about maintaining the cultural and religious identity of our nation. However, I must emphasise that Poland has always been an important part of Europe. Europe needs Poland. The Church in Europe needs the Poles' testimony of faith. Poland needs Europe

The Battle of Grunwald is one of the most celebrated events in Polish history. We've been fighting with the Prussians/Germans ever since Poland was a state. Hitler used anti-Polish sentiment and would frequently use German knights battling Poles or write that Germans must avenge Grunwald or talk about some battle in which the Teutonic order won in propaganda. This was done on both sides and continues to today - albeit less so in Germany now.

Poles regard Russia as their primary enemy though. Still they are distrustful of Germans - it's something that's been ingrained in us for a thousand years and unlikely to change anytime soon. It doesn't mean we won't buy German cars and sell them Polish furniture, clothes, etc or buy Russian gas and send them Polish apples. On a societal level though we tend not to cozy up too much.

The general pattern with Germans (and Russians) is to dislike them at the group level mostly for historical reasons but to not have much or any problems at the personal level (certainly no more than they have with each other).

That's what I meant. Yes Poles and Germans may be friends - I'm not saying that doesn't happen. There's Poles and Russians who are friends with each other too. As an ethnic group though, Poles dislike and distrust Germans for historical reasons. This has gone on since the age of Teutonic Knights Furthermore, there's very few Germans actually living in Poland. Most of the contacts that Poles have with Germans are those who travel to Germany to work. I know one Polish lady who worked as like a personal maid/assistant/secretary sort of deal basically charmed the pants off some German neurosurgeon and thanks to that got a new Mercedes E-class, totally remodeled her home, sent her kids to uni, and basically turned her her bank account from nearly broke to stupid high by polish standards.. And to think... an uneducated Polish cleaning lady managed to basically con some educated German neurosurgeon over the course of a few years. The guy basically gave her everything and now she and her family get to live in the lap of luxury. Now she's the biggest pimpess in Oborniki Slaskie

It's not stealing - it's reparations ; ) Maybe if they gave us 1/2 of what they gave Israel and Jews we can call it even

And if you were actually living in Poland you're realize that the PiS government is doing nothing from preventing doubtful students and employees from showing up from South Asia and the middle east.

I spend a significant amount of time in Poland every year. Good for them. The people who sign up for English classes from bogus universities have been coming for a long time. This is nothing new. More and more are coming because they're desperate to escape countries where the average person makes $1-$2 a day. It's not in PiS's interests to stop them from attending these schools. It's more money for the state, the school, more money to pay wages, etc. Plus they're going to buy food, pay for housing, etc so that's money others as well and tax revenue from that. If someone's an idiot and doesn't do their research it's their fault for getting fleeced.

Most of the foreigners who aren't Ukranian that are coming to work in Poland aren't from the middle ease - very very few migrate from those parts. The foreigners who aren't Ukranian and work and reside in Poland tend to be from India, China, Korea, Spain, Italy, Portugal, a few from wealthier EU countries like UK, Ireland, Germany, and the only muslims that come are from Pakistan, a few from Turkey, maybe 20k or so Chechens, etc. All tend to be very assimilated and work hard as it is impossible to survive off welfare in Poland. Unlike Germany, we are not a welfare state that rewards laziness and encourages foreigners to pop out kid after kid and collect checks, get their rent paid for, get their food paid for, etc. As soon as Denmark cut the welfare thousands of Muslims immediately moved to Sweden because they rather work. Then you have clowns like Soros who call for a million migrants to be taken into Europe indefinitely until the pressure subsides and $15k to be given to each migrant for at least 2 years... **** that...

This can really be moved to random chat...

@Atch

The LG factory will open in 2019. JP Morgan is already taking applications for the 2,500-3k jobs in Warsaw. The JP Morgan deal was done between the bank and PiS -

You're absolutely right - its' the bottom dollar that counts. A company will go with whoever offers them the most incentives for opening a factory, office, etc. Companies don't give a crap about all that stuff - unless it impacts their bottom dollar of course which in some cases it absolutely does and they must adjust if they wish to conduct business there. For example, Mobil can't go into Saudi Arabia and send a bunch of female engineers without making them aware of the cultural norms.

Ultimately though, it's up to Poles to decide how they want to leverage their country's economy and business interests. PO was more in favor of selling whatever to whoever, PiS was in favor of promoting partnerships with non-traditional partners while retaining some strategic industries and companies in Polish hands as well as increasing the percentage of Polish capital within Polish banks.

do you think it was a fair appraisal of official Polish-German relations as they appeared to the outside world and apparently to Poland and Germany at that time?

