Boring Life after work in Poland (Bydgoszcz)

Im an engineer and working here in Bydgoszcz ,Poland . I finish my work by 16:00 Hrs .
After this i have nothing to look forward and i get bored after reaching my flat and nothing to do.
So,what to do for avoiding to get make life for exciting and busy.

Vin, how does Bydgoszcz compare with where you're from in the UK? Perhaps you expect too much from another culture, for whom night life may mean something slightly different! Would help also if you understood fluent Polish:-)

@ Vin, Polish guys who are into boxing and martial arts can be a bit full on macho. You might be better joining a running club or something like that.

It's a tough question no matter where you are and hard to answer without knowing anything about you. What did you do in your home country after work, that's probably the best place to start, I know it seems simplistic, but there could be an opportunity to do something similar that you haven't come by that someone on here knows about?

Yes Vin, she's right, you might be a bit too much of a poossy for Polish fighters :-) You can try joining salsa or flamenco classes.

In a more serious vein, how good is your Polish? it shouldn't be that hard to find clubs or groups that you might enjoy joining.

Look around older housing estates and you might see something that looks like this



there will probably be notice of different clubs (sometimes excursions) it might be a way to get to meet people and better integrate into the community.

Jestem z Indii . Yeah, im not a native speaker . This is my first job after finishing my engineering studies . Usually i used to hangout with friends to play cricket ,as nobody plays here cricket . I was going for MMA classes but cause of timing issues i dropped out of it after 1month. And watch you mouth and keyboard before typing vulgar or slang words here cause it shows you how you are raised .

Being a keyboard warrior won't give you anything , so stop ******* around and talking **** here and make something good out of your life.
I visit pubs and clubs often but im not much in drinking .

Welcome to Poland. What made you chose Bydgoszcz though? Lemme guess - it work?
There's sooo many better cities including smaller towns with way more to do. If your not into drinking there's other options but I'm afraid drinking and leisure time in Poland are almost inseperable. I don't rly drink either so I feel you but theres a lot of other ways to meet people. I play chess semi professionally and go to clubs and tournaments when I'm in pl. I also hunt fish hike boat **** like that. There's a club and group for everything from hang gliding to ww2 reenactors to mountaineering etc. I'm sure there's some people involved in hobbies you're into and if there's no local group yet then make one.

Take an intensive course on Polish lang. After that you'll know new people and will not be bored any more :-)

Got a job here in an Indian company which are in mould making . So , i have to move here . 2 months were excited when i came here but eventually i got bored . Yeah about that going for clubs like bowling and pool club i visit them often . And yeah im going for Polish lang classes on weekends .

You could also try with some Dom Kultury. There are usually many amateur activities for children and adults (sports, arts, dancing, music playing, etc.) and

good oportunity for you to practice your Polish.

I'm in Bydgoszcz too btw. and I know there are quite a few Indian guys in companies like Nokia, Atos. Maybe you could contact them to ask what they do after work.


It's normal in this season in Poland because of the dull weather and darkness. And it'll be even worse in November and December. But don't worry, new year will bring more light, and more opportunities :-)

I have here Indian friends but they are studying here and from atos i have one friend . I meet them often . Yeah ,weather is dull now because of this season. I dont know but i find people here more depressed . I had gf two weeks before she just broke up over silly reason that she can't meet often . Lol , i was taking her for many dates still i couldnt figure what was the actuall reason .

Perfect storm - start of winter plus splitting up with a girl. Don't worry as I'm sure you will feel more positive in a few weeks.

Strongly suggest you follow up the sports idea, even if it just joining a gym or learning chess like Dirk suggests. and why not take some trips at weekends - Warsaw, Gsansk, Berlin even.

It's a bit weird being an expat here and leaving work at 4pm - lots of companies worktheir expats very hard, but look after them well in terms of housing, schools etc.

Life is precious no matter you are bored or not ;)

Type in Muay Thai Bydgoszcz to Google. There are a few, Legion has high ratings. If you were doing MMA you probably know not to worry about what the people say on here about meeting tough guys. Usually if you are willing to step onto the mat/into the ring with them and show you're not afraid to take a hit, they will respect you back.