Yes and no. While trade was and remains strong between the two countries, Poles are generally distrustful of Germans and tend not to like them at the personal and societal level. It doesn't mean they won't do business with them. It's like a poll was done in Azerbaijan asking whether they believe Armenians should marry Azeri women. Most (majority) Azeris said no. Another question was should Azeris and Armenians do business together? Most answered yes. It's kind of like that with Germany and Poland. Middle/upper middle class Poles desire to put a Audi, BMW or Mercedes in their driveway but generally Poles don't really like Germans. It's a historical and cultural thing that goes back hundreds of years and has been used in propaganda by both sides for decades if not centuries.

Nonetheless, Poles generally do want good economic relations with Germany and vice versa. A lot of Poles travel to Germany to work - especially from around Wroclaw. It was common for young people in high school and college to go to Germany during the summer to work on farms to help with the harvest. Even now Poles who work in blue collar jobs like construction, welding, plumbing, etc will often go to Germany for like a week or two, work, then come back to Poland for the weekend or a week and spend their money.

Also, all they have to do is remind Poles that PO wanted to take in migrants from the middle east and ruin Poland's perfect record of 0 Islamic terror attacks. That was one of the main reasons (probably the main reason) why PO lost. Along with the recordings of them bashing Poles for not making enough money while munching at a 5 star restaurant courtesy of the poor Polish tax payers.

these deals don't happen overnight

Of course they don't happen overnight - and neither are deals cancelled overnight unless its some extreme circumstance like a war or appropriation by Commies. Usually deals like that they take around 1-2 years to plan before the concrete foundation is even poured. I never said it was the result of PiS. I commented on Maf's statement where he wrote that PiS 'discourage foreign investment and foreign oversight' when that clearly isn't the case.

Its not unsustainable. Social Security is unsustainable. 500 zl a month for poor families can easily be offset by the higher wages hence higher taxes, Ukranians, Indians, etc coming to Poland to work, etc. If need be they can also use their excellent credit rating to sell bonds to raise some quick money.

As far LG and JP morgan, they announced their plans recently.

I highly doubt that PiS will be voted out considering they have double the support of PO - 43% vs 20%

Actually, people were more than happy to have the 500 plus program and to prevent PO's agreement to take in 3rd world migrants which Poles overwhelmingly disagreed with.

That is _exactly_ the impression they're trying to create to discourage foreign investment and foreign oversight.

Actually it's the exact opposite - PiS is encouraging FDI especially from non-traditional partners especially China.

Please explain to me why then so many foreign companies have opened up (or are planning to) offices, factories, etc recently? JP Morgan, Mercedes, LG just to name a few...

No they don't,not in the wholesale fashion that PIS are doing.

They absolutely do - in US, Canada, UK, Germany, Poland, whatever. Politicians all the time campaign on ending some law/policy/etc that the previous generation passed replacing it with a different one.

PiS did make some drastic changes and some new policies. A few I disagreed with but overall I think they're doing a wonderful job. Economic indicators are certainly getting better and better every quarter. Our economy is healthier and more competitive than other EU nations. Look at the unemployment rate for one - in 2013 it was 11% - it's half of that now. Just about every month the unemployment rate is going lower and lower while wages are rising. Not only that, we don't have hordes of people from the 3rd world to take care of like Germany, France, etc do. That was the best thing that PiS did imo - refuse to kowtow to accepting to the EU and take in 3rd worlders which PO agreed to do which the majority of Poles did not want. That was one of the main reasons why they lost. Poland didn't want to take in migrants, PO did, PiS was firmly against it and continues with that policy.

Good for Kukiz. I'm sure his grandparents and other seniors who had family members killed, wives daughters and sisters raped, homes shelled and burned must be so proud of him. I guess he's become too influenced by the 'just stick em in a nursing home' view (or maybe he's getting money, promotion etc from Germany or others to say that). @Ziemowit

No obsession with Jews in fact this is one of thr first times i brought this up in months
Im only pointing out FACTS since you brought up 'early' Gomulka. You can look up Gomulka's own letters to Stalin and see his complaints for yourself against the judeo Bolsheviks who ran Poland and had not a single care for 'Poland and polish workers.' As well as the fact that the UB leadership esp right after WW2 right as the reds were marching in among other key posts were disproportionately occupied by JudeoBolsheviks... Its not a stereotype or racism or whatever you want to call it its fact much like how the Zionist Rothschild basically saved Britain's ass in ww1 by getting us involved via Balfour declaration.

Anyway, this reparation issue will be settled. And I'm proud to say I am assisting Poland's rightful claim in this regard.
